I Can Reincarnate Infinitely
Chapter 264 - 259: The Mastermind? Cut Them DownPerhaps their pursuers had yet to react, as Du Youqian’s group of three reached a nearby county town without being intercepted.
They used the silver coins looted from the corpses to check into an inn, and Qing He asked the innkeeper for hot water.
After helping Du Youqian finish his bath, she hopped into the same tub he had used.
She soaked contentedly for the time it takes to drink a cup of tea, feeling as if she were washing away all the exhaustion, anxiety, and worry from the past few days.
Soaking in the hot water, a wave of drowsiness washed over her, and Qing He began to drift off... until a soft "CREAK" came from the window.
"Who’s there?" Hearing the sound, Qing He quickly grabbed a towel to cover her chest and whipped her head around to look.
When she saw the open window and, sitting on the sill, a handsome, martial-looking young man with a roguish smile and a saber at his waist, Qing He breathed a sigh of relief.
But her relief quickly turned to a mix of shame and anger. "Why would you barge in while a woman is bathing!"
"Relax, I’m not interested in you." The martial young man’s smile was roguish, but he was also handsome and very attractive.
Qing He’s face tensed. "You shouldn’t be here!"
He chuckled playfully. "What does it matter? It just so happens that I can’t be bothered to act anymore. I’ll just capture him directly and force the location of that token out of him."
Qing He’s expression darkened. "That’s what those dead fools from last night were thinking, too."
The martial young man grinned. "A few second-rate thugs. Their deaths mean nothing. But it did show us that the kid is more than he seems! And that’s your fault. You’ve been by his side for so many years, and you didn’t even know he knew Swordsmanship?"
Qing He was unfazed. "What’s so strange about me not knowing? You had plenty of people planted in Xianlai Castle, didn’t you? Did any of them know he knew Swordsmanship? I bet even his own father didn’t know. I don’t understand Martial Arts. What level would you say his skills are at?"
The martial young man laughed. "My father personally examined the five bodies at the scene. His Swordsmanship is brilliant, but his Power seems lacking. A first-rate master, perhaps? Roughly. To guarantee a win against him, you need a master at the Postnatal Peak like me to step in. And so, here I am."
"Good that you came. Saves me the trouble of looking for you."
As he spoke, Du Youqian, a sword hanging from his waist, pushed the door open and entered. He first nodded at Qing He in the tub. Though he saw her fair skin and the proud peaks the towel couldn’t fully conceal, his heart remained perfectly calm. He then turned to the martial young man. "State your name."
The martial young man leaped down from the windowsill, grinning as he drew his saber as if it were a joke. "You really dared to show yourself. In that case, come back with me. The Ancestor wants to see you. The Ancestor is worried you’d rather die than reveal the token’s location, so he’s willing to play along with you for a while. But I’m not that patient. If you don’t cooperate, I’ll just break your arms and legs, drag you back, and torture you slowly."
"This Ancestor you speak of," Du Youqian said, "what level of Qi Refining is he?"
The martial young man looked surprised. He sized Du Youqian up seriously for a moment before resuming his smile. "You actually know about the ranking system for Immortal Masters. Then again, I suppose you come from a knowledgeable family. To be honest, my family’s Ancestor is only an Innate Master, but he serves an Immortal Master. Now that you know, come with me quietly. Don’t force me to break your arms and legs. You’ll only be making yourself suffer."
Du Youqian nodded. "Understood. One last question. Your family line isn’t passed down through a single son each generation, is it?"
The martial young man gave a roguish grin. "What I do know is that you’re the last surviving whelp of the Baili Clan of Xianlai Castle. Don’t doubt it. I counted every single head myself. We even traced your lineage back ten generations, starting from Baili Shang’s generation. Every descendant of the Baili Family, not a single one left. We caught them all in one fell swoop."
Du Youqian sighed. "Was it worth it? All for a Core Formation Master’s token."
The martial young man looked surprised again. "You really do know a lot. But from your tone, you probably don’t understand what a Core Formation Master truly represents, do you? If you really understood, you couldn’t possibly be this calm."
At this, a look of yearning and fanaticism appeared in his eyes. "If the one my family’s Ancestor serves can use the token to meet that Core Formation Master, he has promised our family an entire kingdom as a reward. Just like back then, when the Du Family somehow gained the favor of a Core Formation Master and was propped up as the Imperial Family of the Wu Kingdom. And with the resources of an entire kingdom, our family could one day cultivate our own Immortal Masters!"
"I generally understand," Du Youqian said as he slowly untied the sword from his waist—one he had casually bought for five Silver Yuan upon entering the city. "If I kill you, your Innate Grandmaster ancestor should come looking for me, right? I have many things I want to ask him."
"Kill me?" The martial young man roared with laughter, clutching his stomach and pointing at his own nose, his expression exaggerated and comical. "How are you going to kill me? Tell a joke and make me die of laughter? I can already tell you don’t have a shred of True Qi in your body. And with every move you make, your steps are unsteady. You’re obviously an ordinary person who has never trained in Martial Arts. I don’t know what trick you used to kill my family’s four servants last night, but today, I... GHK, GHK..."
