After they finished regulating their breathing, the Core Formation Masters rose one by one to inspect the corpse of the Bear Zombie.
As a Tier Four Transformed Demon King, this Bear had been composed entirely of Tier Four Materials when it was alive. One could say its whole body was a treasure trove.
Unfortunately, it had now been dead for ten thousand years, had turned into a zombie, and had just endured a barrage of lightning and fire... The quality of most of its body parts had degraded.
But even as Tier Three Materials, they were still valuable.
The Foundation Establishment Cultivators couldn’t even make a dent in its corpse; the Core Formation Masters had to slowly carve it up themselves.
Looking at the Bear’s corpse, Master Wan Shi spoke with some relief.
"Thankfully, the Demon King that escaped today wasn’t a flying type. I’ve heard there are still a few corpses of Tier Four flying-type Demon Kings in the South Sea Blessed Land’s relics."
The other Core Formation Masters all nodded in deep agreement. It was indeed something to be thankful for.
Although Tier Three and Tier Four Demon Kings could all fly, other species were simply not as fast as the flying types.
This Bear Demon King, in particular, had several defensive Divine Abilities. Its full power could only be unleashed while standing on the ground, so even though it could fly, it resolutely refused to.
If it had been a Tier Four flying-type Demon King instead, it could have flown to a densely populated area with just a few flaps of its wings. Intercepting it would have been impossible, and today would have ended in tragedy.
"Today’s events," Master Wu Gong of the Taihe Sect said slowly, "have served as a wake-up call. Five Core Formation Masters are of little use against a relatively strong Demon King. Forget about intercepting it; we’d be lucky to escape with our lives."
Tongming Master agreed. "Indeed. If not for the timely promotion of Master Wan Shi’s Treasure, the Water Yu Sword, we might have all perished here. Fellow Daoist Wu Gong, Fellow Daoist Yu, please inform your respective sects. The garrison plan needs to be revised."
"It was quite the coincidence... But why did the Water Yu Sword get promoted at that specific moment?" Master Wu Gong looked at Master Wan Shi.
Du Youqian had already returned the Water Yu Sword to Master Wan Shi.
After the great battle, the red mole between Master Wan Shi’s eyebrows looked particularly striking. She wore a pensive expression as she shook her head. "I’m not sure either."
Watching them put on this act from a distance, Fang Hua was thoroughly confused.
It was obvious that the strange transformation of the Water Yu Sword was caused by her Brother Yu, so why was everyone questioning Master Wan Shi instead of sparing him a single glance?
Du Youqian feigned deep thought for a moment before declaring as if in a flash of insight, "Perhaps its time had simply come. First, the Water Yu Sword’s materials are excellent, giving it the potential to be promoted. The sages of the Chongzhen Sect nurtured this sword for thousands of years, bringing it to the very threshold of promotion. And today, facing a powerful enemy, the Sword’s will to fight was stimulated, leading to its breakthrough."
Tongming Master looked at Master Wan Shi. "Is that so?"
Lin Sha said frostily, "As I see it, that is precisely the case."
Master Wan Shi smiled at Du Youqian. "I also believe that might be the case."
Master Wu Gong said, "If that’s the case, let’s all make sure to stick to the same story when we report back to our sects."
"Of course."
"Rest assured, Fellow Daoist Wu Gong."
Everyone has secrets, and Yu Fei, a True Inheritor of the Holy Blood Sect, was no exception.
Everyone was curious, but it wasn’t worth misplacing that curiosity and offending the True Inheritor.
It wasn’t that they were afraid; they just felt it was unnecessary.
Besides, they each had their own theories.
For example, Master Wan Shi guessed that Du Youqian possessed the Demon Core of an ape-type Tier Four Demon King, or perhaps even one from a Tier Five or Tier Six Demon Emperor.
Master Wu Gong and Tongming Master, on the other hand, believed that in addition to being an Array Master, Du Youqian was also a high-tier Master of Treasure Refining. They thought he had used a high-tier Spiritual Object to apply a Refining Treasure Art to the Water Yu Sword.
And the Water Yu Sword had lived up to expectations. Its potential had been unlocked, allowing it to be promoted smoothly and helping them slay their powerful foe.
However, defeating a powerful enemy was one thing...
After today, the Water Yu Sword would become another headache.
A Tier Four Treasure could temporarily boost a Core Formation Master’s attack power to a level approaching the Nascent Soul realm.
From now on, Master Wan Shi, who wielded this sword, could no longer be regarded as an ordinary Core Formation Master.
Challenging the deeply rooted Taihe and Holy Blood Sects was, of course, out of the question.
Neither of those two sects lacked Tier Four Middle Grade Treasures, or even Tier Five Upper Grade Treasures.
But if Master Wan Shi were to one day get it in her head to single-handedly suppress another sect—the True Preservation Sect, for example—with her sword, it would be enough to make the Taihe Sect tear its hair out.
But that was a problem for the future.
Right now, all they wanted was to collect the bodies of their sects’ juniors and mourn, patch up the Grand Array, and replenish the Spiritual Diamond reserves, lest another Tier Four zombie appeared anytime soon.
Most importantly, they were all injured. They had all more or less lost a Defensive Spiritual Artifact or two and had used up some of their trump cards. It was no longer appropriate for them to continue the garrison mission, and they needed to be relieved as soon as possible.

