Stepping away from the chatter of the bow deck, Shaurya leaned against the rear carved railing where the roar of the high-altitude wind drowned out most of his surroundings. With a slight tilt of his chin, he summoned the golden interface back into his line of sight.
The translucent window shimmered softly, expanding as the full tally of his recent achievements materialized line by line.
[System Rewards Finalized:]
- 500 Dharma Points
- 1x Divine Spin Wheel Ticket]
Shaurya’s gaze lingered on the third entry. His brows shot up, a quiet laugh escaping his throat as his eyes sparkled with genuine excitement.
"A Divine Spin?" he whispered under his breath, shaking his head with a wide grin. "It’s been so long since the last one, I was starting to think you retired the wheel entirely."
The golden text on the interface flickered, the letters rearranging themselves into a bold, indignant font:
[Retire? Host, please! This was not even part of your primary mission rewards. This Divine Spin Ticket is an extra milestone bonus, granted solely because you executed a scheme of that caliber with absolute perfection. It is purely your own absurd luck that unlocked it today. You should be thanking Lord Narayan, not questioning the System!]
A quiet chuckle escaped Shaurya’s lips as he shook his head, brushing his thumb across the glowing screen. With a quick flick of his fingers, the shimmering golden text fractured into a shower of harmless light particles, dissolving completely into the high-altitude wind.
A quiet chuckle escaped Shaurya’s lips as he shook his head, brushing his thumb across the screen. With a quick flick of his fingers, the shimmering golden text fractured into a shower of harmless light particles, dissolving completely into the high-altitude wind as a deep, warm sense of satisfaction settled into his chest.
Making his way back toward the front of the vessel, Shaurya took his place at the bow just as the thick blanket of clouds parted beneath the war fortress.
Far below, the massive, winding stone walls and sprawling tiled roofs of Azure Dragon Capital City swept past like a detailed map.
The grand metropolis buzzed with life, its central thoroughfares packed with tiny, ant-like crowds and bustling merchant avenues, completely unaware of the political storms brewing beyond their borders.
Lu Fang jogged up to the front deck, gripping the polished wooden railing as his eyes widened with excitement. "We’ve made it back to the capital territory!"
Behind him, Lee Bie and Cheng Fang were slumped comfortably against a pair of iron-bound storage crates, completely drained. Lee Bie had his head tossed back against the wood, eyes half-closed, while Cheng Fang let his arms dangle over his knees, letting out a long, exhausted sigh.
"Don’t wake me up until we hit the ground," Lee Bie muttered, his voice muffled by the collar of his uniform.
A soft yawning sound echoed from the companionway leading down to the lower cabins. Auntie Muo stepped out onto the open deck, her arms stretched wide overhead as she let out a long, lazy stretch. Her shoulders loosened, and she patted her cheeks to wake herself up from a short nap.
Elder Hua, standing near the vessel’s central helm array, turned her head and offered a warm, teasing smile. "Look at that. Here comes the true hero of our mission."
A bright flush of red instantly climbed up Auntie Muo’s neck, reaching the tips of her ears. She quickly lowered her hands, waving them frantically in front of her face with a flustered expression. "Stop that! Please... it was a complete team victory. Everyone worked hard!"
Shaurya leaned back against the bow railing, his arms crossed over his chest as he chuckled softly. "You shouldn’t downplay it, Auntie Muo. Accept the praise. You handled your part brilliantly out there."
"He’s right, you know," Cheng Fang called out from his crate, raising a single weary hand in approval.
"Absolutely," Lee Bie added without opening his eyes. "If you hadn’t mixed the poison and killed the army easily, the rest of us would still be sweating in those miserable disguises."
Lu Fang nodded enthusiastically from the edge of the deck, flashing her a bright grin of agreement. Auntie Muo cleared her throat, ducking her head with a shy, grateful smile as she smoothed down the front of her robes.
The Dark Pearl veered gracefully past the northern mountain passes surrounding Azure Dragon Capital City, its hull gliding through the high-altitude winds into the familiar, jagged peaks of the Sanatan Mountain Range. High above the tree line, the heavy mountain air pressed against the ship’s array—crisp, biting, and thick with dense spiritual energy that swept over the deck in cool, refreshing gusts.
Shaurya expanded his chest, pulling a deep breath of the mountain air into his lungs. The sharp scent of wild pine and high-altitude mist washed away the dry grit of the lower battlefields. He slowly let the breath trail out in a pale vapor stream against the wind.
"Home sweet home," he murmured softly.
Ahead, the stubborn veil of fog blanketing the higher ridges dissolved under the ship’s golden domain. The grand territory of the Sanatan Flame Sect materialized through the parting mist. Down below, arrays carved into the cliffside hummed in subtle resonance as the war fortress approached, their faint glow reflecting off the polished decks.
