Chapter 169: Chapter 169: The Soul’s Foundation
Lucian examined the finished pill with awe.
"This is a Tier 3 Bloodline Unsealing Pill," Allistar said casually, as if he’d just baked a loaf of bread.
Lucian picked up the pill.
"Take it now," Allistar said. He sat on his stool and sipped his tea. "Meditate while you do. The unsealing process works best when your body is relaxed and your mana is circulating naturally."
Lucian sat cross-legged on the floor. He placed the pill on his tongue and swallowed.
The effect was immediate.
Warmth flooded his body. The pill dissolved in his stomach, and the medicinal energy surged through his meridians like a warm river, reaching every corner of his body.
Allistar watched Lucian meditate. The old man’s closed eyes couldn’t see the internal process, but he could feel it.
He murmured to himself, "It seems his bloodline restricted itself since his body was unable to handle the full power. It only unseals as his power increases. The bloodline is protecting its host." He sipped his tea. "Or whoever sealed it was very thorough."
Lucian opened his eyes.

Allistar set down his cup. "Alright. Now let’s begin your actual lessons."
He stood and walked to the bench, arranging the preparation tools.
"I should mention something first," he said, his back to Lucian. " I am not that good with alchemy though. But I can call myself a Tier 7 alchemist."
Lucian’s mouth fell open.
Tier 7. The alchemy ranking went from Tier 1 to Tier 8. If Allistar was Tier 7, that meant his alchemy skill corresponded to a realm above Sage Realm — the realm that followed Astral Realm. The Sage Realm was the highest realm anyone on Earth had ever reached.
Tier 7 alchemy skill sat at a level that shouldn’t exist on Earth.
"You—" Lucian stammered. "Doesn’t that mean you’re above the Sage Realm? The strongest realm known to Earth?"
Allistar didn’t answer. He simply smiled.
"Let’s move on."
Allistar sat across from Lucian and began the lecture.
"Alchemy rests on one foundation — Spiritual Power."
He held up his hand. A faint, invisible pressure emanated from his palm. Lucian’s Primordial Sight caught it — a shimmering, translucent force that coated Allistar’s fingers like a second skin.
"Spiritual Power is the invisible force that alchemists use to control flame temperature, sense ingredient purity, and guide the fusion process within the cauldron. It is the foundation of all alchemical mastery."
He withdrew his hand.
"Spiritual Power is different from mana. Mana is external energy — gathered from the environment, absorbed through the core, circulated through meridians. It comes from outside and flows within. Spiritual Power is the opposite. It is born from the soul itself. It can only be cultivated through the soul’s growth."
He tapped the bench with his cane.
"An alchemist with powerful Spiritual Power can control flame temperature to within a single degree. Can sense impurities in an herb at a glance. Can guide the fusion of ingredients inside a cauldron with surgical precision — directing each compound to merge exactly where it needs to, when it needs to, in the order it needs to. Without Spiritual Power, alchemy is just cooking with herbs."
Lucian absorbed every word.
"What about this?" He raised his hand and channeled his Mental Power — the energy from his Mind Palace. A dense, invisible force emanated from his palm, similar in nature to what Allistar had just demonstrated. The air between them shimmered with concentrated mental energy.
Allistar’s eyebrows rose.
"What is this?" He leaned forward, his closed eyes narrowing as he felt the energy emanating from Lucian’s palm. "This isn’t Spiritual Power. It’s... mental energy."
"It comes from my mind palace," Lucian said.
"Three abilities," Allistar murmured. "Light. Blood. Mind." He shook his head slowly. "You’re full of surprises, boy."
He examined the Mental Power more closely. His expression shifted from surprise to consideration.
"Your Mental Power is dense. Very dense for your level. And it carries a natural structure — your Mind Palace gives it form and direction that raw Spiritual Power lacks." He paused, thinking. "With your mana cultivation and the quality of this mental power... you could potentially refine a Tier 2 pill if you learn properly. You have the talent for it."
He sat back down.
"However — and this is important — I’m not going to teach you the Soul Path."
Lucian blinked. "Why not?"
