The eighth day since he had begun his training dawned differently. An unusual calm hung over the Dmond Mansion, as if the house itself were aware that this would be a day of pause, recovery, and silence.
For the first time in a week, Lukas did not wake with the anxiety to immediately put on his training clothes and run to the clearing. There was no automatic urge to jump out of bed, tighten the laces of his boots, and rush downstairs in hurried steps.
The first rays of sunlight slowly streamed through the window, spreading a peaceful golden glow across the room. Dust particles danced in the air, illuminated by the serene morning, like tiny stars floating in a sea of light.
Lukas slowly opened his eyes, his consciousness rising from deep sleep in gentle waves. His body still carried a faint trace of fatigue from the intense week, a distant echo of the exhaustion he had felt during the first few days.
But the muscle soreness that had accompanied him throughout those early training sessions had practically disappeared. Only a pleasant sense of weight remained in his arms and legs, not pain, but the presence of muscles that had worked, that had been challenged, that had grown.
He sat up on the bed and stretched his arms above his head, feeling every fiber lengthen. His muscles responded immediately, without stiffness or discomfort.
Lighter. Firmer. Stronger.
A small smile appeared on his face, one of quiet satisfaction.
"Resting feels good too..."
His eyes wandered around the room, taking in the familiar surroundings. Sunlight poured through the window, bathing the room in golden hues and casting dancing shadows across the walls.
Tilbo was already awake in the corner of the room, her enormous black form motionless like a statue. Only her antennae moved slowly as soon as they noticed Lukas had awakened, a silent sign of recognition.
Astra rested atop the wardrobe, her white feathers shining beneath the morning light. She lazily stretched her wings, extending each feather before letting out a sleepy chirp, as if greeting the new day.
Prata remained near the ceiling, calmly weaving a delicate web between two wooden beams. Her eight legs moved with surgical precision, placing each strand with meticulous care.
Lukas smiled at the three of them, his heart warmed by the presence of his companions.
"Today is my day off."
Tilbo moved her antennae, as if she understood perfectly.
Astra answered with another chirp, her bright eyes fixed on the boy.
Prata simply continued working in silence, but her legs moved a little more slowly, as though she too were relaxing.
"Then let’s all go to the forest." Lukas said as he stood up, his feet touching the cool wooden floor.
"We’ll spend the whole day there."
...
After washing his face and changing clothes, he went downstairs for breakfast. The smell of freshly baked bread filled the entire mansion, mingling with the aroma of coffee, eggs, and fresh fruit. The kitchen was alive with the sounds of pots and pans and the murmur of conversation.
Aurora was already setting the table, her movements precise and efficient, while Judite finished spreading jam on a slice of bread, her tongue sticking out between her lips in concentration.
Clavor calmly sipped a cup of coffee, his eyes scanning a small book opened on the table.
"Good morning." Lukas greeted cheerfully.
"Good morning." The three of them replied almost at the same time, each in their own tone.
Aurora smiled as she looked at her son, her eyes filled with motherly affection.
"You don’t have to rush off to train today."
"It feels strange." Lukas admitted with a laugh as he sat down.
"I think I’ve forgotten how to rest."
Clavor chuckled softly, closing the book.
"That means you’re taking your training seriously. But rest is part of the process too."
During breakfast, Aurora insisted that he eat plenty, generously filling his plate.
"Your body spent the entire week growing. Today it needs to recover everything it used."
She placed more scrambled eggs, fresh fruit, and slices of bread onto his plate, as though she feared he might collapse from hunger at any moment.
Lukas obeyed without complaint, knowing his mother was right. His body had been pushed to its limits throughout the week, and now it needed fuel to rebuild itself.
After finishing his meal, he packed a small backpack. He placed some fruit inside, a water canteen, and finally the small wooden box where the golden-striped mouse usually slept.
As soon as he opened the lid, the tiny animal poked its nose out, its nostrils twitching as it curiously sniffed the surroundings. Its bright eyes scanned every corner.
Lukas smiled, gently stroking its head.
"We’re going out today."
...
The five of them followed the familiar trail, the forest opening before them like an old friend.
Tilbo walked heavily beside him, her massive body moving with surprising grace. Her imposing presence drove away any animal that might pose a threat.
Astra flew several meters overhead, her sharp eyes scanning the horizon. From time to time, she swooped toward the ground, snatching small insects that had gone unnoticed.
Prata accompanied them only as far as the entrance to the forest. The enormous spider stopped on a low tree, her legs gripping the rough bark. Then she climbed down silently, approached Lukas, and gently touched his hand with one of her front legs.
Lukas felt the soft, almost affectionate touch and smiled. She always did this before leaving to hunt, as though asking for permission or saying goodbye.
Then she turned toward the depths of the forest, her dark body moving with unsettling fluidity.
Lukas immediately understood.
"Going hunting?"
The enormous spider remained still for a moment, as though confirming it. Then she disappeared among the trees without making the slightest sound, her dark body blending into the shadows.
Lukas smiled, his voice gentle.
"Come back before it gets dark."
The rest of the group continued walking, the forest looking especially beautiful that morning. Sunlight filtered through the leaves, creating dancing patterns across the ground covered with moss and dry leaves.
