“My sister has a terrible temper,” Wang Haoran said with a troubled look. “It’s not really convenient for me to plead with her for you, and I don’t even have a proper reason.”
“That’s easy,” Qin Fan replied. “Just say it’s human nature—lots of guys have done that kind of thing. You’ve got a girl you like, right? Don’t tell me you’ve never thought about her and done something like that?”
“I do have a girl I like, but I’ve never done that,” Wang Haoran said solemnly. “And doing that kind of thing in secret—doesn’t that count as disrespecting the girl you like? If I truly like her, I should be doing everything I can to treat her well and respect her.”
Qin Fan froze, genuinely stunned. He had been hoping Wang Haoran would empathize, understand him, and help smooth things over with Tantai Yaoyue, but Wang Haoran’s attitude was the exact opposite. Worse, Qin Fan couldn’t even argue against what he said.
“Haoran, I really couldn’t tell,” Qin Fan said as he studied him again. “You’re actually the devoted type.”
What the hell is that supposed to mean—do I look like some kind of scumbag? Wang Haoran cursed inwardly, but he put on a shy, boyish expression. “I-I guess.”
“Which girl do you like?” Qin Fan asked.
Sorry, there are too many to count. Wang Haoran only sighed and said, “A long time ago, I had a crush on a girl, but after graduation, we went our separate ways. We haven’t been in contact for ages, and now I just want to focus on studying and not think about that stuff.” As he spoke, a faint melancholy surfaced on his face.
Qin Fan felt like this future brother-in-law had suffered heartbreak, so he hurried to comfort him. “There are plenty of fish in the sea. Let the past stay in the past—someday you’ll definitely meet someone better.”
“I’m skilled in physiognomy,” Qin Fan offered, suddenly extra enthusiastic since he needed a favor. “How about I read your fortune and see how your love life looks?”
“No, no, that’s okay,” Wang Haoran refused at once, afraid Qin Fan might calculate something he wasn’t supposed to.
“Don’t be shy. I’m not charging you,” Qin Fan said, refusing to take no for an answer as he immediately began counting on his fingers and reading Wang Haoran’s fate.
Wang Haoran’s nerves tightened slightly, but he couldn’t stop him, so he could only wait in silence. After a while, Qin Fan lowered his hand and stared at him in shock.
“What is it?” Wang Haoran’s heart skipped as he asked.
“Haoran,” Qin Fan said with a mix of envy and resentment, “you’re fated to be surrounded by peach blossoms.”
“Huh? Th-that’s not a good thing, is it?” Wang Haoran replied with an exaggeratedly worried face. “Women are the biggest headache.”
Qin Fan was speechless. Being “fated with peach blossoms” was a heavenly blessing, and you’re acting like you want to throw it away? Too bad it wasn’t something you could hand over to someone else.
“When the peach blossoms come, you can’t block them,” Qin Fan advised. “Don’t avoid it just because you got hurt before, and you’re at the age where you should be dating anyway. Don’t you ever want girls?”
“A little,” Wang Haoran admitted with a shy smile.
If he claimed he didn’t, who would believe him? It was better to admit a bit, or Qin Fan might start suspecting him.
“That’s completely normal—don’t feel embarrassed,” Qin Fan said in an older-brother tone, then added, “My reading shows your peach blossoms are about to arrive. You’ll run into a beauty very soon.”
“Where will I meet her? Is she pretty?” Wang Haoran asked immediately.
In reality, he was testing how much Qin Fan could truly calculate, so he’d know what he was dealing with later. Qin Fan thought for a moment and said, “The sign only gives one word—‘water.’ It’s probably somewhere like a riverside, so if you go to a riverbank soon, pay attention.”
“As for whether she’s pretty,” Qin Fan continued, “you’ll have to see for yourself.”
“Can’t you read it more clearly?” Wang Haoran pressed. “If I know beforehand, I can be prepared.”
