Leon began rising up. The higher he soared, the more the pressure increased. Though it wasn’t Leon’s original body and only his consciousness, Leon still felt like his organs were being crushed by an invisible force. Yet Leon didn’t stop. He gritted his teeth and continued to rise up. Finally, after more than four hours, which felt like eternity, Leon crossed another barrier. The moment he did, a gust of strong astral energy struck him. It was so pure that he didn’t even have to focus to feel it. It felt like astral energy was flowing instead of air in this layer.
Closing his eyes, Leon inhaled deeply as the energy entered through his nostrils, refreshing his mind. The force was still trying to force him out of the layer. But Leon’s determination seemed resolute enough to withstand it. At least for the moment.
After adjusting to the pressure for a while, Leon again started to rise. "I can barely withstand this pressure, but I don’t believe this is my limit. I can do it. I have to do it."
Time ticked by as Leon’s consciousness continued to close the distance toward the eighth layer.
Hours passed. Yet the border didn’t arrive.
Outside the volcano...
Snow’s car finally reached the mountain region, and she quickly got out of the car. Even though almost everyone was hiding in different places, suppressing their energy so others wouldn’t notice, all were already aware of others’ presence. Because everyone who had come today was undoubtedly strong.
So, Snow could also detect many presences. She definitely wasn’t one of the strongest people here, but she still didn’t bother to hide. She directly strode forward along the mountain trail.
Sylus Moure had already reached the mountain top. He was now standing at the edge of the mountain top, looking at the volcano below. "Twenty years. I have been waiting to get my hands on that pill for twenty years. If this Leon Bale can really bring it out, I will pay him well. I will even offer him a position in my guild." Sylus muttered.
A heavy silence prevailed in the mountain region. But all could tell. It was just the silence before the storm.
All were waiting for Leon Bale. Waiting to get their hands on the pill the moment he appeared.
Only if they knew that Leon’s consciousness had finally reached the boundary of the eighth layer of the Astral River. But it wouldn’t make much difference, though. Because they had no idea what kind of otherworldly power Leon was about to unlock.
Leon crossed yet another barrier. But the instant he reached the eighth layer, the pressure increased so much that Leon’s real body coughed up blood. Leon felt his consciousness could cease to exist at any moment.
Astral energy howled as it flowed, as if a storm was brewing on the horizon. Blood gushed out from the nose of Leon’s real body.
Leon’s body cried to collapse on the ground, eyes begging to shut down. But his mind forced them to obey, forced them to hang on. "No matter what, I am reaching the ninth layer." He whispered.
The demon observed Leon’s body worsen with each passing second. Worry was etched in his face, but he didn’t offer help. Whatever was happening, Leon had to face it alone, fight it himself with everything he had.
Seconds passed by as the pressure continued to torture Leon’s body and soul. Each second felt like a year. Leon felt like small insects were chewing his organs from inside.
This continued for almost one hour. But Leon didn’t let the dizziness swallow him. Finally, as if even the pressure was impressed by Leon’s resilience, it started to fade. Leon finally breathed a sigh of relief as he noticed this. It took almost one more hour before Leon could finally stand tall again.
Inside the volcano, Leon’s whole body was drenched in sweat as the wet clothes clung to him tightly.
"Phew!" Leon exhaled. "That was close." He took some time to relax before again looking up. His eyes shimmered with excitement.
He was about to soar in the sky again, but just then a voice echoed through the whole sky. "Where do you think you are going, boy?"
Leon stopped. The voice only asked a question, but Leon felt like, for some reason, his heart was pounding fast. He looked around but found none. "Who are you? Show yourself." He shouted.
"Who am I? Are you worthy enough to ask that question?" The voice didn’t reply and asked a question instead. "You already arrived at the eighth layer. You almost died due to the pressure in this layer. Yet you still want to go higher? You should know when to cross a line and when not to. You think you are being persistent? But you’re letting your greed control you. Be happy that you could already reach this level and start cultivating."
"I am letting my greed control me? What’s wrong with trying for the best? I am letting my greed control me? Who settles for less when they can have more?"
"You think you survived the eighth layer’s pressure due to your resilience? And you can do the same when you go to the ninth one? Presumptuous!" The voice roared.
"Presumptuous or not, if it isn’t forbidden to go to the ninth layer, I’m definitely going." Saying that, Leon didn’t wait and started flying above again.
But before he could, a figure wrapped in fabric appeared above Leon, stopping him from advancing.
"Scram!" The figure didn’t attack and only spat one word. But that single word felt like a thunderbolt, slamming on Leon’s body like the weight of a planet.
Whoooooosh! Leon didn’t have a body. But he could hear the whistling sound as a strong gust of wind brushed past his ears. His consciousness was sent tumbling through the air.
He descended like a meteor and only stopped after crossing more than a thousand metres.
Leon didn’t have his real body, yes. But to send his consciousness flying for more than a thousand metres with just a single word!
Leon raised his head, staring at the figure. "Do I have to fight it to enter the ninth layer?"
Instead of fear, Leon’s eyes shone with unbreakable will.