"Because you’re already walking two paths — mana cultivation and bloodline evolution. Adding the Soul Path on top of that would split your focus three ways. Your body, your core, your bloodline, your mind, and your soul would all compete for the same resources — time, energy, comprehension. You’d advance on all three paths slowly instead of one path quickly."
He raised a finger.
"Instead of practicing the Soul Path to cultivate Spiritual Power, you will train your Mental Power alongside your Mind Palace and your mana path. Mental Power and Spiritual Power share similar functions — both can be used to control flames, sense purity, and guide fusion. The difference is origin. Spiritual Power comes from the soul. Mental Power comes from the mind. But in application — inside a cauldron — they function nearly identically."
He tapped Lucian’s forehead with his cane. Gently this time.
"Your Mind Palace is your cauldron tool. Your Mental Power is your Spiritual Power substitute. Your mana is your fuel. Learn to use all three simultaneously, and you’ll have everything you need without fracturing your cultivation path."
Lucian nodded slowly.
"Got it."
"Good." Allistar stood. "Then let’s begin."
Days passed. Allistar trained Lucian relentlessly in the mountains.
Mental Power Training was paramount. Every morning began the same way — Lucian sat in the spiritually rich area near the waterfall, where the ambient energy was densest, and meditated. Allistar had provided him with soul-nourishing items — small, luminescent crystals called Spirit Vein Stones that emitted a frequency resonant with mental energy. Lucian held one in each palm and meditated, expanding his Mental Power outward, shaping it, compressing it, releasing it.
The exercises were grueling. Allistar would place objects at varying distances — a leaf, a stone, a drop of water — and have Lucian use Mental Power to sense them without opening his eyes. Not just detect them. Feel their texture. Their weight. Their temperature. Their internal structure.
"An alchemist who can’t sense the difference between a fresh herb and a wilted one at a glance will kill his patients," Allistar said more than once.
Flame Control Practice came next. Allistar commented, with characteristic bluntness, that it would have been better if Lucian had flame powers. "But you don’t. So you’ll use flame tools."
Flame tools were mana-powered devices that generated controlled heat. Lucian spent weeks learning to precisely manipulate the flame output using his mana and Mental Power simultaneously. Too hot and the herbs burned. Too cold and the compounds wouldn’t fuse. The margin for error was razor-thin.
Allistar, by contrast, controlled flame with his bare hands — space, fire, wind, and whatever else he was hiding. The old man could adjust a flame’s temperature by a single degree with a flick of his finger.
The system then commented.
"That man is definitely not from Earth."
Lucian glanced at the floating figure. "I figured."
Allistar added during one flame control session: "If you ever obtain a Heavenly Flame — a flame born from the laws of the universe itself — you could absorb it. Not only would it improve your cultivation, but it would replace your need for flame tools entirely. A Heavenly Flame in the hands of an alchemist is the difference between a candle and a star."
Next was —
Herbology and Theory filled the afternoons. Allistar’s knowledge was encyclopedic. He taught Lucian the properties of hundreds of herbs — their active compounds, their interactions, their precise extraction and fusion temperatures. This wasn’t meditation or practice. This was pure memorization, supplemented by field identification in the mountain range surrounding the clearing, where rare herbs grew wild in the mana-rich soil.
Mana Cultivation occupied the evenings. Alchemy required vast mana — not just to fuel the process but to control the flames for hours at a stretch. Allistar taught Lucian a new cultivation method called the Flame Control Mana Method. Unlike the Blood Eclipse Art, which focused on spell power and blood energy, the Flame Control Method was designed specifically for alchemists. It had a special affinity for absorbing external flame energy — from any fire source, natural or artificial — and converting it into refined mana that was easier to channel through flame tools.
"If you ever encounter an Earth Flame or a Heavenly Flame," Allistar explained, "this method will allow you to absorb it. Not only to improve your cultivation but to improve your alchemy flame control. You could refine pills without tools — using the flame itself as your instrument."
The method circulated mana through a different pathway than the Blood Eclipse Art — a secondary circulation that ran parallel to his primary system. The two methods didn’t conflict. They coexisted, each serving a different purpose.
The month went by.
