A gust of wind swept across the stone courtyard of White Lotus Peak, carrying a shower of dry pine leaves. Before the leaves could touch the ground, they were sliced into fine dust by a sudden burst of sword pressure.

Two blades clashed in the center of the clearing, creating a sharp ring that echoed through the stone courtyard.

Su Ming held his ground, his feet anchored to the stone tiles. His right hand wielded the Dragon Emperor Sword, while his left hand held the Crimson Heaven Sword. The dark steel of the Dragon Emperor Sword hummed with a heavy rhythm, while the Crimson Heaven Sword glowed with a crimson heat. The dual forces surged through his arms, straining his muscles and warming his meridians.

Opposite him, Jian Wushen moved like water. His Autumn Water Sword flickered, executing three rapid strikes from three different angles. The movements were fluid and natural, carrying no hesitation.

Adjusting his stance, Su Ming parried the first two strikes with the Dragon Emperor Sword, space folding slightly around the dark steel. He then swung the Crimson Heaven Sword upward to deflect the third strike, aiming to compress the space around Jian Wushen’s blade.

However, Jian Wushen’s sword will was unfettered. The moment the crimson blade approached, Jian Wushen’s sword shifted slightly, flowing around the compressed space like water. The Autumn Water Sword tapped against the side of the Crimson Heaven Sword, deflecting the heavy strike with effortless ease.

Both men leaped backward, separating by ten paces.

Su Ming exhaled slowly, his chest rising and falling. His palms were warm from the friction of the hilts, and sweat dampened the collar of his white robe. He lowered his blades, letting the tips rest near the stone tiles.

Two months had passed since they had sworn their brotherhood. During this time, the quiet courtyard of White Lotus Peak had become their regular training ground. The stone tiles were now covered in fine scars and shallow grooves, testament to their daily exchanges.

"Your dual-sword style is getting faster, Brother Su," Jian Wushen said, sheathing his sword with a clean click. He wiped his brow with the back of his hand. "But you still struggle to make them work as one. When you use the Dragon Emperor Sword, your movement is heavy. When you use the Crimson Heaven Sword, you try to dominate the ground. They are fighting each other."

Su Ming sighed, sheathing both of his swords. He walked toward the stone bench and sat down.

’He is right,’ Su Ming thought. ’The two sword techniques do not want to mix.’

The Cloud Dragon Sword Technique was about rising dragon will and absolute destruction. The Sky Sovereign Sword Technique was about descending sovereignty, gravity compression, and absolute authority. Trying to execute them simultaneously felt like trying to write two different things with both hands at the same time. The meridians in his arms ached, his Qi churning whenever he tried to merge the two opposing flows.

"They are two sides of the same," Su Ming said, pouring two cups of cool spring water from the clay pot on the table. "But finding the middle ground where they meet is difficult. I can feel it, but the execution remains flawed."

Jian Wushen took the cup, draining it in one gulp. "The Ancestor said the same thing during our last visit. You are trying to force the techniques to fit your will. You must let the sword find its own way."

During the past two months, they had visited the Ancestor in the back-mountain valley four times. Each visit had ended the same way. The Ancestor would watch their spars, crush their techniques with a single wisp of intent, and send them back with cryptic advice.

Yet, the progress was real. Jian Wushen was improving at a speed that bordered on the level of monstrosity. His Boundless Sword Physique allowed him to absorb every lesson instantly, his movement becoming more fluid after every spar. This rapid growth forced Su Ming to use every trick in his arsenal to keep up, which in turn tempered his own sword wills toward the peak.

Jian Wushen set the cup down, his eyes turning thoughtful. "Watch this."

He stepped back into the center of the courtyard. He did not draw his sword. Instead, he raised his index and middle fingers, pointing them toward the sky.

Suddenly, Jian Wushen moved. He leaped forward, his body twisting in a familiar, soaring arc. He executed a series of quick, fluid steps, his fingers tracing a path through the air.

Su Ming watched, his eyes narrowing.

It was the first move of the Cloud Dragon Sword Technique. The footwork, the shoulder rotation, and the path of the hand were completely identical. Jian Wushen’s Boundless Sword Physique had copied the form of the technique perfectly.

However, as Jian Wushen finished the movement, the air remained still. There was no spiritual disruption. There was no roar of the dragon. It was a perfect replication but only a hollow shell that lacked the spirit that made the technique special.

Jian Wushen lowered his hand, laughing dryly. "I can copy the form, but I cannot capture the essence. Without your soul power and the specific meridian paths, it is just an empty dance."

"You copied it in two months," Su Ming said, a trace of envy in his voice. "Most inner disciples would take months to master that form."

"Well, I did it when we first clashed, but It is useless to me," Jian Wushen said, shaking his head. "My path is completely different. If I try to master this, my own sword will lose its freedom. I promise you I would not use it, and I will keep my word. I only wanted to show you what my physique can do."

Su Ming smiled slightly. He knew Jian Wushen’s character. The young prince had a simple, stubborn code. Once he gave his word, he would not break it.

"Where is my martial nephew?" Jian Wushen asked, looking around the quiet peak. "The tournament starts tomorrow. He should be preparing."

"He is in his chamber," Su Ming said. "I will call him."

Wang Tian arrived, bowing deeply first to Su Ming and then to Jian Wushen. "Disciple Wang Tian greets Master, greets Senior Uncle."
