Chapter 61: Chapter 61

Lysander’s pov

After familiarizing myself in the house, I was becoming bored. I was marveled at the size and the amazing decorations.

Also a little voice at the back of my head wondered how he was able to manage this kind of wealth.

I could stay here forever. I paused on that thought when I realized I needed to change Drake’s mind on how he treated me. Maybe we could go back to the way we were before.

I buried myself in his sheets, yes I snuck into his room. His scent surrounded me and tucked me into this safe cocoon.

By seven in the evening, I decided to cook him dinner to start our new relationship.

I stood in front of the massive stainless-steel stove, a wooden spoon in my hand, staring down at the skillet.

After spending twelve endless hours pacing the silent rooms, watching the city skyline bleed from gray rain into neon dusk, the quiet had started to eat me alive.

I kept thinking about how my life changed overnight. The same man I thank God for, everyday turned out to be my worst nightmare alongside his son.

I was almost loosing my mind, I had no idea how I was going to tell my mom. It would kill her to find out she married yet another terrible man.

I shook my head and banished the thought, I couldn’t dwell on that. I would cross that bridge when I get to it.

Hopefully, Drake likes my little surprise.

I was wearing one of his crisp, white button-down shirts. The sleeves were rolled up twice past my elbows, and the hem fell past my thighs, drowning my lean frame.

It was the only thing I’d found in the wardrobe that felt soft against my sensitive skin, smelling sharply of his distinct, intoxicating scent of. Beneath it, I wore nothing but a pair of dark cotton briefs, my bare feet resting flat against the heated stone floor.

Cooking was a small, fragile anchor. It was the only way I knew how to say thank you to a man who had pulled me out of the storm, even if the cage he put me in was forged from pure obsidian.

A sudden, sharp drop in the ambient temperature made the fine hairs on my arms stand straight up.

I didn’t hear a single footstep; I never did. He moved like a ghost, a predator whose movements were entirely silent until he wanted to be known. The air around the stove grew instantly frigid, heavy with an ancient, suffocating pressure that made my breath bloom in a faint white mist over the bubbling sauce.

My breath quickened and my chest fell and rose heavily from his presence, that was how much he affected me.

Before I could turn around, two long, pale arms slid around my waist from behind.

Drake pulled my back flush against the solid, ice-cold line of his chest. The contrast between the intense heat radiating from the copper skillet and the arctic chill of his body sent a violent, shuddering breath straight out of my lungs. He buried his face in the crook of my neck, his cold lips brushing directly over the tender spot on my neck.

I gasped, my fingers reflexively gripping his forearms where they locked tightly around my middle. My heart thrummed like a trapped bird against my ribs.

"What are you doing, Lysander?" He murmured softly. His low, resonant voice vibrated directly against my collarbone, sending a strange, intoxicating warmth pulsing straight through my veins.

My cock twitched a little and I bit my lip, closing my eyes and surrounding to his seduction.

"I... I just wanted to cook for you," I rasped out, my voice rough and small. My cheeks flushed a deep, burning red as I kept my eyes fixed on the red sauce in the pan, unable to look back at him. My hands trembled against his sleeves. "You’ve... done so much for me. Given me a place to hide. I wanted to make myself useful."

A quiet, dark chuckle echoed against my back, the sound deep and terrifyingly pleasant. Drake’s hand slid slowly up my waist, his long, pale fingers spreading wide over my ribcage, holding me pinned against his frame with effortless, absolute possession.

"You do not need to make yourself useful, little bird," he purred into my skin, his tongue tracing the smooth curve of my neck right over the puncture marks. "You are already fulfilling your purpose simply by remaining here. In my space. Under my protection. But... the gesture is accepted."

I let out a long, trembling breath and leaned slightly back into his cold frame, letting my eyes flutter shut.

For one fleeting, fragile second, the heavy weight in my chest lifted. The luxury of the penthouse, the warmth of the stove, and the absolute weight of his arms around me created a strange, dangerous illusion of safety. I was owned, but I was hidden. I was his pet, but the monsters outside couldn’t reach me.

His grip on my waist tightened with a sudden, subtle tension that instantly shattered the quiet warmth in the room. The air grew perceptibly colder, the shadows in the corners of the kitchen stretching long and sharp against the marble island.

"It is a pity," Drake added, his voice dropping into a cool, measured register that sent a fresh wave of dread through my stomach. "That your dinner will have to wait. We are expecting a visitor."

My eyebrows pulled together, an immediate, sharp frown cutting deep across my face. The fragile comfort vanished in an instant. I turned carefully within the circle of his arms, looking up into his dark, unreadable obsidian eyes, my pulse spiking into a frantic rhythm.

"A visitor?" I asked, my voice tightening with sudden panic. "Who? Drake, nobody knows I’m here. Did Darius track my phone? Is it Gideon?"

The thought of Gideon standing outside this door, of him seeing me in Drake’s shirt, under Drake’s mark, made my throat seize up entirely. My fingers dug desperately into the fabric of his suit jacket.

I had no idea what that sadistic bastard would do to me.

Drake looked down at me, a faint, predatory smile touching the corner of his thin lips. It was a look of complete, terrifying composure, the look of an apex predator watching an unsuspecting trap spring shut. He opened his mouth to respond.

Chime.

The sharp, loud chime of the penthouse doorbell echoed through the silent apartment, cutting through the heavy air like a physical blade.

I froze, my breath catching in my chest, my eyes wide as I stared at the dark hallway leading to the front door.
