I Can See Evolution Paths

Arthur studied the three figures carefully. The corrupted Beasts were already spreading around the clearing, their growls becoming louder as they prepared to overwhelm the masked strangers. Yet none of the three showed the slightest sign of hesitation.

Red simply held one hand forward, watching the approaching Beasts with a calm that almost seemed careless. Blue rolled their shoulders before stepping into the snow, while Green adjusted their grip on the greatsword and quietly watched the battlefield.

Arthur’s eyes narrowed slightly.

They weren’t preparing to defend themselves.

They were preparing to hunt.

"They’re not worried," Arthur said quietly.

Vedas kept his spear raised as he watched the three figures. "Neither would I be if I could do what they just did."

Sun glanced toward him. "You sound impressed."

"I am," Vedas admitted. "They’re strong."

Athy remained high above the clearing, carefully watching the surrounding forest. "They’re completely surrounded."

Eden moved closer to Arthur. "Shouldn’t they be worried?"

Arthur smiled as he watched Red take another step forward. "Let’s see."

The first wave of corrupted Beasts suddenly charged.

Red moved first.

They raised one hand, and flames erupted from their palm. Instead of spreading like an ordinary spell, the fire rapidly condensed, gathering around itself until it formed a massive halberd.

The weapon looked almost alive.

Its blade burned with intense orange flames as Red casually caught it in one hand.

Arthur’s eyes immediately brightened.

"A Relic..." Athena murmured.

Red stepped forward. A corrupted Beast lunged. The halberd swept sideways. The blade tore through the Beast, and a burst of fire exploded from the wound. Before the flames could fade, thin strands of lightning suddenly crawled across the halberd’s surface.

Athena’s eyes widened. "It has lightning too?"

Red didn’t answer. They simply changed their grip and swung again. This time, lightning concentrated along the blade instead of fire. The strike tore through another Beast with a thunderous crack, sending sparks across the snow.

Arthur watched carefully. The elements weren’t changing randomly. Red was switching between them in the middle of combat, using whichever property suited the attack.

Sun stared at the battlefield. "That’s a ridiculous weapon."

Mithra smiled faintly. "The weapon is impressive, but look at how naturally they’re using it."

Red stepped around another attack without even looking hurried. Fire followed by lightning. Lightning followed by fire. Each movement was precise, and every strike brought down another corrupted Beast.

Arthur’s eyes remained fixed on the halberd. He wasn’t intimidated. He was studying it.

Before the remaining Beasts could surround Red, Blue stepped forward. "Looks like you’ve had enough fun," Blue said.

Two enormous axes appeared in their hands. Blue immediately charged. The first axe struck a corrupted Beast across the side. The Beast staggered, but instead of simply collapsing, something strange happened.

A faint blue glow spread from the wound.

Arthur noticed it first. The glow wasn’t coming from the Beast. It was being drawn toward the axe.

Athena’s expression changed. "It’s draining its life force."

Blue glanced toward her and laughed. "You figured that out quickly."

Another swing. The Beast weakened further. The blue glow around the axe became brighter.

Mithra narrowed her eyes. "It’s storing the energy."

"Exactly."

Blue struck another Beast. Then another. Each attack made the axes brighter until both weapons were glowing with an intense blue light.

Sun stared. "They’re using the Beasts to charge the weapon."

Blue suddenly crossed both axes. "Now for the fun part."

The accumulated energy exploded outward.

BOOOOOOM!

A massive blue shockwave tore through the battlefield, throwing several corrupted Beasts through the snow and sending chunks of ice flying.

Sun’s mouth fell open. "They turned their enemies’ strength into an attack."

Kong clenched his fists. "Strong."

Sun immediately looked at him. "Don’t get any ideas."

Kong grinned. "I already have ideas."

Sun sighed. "Of course you do."

Green finally moved. Unlike Red and Blue, they didn’t rush toward the nearest Beast. They simply raised the greatsword and waited.

The air around the weapon began to change. Wind gathered around the blade. Snow lifted from the ground, slowly at first, before beginning to spiral faster and faster around Green’s body. Within seconds, an entire vortex of snow surrounded them.

