Du Youqian’s words naturally earned him an eye-roll from Feng Xiaoyi.
It wasn’t that he had low emotional intelligence; he was doing it on purpose.
Because he hadn’t yet decided what to do.
Hear their words, observe their actions.
Right now, he had only heard Feng Xiaoyi’s words, not seen her actions.
After all, as everyone on Earth knew, women were the best liars, and the more beautiful the woman, the better she lied.
Feng Xiaoyi might not be a woman... but at the very least, she was a vixen.
So he had to wait until they reached the cave-dwelling, see what she did, and then decide on his own course of action.
If she didn’t betray his trust, he naturally wouldn’t betray hers.
If Feng Xiaoyi was harboring sinister intentions, then they would just have to see whose methods were more formidable.
The Flying Boat continued south, with Feng Xiaoyi still chattering away.
Little Wukong was fast asleep in the back, a large snot bubble inflating and deflating on his nose...
~~~~~~~~
"Great Saint, what are you looking at?" Seeing the Great Saint Incarnation staring south, standing motionless for a long time, Jiu Banxiu couldn’t help but ask.
"Nothing," the Great Saint Incarnation, Yuan Liulang, said flatly, retracting his gaze.
’That little one... What is he doing, running off to the south?’
’His relationship with that human seems pretty good, so there’s no need to intervene. We’ll just see how things turn out for them. Will they turn on each other? Just like...’
Yuan Liulang let out a soft sigh. "Let’s go!"
Jiu Banxiu thought, ’Great Saint... why was there regret in his sigh?’
’Even the Great Saint has regrets?’
’The Great Saint Incarnation is invincible in the Human World. Why would he have regrets?’
Only when Yuan Liulang had walked a few steps away did she snap back to her senses and hurry after him. "Great Saint, where are we going?"
"Didn’t we say we were attacking the Taihe Sect? We’re going to Sui Shou Mountain, of course," Yuan Liulang said.
"But... this isn’t the way to Sui Shou Mountain..."
Yuan Liulang shrugged, his tattered armor clanking with a "KACHA." He let out a sly chuckle. "I’ve heard the Spirit Wine from the Shuangxi Sect is the best under heaven. I plan to take down the Shuangxi Sect first, then go attack the Taihe Sect while enjoying some fine wine."
"But..." Jiu Banxiu started to admonish him, but then she saw the look in Yuan Liulang’s eyes. Her heart instantly began to pound in panic, and she swallowed the rest of her words.
"Yes. This servant shall obey the Great Saint’s decree."
’The Great Saint Incarnation’s gaze is terrifying...’ she thought.
’Then again, the Great Saint Incarnation just woke up from his suppressed slumber. How would he know about the Shuangxi Sect?’
’Tier Six... Does it truly possess such incredible power?’
The Blood Slaughter Sword and the Rivers and Mountains Map were said to be gifts from the Upper Realm bestowed upon the Human Race of the Human World. At their peak, they were Tier Seven Spiritual Treasures.
Although they had been continuously weakening over the past eight thousand years to sustain this Small World, they were perhaps now Tier Five, or at best, had maintained a Tier Six Early Stage.
’But could it be that they, too, possess power beyond my imagination?’
’Great Saint... Can he defeat them?’
Jiu Banxiu was beginning to have regrets.
For a Tier Five Demon Emperor to gauge the might of a Tier Six existence was an inherently inaccurate endeavor.
’Have I... made a mistake?’
"Oh, right," Yuan Liulang added. "Those Demon Kings under your command... they didn’t die."
Jiu Banxiu quickly replied, "This servant will have them all come at once to follow the Great Saint to Sui Shou Mountain."
"No need. What I mean is, let them do whatever they want. If they want to eat meat, let them eat meat. If they want to drink, let them drink. I alone am enough to take down the Taihe Sect. If Grandpa Monkey here can’t take down the Taihe Sect, then it doesn’t matter how many of those Tier Three Demon Kings show up."
Jiu Banxiu felt the Great Saint Incarnation’s words held a deeper meaning. She lowered her head and replied, "Yes. This servant shall obey the Great Saint’s decree."
Lin Sha and Fang Hua were traveling together when a Thousand-Mile Shuttle suddenly flew past. A Jade Slip shot out from it, landing in front of them.
Lin Sha picked up the Jade Slip and extended her Divine Sense into it.
A moment later, astonishment was written all over her face. "We’re all to gather at the Holy Blood Sect. Forget about this place."
Fang Hua couldn’t be bothered to overthink it. "Then let’s go."
Lin Sha was still frowning, deep in thought. "But why? Even though this wave of Demon Zombies has been cleared out, shouldn’t we be on guard against another batch emerging from the Desolate Abyss?"
Fang Hua raised a shapely eyebrow, her expression valiant. "What’s there to worry about? No matter how many of these zombies come, we can get rid of them easily."
Lin Sha thought, ’This little... this little Core Formation Cultivator sure talks big. Do you have any idea how many Core Formation Masters died today?’
’Besides, the higher-ups are urgently ordering everyone to gather at the Holy Blood Sect. Something unexpected has clearly happened.’
’How can you be so carefree, without a hint of caution?’
’Whatever...’ Lin Sha mused. ’This woman is quite powerful. If she’s a bit of an idiot, so be it.’