Before returning to their sects, Tongming Master, Master Wan Shi, and Lin Sha all came to see Du Youqian in private.
Tongming Master gave Du Youqian a Jade Scroll. Seeing the stunned look on Du Youqian’s face, he smiled and explained, "Don’t misunderstand. This isn’t one of my sect’s secret arts, just some of my personal insights on practicing Swordsmanship."
After a moment’s hesitation, Du Youqian gave a somewhat bitter and uncertain smile. "Thank you for your kindness, Master, but I have nothing to offer in return..."
He didn’t believe that such precious insights on Swordsmanship, the culmination of half a lifetime of Tongming Master’s effort, could be bought with Spiritual Jade or Spiritual Artifacts.
Tongming Master gave a stiff smile. "Young Friend Yu, I am a Sword Fool, and my sect has many other Sword Fools just like me. I’m sharing my insights with you not because I expect anything in return, but because I hope you’ll grow into an even more exceptional Swordsman. Then, one day, we can have a truly satisfying Sword Fighting match!"
"Huh?"
Du Youqian’s stunned expression made Tongming Master throw his head back and laugh. For the first time, his extremely serious and rigid face showed a lively expression.
This was Tongming Master. This was the Sword Madman of the Lingxiao Sword Pavilion.
His reputation was indeed well-deserved.
Master Wan Shi’s visit was also within Du Youqian’s expectations.
This Kun Cultivator, with her plain features and tranquil air, had her black hair tied up with a simple Cold Jade Hairpin. Her fingers rested lightly on the unadorned Sword Scabbard of the Water Yu Sword as she smiled at Du Youqian. "Fellow Daoist Yu, thank you for helping the Water Yu Sword get promoted. My entire sect is in your debt for this favor."
Du Youqian smiled. "It was a trivial matter, not worth mentioning. Besides, the situation was dire, and I was only acting to save myself. You needn’t worry about it, Fellow Daoist Wan Shi."
This was tantamount to admitting he was responsible for the Water Yu Sword’s promotion.
As for what had been said beside the Bear’s corpse, everyone knew those were just pleasantries that couldn’t be taken at face value.
Master Wan Shi’s enchanting eyes swept over Du Youqian. "The way you speak and act, Fellow Daoist Yu, you’ve never seemed like someone from the Holy Blood Sect. You’re more like a virtuous True Cultivator from the Profound Sects."
"Heh." There was no way to respond to that.
"Please remember this promise, Fellow Daoist Yu: whenever you are in need, you may come to my sect and seek me out. I will lend my aid with the Water Yu Sword, just once. For anything, at any time."
Du Youqian looked deep into Master Wan Shi’s eyes. "Then what if I were to ask you to help me kill a Master from the Taihe Sect?"
"I would naturally honor my promise and act. Afterward, however, I would take my own life to atone." As she spoke, she shot Du Youqian a look, as if to say, ’But you would never do such a thing. I know you better than that.’
"Then allow me to thank you in advance for your assistance, Master."
"Oh?" Master Wan Shi’s eyes narrowed. "Fellow Daoist Yu, have you already thought of a matter for which you need my help?"
"Not yet. I hope that a situation requiring your help, Fellow Daoist Wan Shi, never arises."
Master Wan Shi pursed her lips into a smile. "I hope for the same."

When Lin Sha came over, she leaped into Du Youqian’s arms as lithely as a cat, wrapped her arms around his neck, and planted a passionate kiss on him.
After a long, passionate embrace, she pushed Du Youqian away, her face flushed like a Peach Blossom. "What did you say to that Daoist nun to make her so happy? She was smiling from ear to ear when she left."
Du Youqian laughed. "I told her that after I divorce Master Qingqiu, I’ll marry her as my Dao Companion."
"Is that so?" Lin Sha wasn’t angry. On the contrary, she gave a bewitching smile. "You don’t have to divorce me, you know. I can serve you alongside her. Of course, if she takes it the wrong way and decides to chop you up with that Tier Four Treasure Flying Sword, I won’t be able to protect you. That’s a Tier Four Treasure, you know!"
Du Youqian detected the thick jealousy in her tone and quickly explained, "I really don’t have a way to upgrade a Tier Three Treasure to Tier Four."
As he spoke, he took out the Stone Egg. Back in the relics of the Cyan Yang Sect, Lin Sha had personally witnessed the Vermilion Bird—an existence possibly at the Demon Emperor Level—drip its Essence Blood into the Stone Egg. She had also heard the Vermilion Bird say that the life within the Stone Egg possessed the Great Sage Bloodline.
"All I can say is, that Water Yu Sword had some affinity with this little one, so the little one gave it a hand."
Lin Sha put on a fierce face. "Then make it upgrade my Treasure by a tier, too."
Her Hong Ling Treasure descended over Du Youqian’s head.
"It’s just an egg..."
Lin Sha said, "Then hatch it."
Du Youqian was stunned. "How?"
Lin Sha blushed and whispered a few words in his ear.
"That’s... not really appropriate, is it!" Though his words said one thing, he was actually a little tempted.
’I’ve never tried that particular move before!’
’It sounds fascinating.’
"There’s nothing inappropriate about it. Hurry up and change into your Qing Lang form. Come on!" Lin Sha’s eyes were silky with seduction as she tugged on the Hong Ling, pulling Du Youqian down onto the bed.