A corrupted Beast charged through the storm.

Green swung. The greatsword cut through the Beast, while the wind followed the blade and carried thousands of pieces of snow through the air like sharpened needles.

Athy’s golden eyes widened. "That’s a lot of wind."

Another Beast suddenly leaped toward Green from behind. Its jaws opened and clamped down.

Everyone expected the attack to connect.

Instead, the Beast passed straight through Green.

Athy stared. "It went through them!"

Green’s body had become translucent, almost as though it had been transformed into the wind surrounding them.

Athena’s expression changed immediately. "An elemental transformation..."

The Beast landed behind Green. Green turned. One clean slash sent the Beast crashing into the snow.

Eden looked toward Arthur. His eyes were shining. She sighed. "You’re interested again."

Arthur didn’t look away. "Very."

Eden shook her head. "I knew it."

The remaining corrupted Beasts suddenly stopped retreating. For several seconds, they simply stared at the three men. Then they attacked together.

Arthur immediately noticed the change. "They’re going to attack together."

Athena watched carefully. "And the three figures know it."

Red raised the halberd. Blue lifted both axes. Green lowered the greatsword. None of them spoke. They didn’t need to.

Red moved first. Fire erupted across the battlefield, followed by streaks of lightning that raced through the flames.

Blue stepped into the attack and struck several weakened Beasts. The axes absorbed the remaining energy, growing brighter with every hit.

Then Green moved. The greatsword swept through the air, creating a massive vortex that pulled the flames, lightning, and blue energy into itself.

Sun stared. "They’re combining their attacks?"

Vedas’s expression became serious. "They’ve done this before."

The vortex grew larger. Red’s flames twisted through it. Blue’s stored energy surged into the center. Green’s wind compressed everything together.

Arthur’s eyes widened slightly. "They’re not just fighting together." He watched the three figures move as though they had practiced the attack countless times. "They know exactly what the others are going to do."

The combined attack exploded.

BOOOOOOOOOOM!

Snow erupted into the sky. Trees shook violently. The ground cracked beneath the force. For several seconds, the entire clearing disappeared beneath the explosion.

Then the snow began falling.

One by one, the corrupted Beasts collapsed.

The battlefield was completely clear.

Sun stared at the three men. "They’ve done that before."

Athena nodded slowly. "Many times."

Vedas watched silently, eventually tightening his grip around his spear. "They’re Silver Rank Beast Tamers."

Arthur looked at him. "You’ll get there."

Vedas glanced at Arthur. "You say that as if it’s easy."

Arthur smiled. "It is."

Athena continued watching the three figures even after the battlefield had gone quiet. Something about their Relics bothered her. Not because they were powerful. Because they were too refined.

Red could shift between fire and lightning without disrupting their movements. Blue wasn’t merely draining life energy; they were storing and releasing it at precisely the right moment. Green’s elemental transformation was even more unusual.

Mithra noticed Athena’s expression. "What is it?"

Athena remained silent for another moment before answering. "Those aren’t ordinary Relics."

Mithra looked toward the three weapons. "What makes you say that?"

Athena pointed toward Red. "They aren’t simply activating their Relics’ abilities." Then she looked toward Blue. "They’re controlling them." Finally, her gaze settled on Green. "Almost as naturally as they control their own bodies."

Sun frowned. "And that means?"

Athena’s expression became serious. "They might be Awakened."

Mithra’s eyes narrowed. "Awakened..."

Arthur didn’t hear this, too caught up in watching the fight. He saw Red protect one of the unconscious students, Blue stabilize another, and Green destroy a Beast trying to approach.

Another massive attack erupted across the clearing. Star immediately trembled in Arthur’s arms and squeezed itself against his chest.

Arthur looked down. "You’re scared?"

Star gave a tiny wiggle.

Eden looked down at it. "Star is definitely scared."

Arthur glanced toward the three men. "I don’t blame it."

Star pressed itself closer. Arthur gently patted its soft body. "But they’re helping us."

Star slowly peeked out from his arms.

Arthur smiled. "See?"

