Chapter 157: Chapter 122: Yi Chen: You’re Not Suitable
"Boss, seeing as I’m buying so much, how about we call it six thousand!"
"That works."
These were big customers, and they were likely to become regulars. Gu Nan was willing to give them a small discount.
Yi Chen was packing the blue crabs, so he got up too and grabbed a large box to pack the long-jawed trevally.
"Boss, do you guys deliver? I live in the city, and it’s pretty inconvenient to have to come all the way here to buy fish for every shoot," the man with the slicked-back hair asked, walking up to him.
"We can, but you’ll have to cover the shipping fee."
"Of course. Let’s add each other on WeChat. I’ll just message you directly when I want to buy fish in the future."
"You should add my employee on WeChat. I’m sometimes out at sea and might be unreachable."
Hearing this, the man’s eyes lit up. "Boss, you go out fishing too?"
"No, not commercial fishing. I just go angling."
"Oh, I see!"
The man nodded in understanding. Since they had just met, there were some things he couldn’t just come out and say. But an idea had already formed in his mind, and he planned to see if he could make it happen once they were better acquainted.
After the man with the slicked-back hair left, no one else came to buy the yellowcheek carp that morning. In the end, Yi Chen contacted the person from yesterday and sold it for five thousand.
Whether or not you could get a good price for this kind of large fish depended entirely on the bidders.
If there were a lot of people competing for it, the price would naturally be high. If there were few, the price would be low.
If this person had the right connections, they could probably flip it for seven or eight thousand, tearfully pocketing a profit of two or three thousand.
After selling the yellowcheek carp, it was already a little past ten. Gu Nan wanted to go into the city for lunch, so he decided to just close up shop early.
"Let’s close up. We’ll go into the city for lunch, and then we’ll go look at cars this afternoon."
The boss had given the word to clock out, so Yi Chen certainly wasn’t going to object.
They tidied up the shop, mopped the floor, took off their waterproof boots to change into their own shoes, and then closed the door and left.
The two of them reached the entrance. Just as Gu Nan was about to hail a ride-share, he saw An Jun approaching on his little electric scooter.
"What’s up with you two? Why are you just standing here?"
He had received the hundred thousand yuan and decided to come take a look, not expecting to see the two of them right at the entrance.
"I’m planning to go look at some cars, so we closed early. What about you? Haven’t heard from you in days. Did a typhoon blow you over here today?"
"A typhoon didn’t blow me over, but your hundred thousand yuan certainly called to me. Did you strike it rich recently? Not only did you pay back my hundred thousand, but now you’re going to buy a car!"
"I did come into a bit of money, yeah. Why don’t you come with us?" Gu Nan figured An Jun was more knowledgeable about this stuff and might be able to help him make a quick decision, so he didn’t mind bringing another person along.
But upon hearing this, Yi Chen couldn’t help but pout. ’Today was supposed to be an outing for just the two of us—not quite a date, but better than one.’
’Now there’s a third wheel. The vibe is definitely going to be ruined.’
Coincidentally, An Jun happened to see her pouting, and a look of sudden realization dawned on his face.
"Oh! So you two are going on a date! My bad, my bad. You two have fun, I’ll take off."
Without giving Gu Nan a chance to react, he turned around and zipped away.
After riding about ten meters, he suddenly stopped again.
"You two take it easy now! A typhoon’s coming... Huh, wait, no, a typhoon coming is a good thing! It gives you a perfect excuse not to come back."
"..." A perfectly normal trip to buy a car was instantly twisted into something else by his words.
Gu Nan turned and saw Yi Chen with her head lowered, the tips of her ears bright red. ’The explanation I was about to give is no longer necessary,’ he thought.
He took out his phone to hail a ride-share. "How about we get some Japanese food for lunch?"
"Anything’s fine with me." Yi Chen kept her head down, lightly tapping the ground with the tip of her shoe. An Jun’s words had clearly made her very shy.
Since she had no objections, he set the destination to Zhao Jie’s Japanese restaurant.
Japanese food could be a bit of a rip-off, but Gu Nan was actually curious about the texture and flavor of the fish from his own shop after being prepared by a chef. He also wanted to see how well it was selling.
It was already eleven in the morning when the two arrived at the restaurant, where two tables were already occupied.
Coincidentally, Zhao Jie and Zhao Jiajia were just coming down from the second floor, deep in conversation.
"Huh? Yi Chen, Boss Gu, you two~~" Zhao Jiajia’s expression faltered for a moment when she saw them. Then, as if she’d thought of something, a mischievous smile spread across her face.
Although Yi Chen and she had already become good friends who chatted often—they would even go out shopping at night when Zhao Jiajia was back in Yangjiang Port on vacation—Yi Chen hadn’t told her about the change in her relationship with Gu Nan. She hadn’t even mentioned her own budding feelings; someone used to being alone doesn’t easily reveal their heart to others.
And yet, no one would ever think their relationship was just that of an ordinary boss and employee.
"I’m going to buy a car, so I figured we’d stop by your place for lunch." Gu Nan’s expression was nonchalant as he faced Zhao Jiajia’s teasing.
"Come, come, right this way upstairs! We have private rooms!" Hearing they were there to eat, Zhao Jie immediately and enthusiastically invited them up.
Gu Nan followed him upstairs, while Yi Chen was pulled aside by Zhao Jiajia, who was whispering to her.
Her blushing little face looked so delicate, making one want to just give it a little squish.
And so, seeing the formerly aloof Yi Chen acting like such a shy young woman, Zhao Jiajia really couldn’t resist and gave her a quick peck on the cheek.
Seeing Yi Chen look at her in surprise, she said, a little embarrassed, "You’re just too cute. I couldn’t help myself."
Yi Chen rolled her eyes, speechless. Her previous shyness vanished instantly. "Oh, stop it. There’s nothing going on between me and the boss."
"Right, right, nothing at all! In that case, can I join you guys for lunch? I haven’t eaten yet either."
"Sure, why not? The boss is paying anyway. But if you join us, it’ll probably turn into your brother treating us instead!"
It was obvious that even though they were good friends, Yi Chen didn’t want Zhao Jiajia to join them, she just didn’t show it.
Zhao Jiajia’s eyes darted slyly. "It’s fine, my brother won’t mind. And I think Boss Gu is pretty handsome. He’s successful—a real quality guy. I should get to know him. You never know, something might develop. After all, there’s nothing between you two, right?"
Yi Chen stopped in her tracks. Her large eyes narrowed slightly as she looked at her friend. "You’re not his type!"