“I’m human, not an immortal,” Qin Fan said with a laugh. “I can’t read it that precisely, but the fact your peach blossoms are close is beyond doubt.”
Hearing that, Wang Haoran finally got a rough sense of Qin Fan’s limits. Qin Fan then shifted his tone and began hinting, “Haoran, reading fortunes comes with risks, you know. It’s like leaking heavenly secrets, and if it goes wrong, I could suffer karmic backlash.”
He paused meaningfully, clearly implying the rest. Wang Haoran understood and nodded as if sincere. “I’ll do my best to explain things to my sister, but I can’t guarantee she’ll forgive you.”
“Then I’ll be counting on you,” Qin Fan said, satisfied.
Qin Fan never believed Wang Haoran could actually sway Tantai Yaoyue’s decisions, but he only needed Wang Haoran to speak up for him. Now that he’d gotten what he wanted, he was content to wait for news.
By evening, after class, Wang Haoran returned to the villa and immediately tossed the whole “pleading for Qin Fan” matter to the back of his mind. The first thing he did was look for a delivery, because he ordered a whole box of protection online and had it shipped to this villa.
That afternoon, the tracking had shown it was signed for. He can only hope nobody opened it and saw what was inside.
“Which one of you signed for my package?” he asked in the living room, where Feng Xuansu, Ning Aoxue, and Feng Anna were all present.
Ning Aoxue and Feng Anna both shook their heads. Wang Haoran looked at Feng Xuansu.
After a brief silence, Feng Xuansu gave him a strange look and said, “I put it in your bedroom.”
Wang Haoran nodded and went straight to check. He found the package, but his scalp went a little numb the moment he saw it—someone had already opened it, and one of the packs inside had been torn open too, with one item missing.
No wonder Feng Xuansu was acting weird. She opened his delivery.
If it had just been a single box, it wouldn’t have mattered much, but he bought an entire case. Feeling awkward, Wang Haoran hid in the bedroom for a while until he heard Feng Anna calling him to eat, and only then did he reluctantly go back out.
The four of them sat around the dining table and began eating. Throughout the meal, Feng Xuansu kept staring at him with that strange, unreadable look.
Wang Haoran kept his head down and pretended not to notice, then returned to his room right after he finished. He hadn’t been inside long when Feng Xuansu knocked and walked in.
“I only wanted to help you tidy your things,” she said apologetically, her tone carrying both guilt and a faint sourness. “I didn’t mean to open your package.”
“It’s fine,” Wang Haoran said, shaking his head.
Then she gathered her courage and asked, “Th-that… is it something you use?”
If I say it’s not for me and I bought it to inflate balloons, would you believe me? Wang Haoran mocked inwardly, then simply nodded. “Yeah.”
She already knew about Qiu Qianwei anyway, so there was no point denying it. Feng Xuansu’s pretty face showed a hint of panic as she muttered, half to herself, “Th-then… it won’t kill me someday, right? I really don’t know how Qiu Qianwei managed to endure it.”
Her voice was small, but Wang Haoran heard it clearly. Only then did he realize her focus was completely different from his.
That made sense too—if she opened it, she might’ve even examined it, maybe looked things up online, and figured out it was the biggest size. It was obvious she’d been scared by what she saw, and Wang Haoran understood what she was really worried about, yet he didn’t know how to respond.
After a long silence, Feng Xuansu finally broke it, her eyes soft and watery, carrying a pleading tone. “If I remember right, you’re off tomorrow. C-can you accompany me… to go out for a walk?” Her voice was gentle and teasing in a way that tugged at the heart.
“Sure,” Wang Haoran blurted out, his mind heating up as he agreed. “Where do you want to go?”
“Muwang Pavilion,” Feng Xuansu said. “They say it’s Qingling’s most famous scenic spot.”
Muwang Pavilion?
Wang Haoran’s heart stirred. Muwang Pavilion was right by the Qingling River, and Qin Fan said his peach blossoms were approaching—that he’ll meet a beauty by the water. Was it finally about to happen?