He looked down in astonishment to see Du Youqian’s sword already piercing his throat.
He was utterly bewildered. How had the other man attacked?
He hadn’t even seen the man’s shoulder move. It completely defied common sense.
’How can you draw a sword without moving your shoulder?’
’How did this ordinary person, who doesn’t know any Martial Arts, manage it...’
’I have to pull the sword out... I still have so much to ask...’ But he found his strength rapidly leaving him.
Qing He shrank back in terror, trying to make herself as small as possible.
It wasn’t the sight of murder that frightened her, but the fact that she had just been exposed in front of Du Youqian. Now, her life and death were entirely in his hands.
She truly couldn’t understand how Guo Fenghuan had died.
She hadn’t seen anything clearly, only the sword suddenly stuck in Guo Fenghuan’s throat.
The Guo Family Ancestor would not let this go.
She wanted to scream, to shout at him: ’Why did you kill him? Don’t you know we’re finished?! The Guo Family Ancestor isn’t some ordinary Innate Grandmaster; he’s been gifted many Immortal Treasures by an Immortal Master!’
’Even if your skills are close to an Innate Grandmaster’s, you’re no match for the Guo Family Ancestor!’
’Otherwise, why would I have betrayed you?’
’It was simply because there was no chance of winning!’
’Even if Baili Yingxiong had also broken through to the Innate realm, the Guo Family Ancestor could kill him as easily as killing a dog!’
As a personal handmaiden, Qing He was actually very ambitious. She had once dreamed of becoming Baili Jianxin’s concubine, so she had diligently learned to read and study, and had voraciously absorbed knowledge about the Martial World.
If she had understood nothing, it would have been fine; perhaps she would have remained foolishly loyal to the Baili Family to the very end.
It was precisely because she had broadened her horizons, learned how big the world was, and how strong the powerful were, that she had sorrowfully realized the Baili Family had no future.
The moment their enemies decided to act, the Baili Family would have absolutely no way to fight back.
And when the nest is overturned, how can any egg remain intact? She had to plan for her own future, and quickly.
Rather than be buried along with the Baili Family, it was better to sell off their young master for a good price.
And now, she finally fell into despair.
’If Baili Jianxin resents me for my betrayal... even Guo Fenghuan died at his hands. I don’t think I can escape.’
’And if Baili Jianxin decides to spare me... that’s even worse.’
’Guo Fenghuan was the Guo Family Ancestor’s most beloved grandson. His death will probably drive the Ancestor mad with rage.’
’Baili Jianxin will be tortured in a hundred different ways, and I’ll probably be doomed right along with him.’
A hand landed on Qing He’s smooth back.
She shuddered, her teeth chattering uncontrollably.
"Don’t be afraid," Du Youqian’s gentle voice sounded beside her ear. "I won’t kill you for now. Take me to the Guo Family Ancestor. If you behave well, I might consider letting you go."
Du Youqian didn’t want to play any more mind games with these people.
’It’s better to just go straight to their doorstep.’
’The mastermind behind the scenes?’
’I’ll just cut them down!’
As for their motives, their supposedly good intentions, or whatever tragic backstory led them down this dark path, he had no interest in knowing.
He just wanted to resolve this trouble as quickly as possible, settle the karma of this body, and then try to get some Elixirs to aid in Body Refining. He’d also see if he could still remotely control the organization he had single-handedly established.
Once he had the Elixirs, he would make one last attempt: to use Human Dao Fortune as an aid and see if he could cultivate a Body Refining Technique.
If the attempt failed, he would just wait for death and his next life.
But if this attempt succeeded, then it seemed this life could still be salvaged.
As long as he could gather enough Magical Power within a year or so to wield his powerful Sword Intent and cut away the poison on his Spirit Root, then he would do his best not to waste this chance at reincarnation.
As for how to deal with that so-called Innate Grandmaster, or the Qi Refining Cultivator behind him...
’I just don’t have enough powerful Sword Intent to cut the poison from my Spirit Root yet.’
’But as for cutting down a Qi Refining Cultivator?’
’Do I need powerful Sword Intent for that?’
’Do I?’
At worst, he could burn his Essence Blood again, lose a few months of his lifespan, and that would be more than enough to cut down a Junior Qi Refining Cultivator.
Just then, a knock came at the door.
"Sir, someone is here to see you. Sir, are you in there?"
Du Youqian glanced down at the corpse, now lying in a pool of blood, and was momentarily speechless. He made a "shushing" gesture to Qing He.
Then he focused his hearing, trying to determine who the people outside were.
Outside, besides an inn attendant, there were two burly men.
Their auras were complex. There was a hint of a murderous air, and also... a bit of an official air.
A thought stirred in Du Youqian’s mind.
’Is this the Imperial City Department of the Qi Kingdom?’
’Or the Jinyiwei of the Wu Kingdom?’