Down on the main training grounds, hundreds of disciples moved in unison, their iron training swords cutting through the air with a rhythmic whoosh-whoosh that resonated off the stone walls. Suddenly, a massive shadow crept across the flags, blotting out the afternoon sun. The rhythmic swings faltered. One by one, blades lowered, metal clinking against stone, as heads tilted upward into the gale kicking down from above.
The grand, dark-hulled silhouette of the Dark Pearl emerged through the clouds. As the sect’s crest glinted along its bow, wide grins broke out across the crowd below.
The quiet training fields erupted into a roar of enthusiastic shouts and clashing scabbards, the cheers echoing through the surrounding mountain valleys.
The Dark Pearl glided to a halt fifty feet above the central plaza. Its heavy propulsion arrays hummed with a low, bone-rattling vibration, blowing back dust and rustling the robes of the crowd.
At the deck’s edge, Shaurya and his group stepped onto the railing. They didn’t wait for the wooden gangways or boarding ropes.
In a single fluid motion, they plunged off the edge.
They plummeted through fifty feet of open air, winds whipping violently at their sleeves. A split second before impact, spiritual energy flared beneath their boots.
BOOM!
They slammed into the flagstones together in a synchronized superhero landing. Each of them impacted on one bent knee, driving a single white-knuckled fist flat into the stone.
The sheer kinetic shockwave blew outward in a clean, fifty-foot ring, scattering the loose dust and sending a crisp ripple of spiritual force washing over the feet of the surrounding disciples.
Slowly, Shaurya uncoiled from his crouch, rising to his full height as his heavy black-and-gold coat settled back against his shoulders.
Before the dust could fully settle, several figures pushed through the gathering crowd of disciples.
Muo Qian darted forward first, her eyes bright as she threw her arms around Auntie Muo’s waist. "Mother! You’re back!"
Auntie Muo stumbled back half a step from the momentum, her flustered expression instantly melting into warmth as she wrapped her arms tightly around her daughter, kissing the top of her head.
At the same time, Xu Ren sprinted past the crowd and launched herself into the air, flopping directly into the arms of an unprepared Cheng Fang. The sudden weight knocked the breath out of Cheng Fang, causing him to stagger backward with a loud groan while trying to keep his footing.
Nearby, Jun Hua stepped forward from the ring of onlookers, her eyes fixed entirely on Lu Fang. Lu Fang met her gaze, stepping forward to close the distance between them. Without a word, he pulled her in by the waist, dipping his head as their lips met in a deep, passionate kiss that drew a collective round of whistles and cheers from the surrounding disciples.
When they finally separated, Jun Hua’s cheeks carried a soft flush, but her expression remained calm and steady as she looked into his eyes. "Welcome back," she murmured softly.
Lu Fang flashed her a playful wink. "Told you I’d be back soon."
Standing near the center of the plaza, Shaurya’s eyes wandered over the crowd of smiling faces, scanning the gathered disciples and elders. After a moment, his gaze shifted toward the side pathways, a subtle look of search lingering in his eyes.
Elder Liya stepped up beside him, folding her arms across her chest as a knowing, mischievous smile curved her lips. "Looking for Lin Shu?"
Shaurya didn’t bother hiding it. He nodded candidly, looking back at Liya. "Where is she? I thought she’d be here with the others."
"The second she received the message that you are returning, she hurried off," Elder Liya chuckled, gesturing vaguely toward the inner mountain paths.
"She wanted to prepare a proper welcome for you, but it seems she’s taking a little more time than she planned."
"I see," Shaurya said, a bright spark of eagerness lighting up his expression. He turned back toward the main group, raising his voice slightly so everyone could hear. "Alright, everyone rest up today. You’ve earned a break!"
Without waiting for a response, Shaurya tapped his heel against the stone and shot into the sky like a streak of golden light. He cut through the upper courtyard breezes, soaring over the inner gates and heading directly toward the private Sect Courtyard perched on the higher eastern ridge.
He descended smoothly onto the pristine stone pathway of the beautiful yard.
The air here was quiet, far removed from the noisy celebrations of the main plaza. A gentle breeze swept through the courtyard, carrying the delicate, sweet fragrance of blooming flora. Pale pink cherry blossom petals drifted lazily through the atmosphere, swirling in soft circles before settling on the quiet stone paths.
Shaurya’s boots touched the ground without making a sound. Looking toward the far end of the yard, a soft, affectionate smile spread across his face.
"There you are," he said softly.
Standing at the base of a massive, beautiful cherry blossom tree whose gnarled branches stretched wide over the courtyard, a slender figure stood waiting, her hair catching the soft light of the afternoon sun.
