Long-distance relationships are truly difficult these days.
Su Lang was drifting at sea, unable to even write a letter.
After not seeing him for half a year, Lin Zhilan felt just as unfamiliar and at a loss as their daughter did.
Su Lang held their daughter, standing by the flowerbed to show her the flowers and bugs.
As if sensing something, he suddenly turned to look at her.
Lin Zhilan was wearing a light blue dress today. Due to her work and the scorching weather, she had neatly tied her long hair into a bun, revealing her smooth, full forehead and slender, graceful neck.
They say true beauty lies in the bones, not the skin, but Lin Zhilan possessed both. Her beauty seemed to make the very light shining upon her look different, and even the wind seemed to soften as it brushed past her.
Su Lang stared at her with a burning gaze.
"Mommy~" Linlin reached out to her.
Lin Zhilan felt that the evening glow was a bit scorching, making her cheeks burn.
She walked up, not greeting Su Lang, but instead reaching out to hold their daughter.
Linlin shook her head and handed the frangipani flower in her hand to her.
Lin Zhilan was slightly stunned. Frangipanis were abundant and beautiful on the island this month, but she just hadn't expected a man like Su Lang from this era to give flowers.
The corners of Lin Zhilan's lips curled up. She teased, "Is this flower for Mommy, baby?"
"No, no..." Just as Lin Zhilan was about to take it, Linlin pulled it back and stuffed it into Su Lang's hands. "For Daddy."
"It's for Mommy," Su Lang reminded her softly. "Did you forget what Daddy just told you?"
"Mommy, give it to Daddy~"
Lin Zhilan felt a little jealous. As soon as Su Lang returned, their daughter was already playing favorites with him.
"Then give the flower to Daddy, and let Mommy hold you, okay?"
"Daddy hold!" Linlin giggled at Su Lang, looking incredibly adorable.
Helpless, Su Lang couldn't resist pinching her little cheek. Then he looked at Lin Zhilan and said in a deep voice, "I came to pick you up."
"Mhm."
Su Lang wrapped his long arm around Lin Zhilan's waist. The beauty's waist was so slender he could almost encircle it with one hand, and the sensation beneath his palm, even through the fabric of her dress, made his hand tingle.
"Let go, people will see." Lin Zhilan pushed at his hand.
Having lived here for a long time, she seemed to have assimilated somewhat, her temperament becoming more conservative.
Furthermore, Su Lang had been away for too long, and Lin Zhilan was a bit unaccustomed to such intimacy.
Su Lang's eyes instantly darkened, though he quickly masked it with a smile.
He obediently dropped his hand, gesturing for his wife to walk ahead of him.
Lin Zhilan gave a vague murmur of agreement and walked beside him.
Su Lang's gaze drifted. The woman's fair, slender swan neck seemed to scorch his eyes, and the faint fragrance of medicine mixed with her natural scent wafting into his nose made his heartbeat erratic.
Back home, Jiang Chengzhou had already steamed the rice.
Su Lang squeezed into the kitchen, taking the initiative to wash the vegetables and tend the fire.
He had strong opinions about his wife's earlier rejection and evasion. He had originally hoped they could have some time alone to talk, but Linlin had now turned into Daddy's little shadow, following him everywhere.
With Lin Zhilan intentionally avoiding him as well, Su Lang found himself completely helpless against the mother-daughter duo.
Finally, after dinner, Su Lang washed the dishes at lightning speed, took a quick cold shower, and eagerly returned to their upstairs bedroom, only to find it empty.
Both annoyed and amused, he turned around and went downstairs.
Lin Zhilan was in their daughter's room, coaxing her to sleep.
While Su Lang was away, she had been sleeping downstairs with their daughter.
Hearing Su Lang's footsteps, Lin Zhilan closed her eyes and pretended to be asleep.
She wasn't avoiding him on purpose. It was just that after not seeing him for over half a year, he felt somewhat like a stranger, and she needed some time to adjust.
The door opened, and the light from the living room slanted in.
Lin Zhilan lay on her side, facing the child and the wall, her eyelashes trembling slightly.
Su Lang stopped outside the door, not coming any closer.
It was the height of summer, the hottest time on the island.
Lin Zhilan only had a thin blanket draped over her waist and abdomen. Her long limbs were exposed, highlighting her snow-white skin, as pristine as jade.
She looked voluptuous and charming, her curves distinct, her figure strikingly beautiful in its fairness.
Su Lang knew that after such a long time apart, his wife needed time to adapt, but with just one glance, he felt an explosion in his mind.
All his blood rushed to his head.
The longer he stayed silent, the more anxious Lin Zhilan became, her fingers unconsciously gripping the blanket tighter.
After a long time, Su Lang moved.
Lin Zhilan kept her eyes tightly shut.
Then, a burning hot body approached her.
Su Lang placed one hand under her knees and the other around her back, scooping her up into his arms without a word.
Lin Zhilan let out a low gasp, instinctively wrapping her arms around his neck.
The blanket slipped down onto the bed, and the cool night breeze brushed against her skin, sending a shiver through her.
"Su Lang!" she hissed, lowering her voice for fear of waking their daughter.
Su Lang merely gave her a faint look, remaining silent as he turned and carried her straight upstairs.
"The lights aren't off yet," Lin Zhilan quickly said.
"They'll be turned off centrally when it's time."
"We should save electricity." Lin Zhilan clung to his arm, hoping to delay things as much as possible.
Su Lang chuckled softly, his chest vibrating, as if he had seen right through her little scheme.
He didn't put her down. Instead, he carried her over to the light switch pull cord.
"Pull it."
"..."
Lin Zhilan's long eyelashes fluttered as she reached out her hand.
The moment the lights went out, the man's kiss fell upon her.
Any feelings of unfamiliarity or restraint completely vanished in Su Lang's presence.
All of Lin Zhilan's reserve was sealed away by his thirsty, fierce kiss.
Their lips and tongues intertwined as he aggressively conquered her senses, instantly stealing her breath and thoughts, effortlessly dismantling her defenses of unfamiliarity.
Her body reacted before her mind could, her arms involuntarily wrapping around his neck, her fingertips digging into his short, coarse hair.
Feeling her response, Su Lang's kiss gradually softened, becoming deep and lingering.
During a brief pause, he rested his forehead against hers, breathing heavily, his gaze staring deeply into her eyes.
"Avoiding me?" Su Lang's voice was hoarse.
Lin Zhilan's heart pounded like a drum. She looked away, "No..."
"Heh."
Su Lang carried her upstairs, kicked open the bedroom door, walked straight to the bed, and gently laid her down.
He leaned over, resting his hands on either side of her, trapping her in the small space beneath him.
"Prove it to me."
"What?" Lin Zhilan looked up at him.
Su Lang's body temperature was so high that her face flushed from the heat radiating off him. She could feel his hot breath washing over her.
"Didn't you say you weren't avoiding me? Prove it."
Su Lang was restraining himself so much that his voice cracked. His ears were completely red. Looking at the woman beneath him, the one he had yearned for day and night, he couldn't tear his eyes away, his Adam's apple bobbing up and down continuously.
He pressed closer and closer, his face almost buried in the crook of her neck.
Lin Zhilan shrank her shoulders slightly, preventing him from getting closer to that spot.
"You just got off the ship. I just think you need to rest."
Staying on a ship for too long could cause land sickness.
Even after returning to land, one would still feel the ground swaying and rocking, just like being on the ship.
Su Lang clearly didn't have it.