The remaining corrupted Beasts were finally dealt with and the battlefield grew quiet as the three figures walked toward them. Arthur looked at Red’s halberd, then Blue’s axes, then Green’s greatsword. His eyes shone with something Sun immediately recognized.

Sun said, "Don’t."

Arthur looked at him. "What?"

Sun pointed toward the three men. "I know that look."

Arthur ignored him and walked forward. "Can I take a closer look at those Relics?"

Everyone paused.

Sun stared. "Seriously?"

Arthur looked confused. "What?"

Sun gestured toward the destroyed battlefield. "They just wiped out an entire group of corrupted Beasts!"

Arthur nodded. "I know." He looked at the weapons again. "That’s why I want to see them."

Blue suddenly laughed. "I like this kid."

Red gave Arthur a brief look, and even Green’s attention lingered on him for a moment.

Red turned their attention toward the unconscious students. "Anyone injured?"

Mithra was already kneeling beside them. "Several. Their injuries aren’t the biggest problem."

Blue knelt beside one student, placing a hand near their chest. Their expression changed. "Their mana is unstable."

Mithra nodded. "The corruption is affecting it."

Blue released a controlled amount of energy, and the student’s breathing stabilized. Melo’s tails moved gently around them. "They’re calming down."

Mithra smiled slightly. "Good."

Green finally turned toward Arthur. "What happened here?"

Arthur gave them a quick explanation. He told them about the explosion, how everyone had been separated, how they discovered the students, and how the corrupted Beasts had attacked them.

The three men listened without interrupting.

But when Arthur mentioned the purple corruption, their reactions changed.

Red’s expression became noticeably more serious. Blue’s relaxed smile disappeared. Green looked toward the fallen Beasts scattered across the snow.

Arthur noticed immediately. They know something.

Red finally spoke. "So you’ve seen the purple phenomenon too."

Arthur paused. "Too?"

For a brief moment, none of the three answered. Blue glanced toward Red. Green remained silent.

Arthur narrowed his eyes. That one word had told him more than Red probably intended. Greenroot had seen the purple corruption before.

"We’re Greenroot Agents," Red said. "And we’ve seen the purple phenomenon too."

Athena paused. "It showed up in other areas as well?"

Red didn’t immediately answer. The agents explained that they had entered the northern Everglades as part of an ongoing Greenroot investigation. They had already encountered abnormal mana disturbances and Beasts behaving strangely. There had also been unexplained disappearances, ancient structures buried beneath the region, and areas where the environment itself seemed to behave incorrectly.

Athena immediately became interested. "How long have you been investigating this place?"

Red looked toward the forest. "Long enough."

Arthur raised an eyebrow. "That’s not a number."

Blue laughed. "He’s sharp."

Red gave Blue a brief look. "We don’t need to tell him everything."

Arthur smiled. "Fair enough."

Athena frowned slightly but didn’t press further.

Arthur, however, kept thinking about what Red had said. Abnormal mana. Disappearances. Ancient structures. Those weren’t isolated problems. Something was happening throughout the Everglades. And Greenroot had apparently been investigating it long before Arthur arrived.

Arthur eventually looked toward the three agents. "Were you here when the explosion happened?"

Red nodded. "We were."

Arthur’s eyes narrowed. "Then you might have seen what caused it."

The three agents became quiet. Blue’s expression lost its usual amusement. Green looked toward the distant forest.

"We saw the beginning," Green said.

Arthur waited. "And the end?"

Green didn’t answer.

Red finally spoke. "We didn’t see it."

Arthur’s expression became thoughtful. So even Greenroot didn’t know exactly what had happened. That only made the explosion more interesting.

Green looked toward the forest again. "Afterward, the Everglades changed."

Athena immediately asked, "Changed how?"

Green’s answer was quiet. "The disturbances became stronger."

Nobody said anything after that, the weight of the admission settling over the clearing longer than any answer before it, and that was all they revealed.

Red looked toward the unconscious students. "They need somewhere safe."

Mithra agreed. "They won’t survive out here for long."

Red looked toward Arthur. "We have a temporary safe zone nearby."