’If something happens later, I can stick with her for safety.’
By the time she and Fang Hua arrived at the Holy Blood Sect, an unremarkable man at the Qi Cultivation Late Stage hurried past them.
Fang Hua opened her palm, where a thin Jade Slip lay quietly.
Seeing the mark on the bottom of the Jade Slip, she extended her Divine Sense.
It was indeed a message from Du Youqian.
Lin Sha saw Fang Hua’s expression change drastically and grew nervous. "What is it?"
Fang Hua didn’t speak, just handed her the Jade Slip.
Lin Sha extended her Divine Sense. After she finished reading the message, her expression also turned grim.
The message wasn’t long. Du Youqian was just telling them—and Meng Xiao and Luo Jinyu—that he had to leave for a while on some business.
If the Sect ordered them to sacrifice themselves, they were not to agree immediately, nor were they to resist. They just had to stall until Du Youqian returned.
Lin Sha and Fang Hua exchanged a look, seeing the same gravity and confusion in each other’s eyes:
What on earth could have made Du Youqian leave so suddenly?
And what kind of crisis would require even Core Formation Masters to sacrifice themselves?
"We’re here." Above a lush, dense forest, one rarely touched by human feet—no, one with no traces of human activity at all—Feng Xiaoyi landed the Flying Boat.
Little Wukong stretched lazily in the back of the Flying Boat. Still not satisfied, he flopped onto the deck and stretched again with all his might before jumping up, full of energy, to peer curiously at the ground below.
This was the deepest part of the Hundred Thousand Mountains. Judging by the distance they had traveled, the edge of the world couldn’t be much farther ahead.
The two humans and one monkey disembarked from the Flying Boat. To be precise, the two humans walked off, while the monkey sat on Du Youqian’s shoulder, looking around happily.
It clearly loved the sight of this primeval forest; it was as if it had come home.
As an Array Master, Du Youqian could faintly sense the presence of a Grand Array.
There was definitely an Array concealing Feng Xiaoyi’s cave-dwelling.
As for whether Feng Xiaoyi was capable of this... if even half of what she’d said before was true, then she had to be at least a Tier Four Array Grandmaster, or perhaps even a Tier Five Grandmaster.
Otherwise, did she really think just any Tom, Dick, or Harry could set up a Teleportation Array?
At the very least, with Du Youqian’s current attainments in Arrays, he couldn’t easily set up a Teleportation Array.
"This way." Feng Xiaoyi led Du Youqian into the woods.
Du Youqian hesitated for a moment before following.
A normal person walking unprotected into such a dense, primeval forest would be courting death, and their progress would be slower than a snail’s.
However, the dense trees and vines couldn’t impede their steps, and the venomous insects and fierce beasts were too intimidated by their auras to cause trouble.
Little Wukong cheerfully leaped from Du Youqian’s shoulder, swinging from vines and branches through the forest until he was out of sight in moments.
Du Youqian paid him no mind, unafraid of him getting lost.
Feng Xiaoyi reminded him, "There are many fierce beasts and venomous snakes here. Tell your pet to be careful not to get bitten."
Du Youqian just smiled without a word.
As Feng Xiaoyi walked, she looked around in all directions, apparently searching for some kind of landmark.
Soon, a look of delight appeared on her face. "Here it is! The last time I was back was several lifetimes ago. I haven’t been here in almost two thousand years; I almost couldn’t find the way."
’She probably tried to return to the cave-dwelling for several consecutive lifetimes but was stopped by that Tier Four Puppet,’ Du Youqian thought. ’That must be why she finally gave up.’
’That would make sense.’
After passing through another stretch of woods, they arrived before a cliff. Feng Xiaoyi took out a comb-shaped Treasure and threw it.
An unending RUMBLE filled the air. Soon, all the trees in front of the cliff had been felled, and most of the earth before it had been dug away.
Only then did Feng Xiaoyi fly over, leading Du Youqian straight toward the cliff face.
Du Youqian could also see that this was actually a corner of an Illusion Array.
They charged through and found themselves in a cave.
The cave was clearly man-made, its walls quite smooth, though it was now covered in moss.
Just then, Little Wukong came scampering back and hopped onto Du Youqian’s shoulder, peering curiously inside.
"There are no traps in this tunnel; it’s very safe. But once we reach the end, we need to be careful to conceal our auras, because we might run into those Puppets," Feng Xiaoyi warned.
But Du Youqian had already raised his guard to the highest level.
From now on, he had to suspect everything. Otherwise, who knew when Feng Xiaoyi might turn on him?
Maybe she just needed to find some fool at the Core Formation Realm to use for a Blood Sacrifice to break into the cave-dwelling.
Although he had actually taken the time to perform a divination, only a fool would place too much faith in his own divinations.
If she really was an old monster who had lived for over nine thousand years, she would have countless ways to cloud the heavenly secrets.
On the surface, Du Youqian was calm, but inwardly he was cautiously feeling his way forward.
Feng Xiaoyi naturally noticed his vigilance but said nothing, only offering a coquettish smile.
The tunnel was very long, but with the speed of Core Formation Cultivators, they covered the distance quickly.
Feng Xiaoyi also slowed her pace and used a Secret Technique to conceal her aura.
Du Youqian naturally followed her lead, suppressing his aura and proceeding cautiously.
