“Give it to me. Hurry, give it to me!” Ji Shuiyao’s voice trembled as her eyes burned with fervent intensity. If it were just ordinary fish blood, it would be practically useless for research. But if it was Megalodon blood? That changes everything.
The Megalodon was universally recognized as an extinct species. Everything humanity knew about it came from scattered fossil remains. But now, right in front of her, was a sample of its actual blood.
This wasn’t just rare—it was one-of-a-kind, a specimen that simply couldn’t be measured in money.
“How did you even get this?” she asked, almost in disbelief.
When she first heard Wang Haoran say he collected blood from a marine creature, she didn’t even consider the Megalodon. That apex predator was too terrifying. Even approaching it in a submarine was a risk—not to mention extracting blood directly from it.
“Just grabbed it on the way when I was saving you. It swam past me, so I figured why not,” Wang Haoran replied offhandedly, like he’d just plucked a flower from a garden.
“Can we have this Megalodon blood sample? I’ll apply for research funding from the institute and make sure you’re well compensated.” Ji Shuiyao’s voice was urgent, barely hiding her excitement.
“Take it.” Wang Haoran didn’t even hesitate.
He had no use for the thing, anyway. The only reason he’d gone out of his way to collect it was to win Ji Shuiyao’s favor. Seeing how eager she was, he handed over the collection tube without the slightest resistance.

With the system prompts rolling in, Wang Haoran instinctively checked the cooldown on his Charm Halo. It was currently off cooldown and ready to use. But the moment he tried to activate it, the system sent back a failure message.
He didn’t even need to ask why—it was the same as with Qiu Qianwei. Unless he could achieve results in the scientific field that matched or even surpassed Ji Shuiyao’s, she simply wouldn’t fall for him.
Cold logic, but that’s how this world worked. Fortunately, with enough Villain Points, doing just that wasn’t beyond reach. And now, his total was up to 11,000. More than enough.
The research vessel would still take several days to make the return trip. When they were about halfway back to Qingling’s waters, Wang Haoran received a message from Qiu Qianwei.
“One week’s up,” she wrote playfully.
If she hadn’t reminded him, he might’ve forgotten.
“Aren’t you still sharing a cabin with your sixth sister?” he asked.
“She’s always discussing research stuff with her colleagues late into the night. She usually doesn’t get back until after midnight.”
Seeing that, Wang Haoran glanced at the clock—it was only 9 PM.
Plenty of time.
He left his cabin and made his way to hers, ready to pay her a visit. But just before he reached the door, he noticed Lin Chen standing there, laptop in hand, talking with Qiu Qianwei about something. About eight minutes later, Lin Chen walked off, grinning to himself as he found a quiet corner, opened his laptop, and began furiously typing away.
“What did your brother want?” Wang Haoran stepped into the cabin and casually asked.
“He’s underage, so he borrowed my ID to log onto a site called Global Discovery. He wants to submit an article,” Qiu Qianwei replied without hesitation.
“Global Discovery? What kind of site is that?”
“Global Discovery is one of the most prestigious science sites in the world. My sixth sister actually managed to get one of her papers featured on the front page.”
“Managed to?” Wang Haoran arched a brow. “That sounds like more than luck. If she pulled that off, she’s not just talented—she’s exceptional.”
“You don’t understand,” Qiu Qianwei said, shaking her head. “That front page is usually reserved for old-school scholars in their fifties or sixties. My sixth sister is only twenty-one. For someone her age to get featured… it was basically a miracle.”
Wang Haoran was genuinely surprised now. A twenty-one-year-old publishing a headline article on one of the world’s most respected science platforms—that really was impressive.
But if that genius brat Lin Chen managed to get his article published, let alone on the front page, wouldn’t it shock the entire globe? That’d be a level of showboating that transcended borders!
As those thoughts ran wild in his mind, Qiu Qianwei stood up and asked with a coy smile, “Do I look pretty today?”
She’d gone out of her way to doll herself up just to hear his praise.
“Yeah. Pretty,” Wang Haoran muttered without even looking at her.
“You’re so perfunctory. You didn’t even look at me,” she pouted, visibly unhappy.
Wang Haoran finally turned toward her—but not to admire her. His expression was all business. “Is there a laptop around?”
That unexpected question left Qiu Qianwei momentarily stunned.
“My sixth sister’s,” she replied after a beat.
“Bring it over. Hurry.”
So… the laptop is more attractive than I am?
Qiu Qianwei felt a pang of frustration, but still went to fetch Ji Shuiyao’s laptop. Wang Haoran took it, powered it on, and immediately started typing away like a man possessed.
“What are you even doing?” she asked, trying to sneak a peek.
“Play with your phone. Don’t bother me,” he said without even glancing her way.
【Ding, Host made Qiu Qianwei jealous. Gained 200 Villain Points!】
Wang Haoran blinked at the notification, then went right back to typing, ignoring her completely.
Qiu Qianwei stared blankly at him, feeling oddly defeated. Did he really come here… just to play on a laptop? I’m not even as important as a laptop now?
The realization hit hard, but she refused to give up. She pulled out her phone, turned on a soft piano piece, and began dancing gracefully to the rhythm. Her dance skills weren’t as refined as her music, but they were definitely close to professional level.
Each movement flowed with elegance and grace. If anyone were watching, they’d be mesmerized.
Too bad the current audience was glued to a screen.
【Ding, Host made Qiu Qianwei jealous. Gained 300 Villain Points!】
Maybe it’s too graceful? Maybe he prefers something spicier.
She switched to a new track and began dancing again—this time with more bounce, more sway.
Still no reaction.
【Ding, Host made Qiu Qianwei jealous. Gained 400 Villain Points!】
Am I not feminine enough?
That cruel question echoed in her mind. She paused mid-dance, frozen in place, then suddenly had an idea. She opened up Douyin, the short-video app. It was overflowing with girls—twisting, bouncing, suggestive to the extreme. She watched a few clips, her brows furrowing.
This isn’t dancing. It’s trash. There’s no art, no elegance.
But the likes were through the roof.
Well, popularity doesn’t lie. If people like it, there has to be a reason.
Maybe… I should learn one of these?
And with that wild thought, Qiu Qianwei hesitated for only a second before diving in.
