Splash!!

A bucket of cold water crashed over the young man tied to a wooden chair, soaking his clothes and sending a violent shiver through his body. It was the tenth bucket, yet his stubbornness remained intact.

His heavy eyelids struggled to open as icy water dripped down his face. The only thing visible through his blurred vision was a tiny window covered by a thin piece of cloth, allowing a sliver of daylight into the otherwise suffocating room.

The room itself was deliberately bare.

Stone walls stained with age, a damp floor, and a single lantern hanging from the ceiling were all that surrounded him. Every inch of the place had been designed to strip away comfort until only despair remained.

"Wake up, sleepy head."

Standing directly opposite the restrained prisoner, Ethen lazily rested a whip over his shoulder. His expression remained calm, almost bored, as though interrogating people had become just another routine task.

Who would have thought that while searching the city for clues, one of the people he was looking for would practically deliver himself into his hands?

Not only that, but the fool had confidently claimed to be from his own family.

"You..."

The young man slowly lifted his head.

His bloodshot eyes were filled with frustration, hatred, and a trace of fear that continued growing no matter how desperately he tried to suppress it.

It made no sense.

Every instinct screamed at him to look away from Ethen. Even maintaining eye contact for more than a few seconds made his heart pound uncontrollably.

That irrational terror wasn’t natural.

It was the combined effect of Ethen’s Fear Monger ability and the lingering influence of Blood Pact. Together, the two abilities transformed ordinary interrogation into psychological warfare.

Ethen barely needed to raise his voice.

Just a few calculated cuts from the whip, a measured amount of blood, and the prisoner would begin imagining horrors far worse than anything Ethen had actually done.

Fear was often far more effective than pain. Pain faded. Fear lingered. And once fear rooted itself deep enough, it became almost impossible to erase.

Yonai had already reached that stage.

"Yonai Algar."

"Son of the First Elder of the Algar Clan."

"A Tier Eight Summoner with the dual class... Shadow Stalker."

Slowly circling behind the chair, Ethen casually flipped through the file in his hand. Obtaining Yonai’s name had been easy. Everything else had been supplied by White Tower.

His family.

Combat history.

Known associates.

Past missions.

Even his personal habits.

Every page added another piece to the puzzle sitting before him.

"You betrayed us."

Yonai forced the words through gritted teeth.

"The only result... will be your death when the Leader ascends."

Despite speaking boldly, he couldn’t bring himself to meet Ethen’s eyes.

Every time he tried, that suffocating feeling returned.

It was as though standing before him wasn’t a human being but a predator patiently waiting for permission to devour its prey.

"Betrayed?"

Ethen chuckled.

"I didn’t betray anyone."

He allowed the tip of his whip to drag slowly across the floor, producing a sharp scraping sound that made Yonai’s body tense instinctively.

"In fact..."

"I’m here under the Clan Leader’s direct orders."

"He wanted to know whether you’d finally decided to cooperate."

A faint smile appeared on Ethen’s face.

"So tell me..."

"Are you ready to break?"

Yonai’s breathing became uneven.

He still believed Ethen belonged to the same organization.

That misunderstanding was too valuable to throw away.

As long as Yonai continued believing Ethen was merely testing his loyalty, he’d reveal far more than he intended.

Whip!!

The crack echoed violently throughout the room.

A scream followed immediately afterward.

Outside the interrogation room, the sound barely caused anyone to look up anymore.

Everyone had grown accustomed to it.

Stacks of files covered the large table in the apartment while several members busied themselves organizing reports arriving from different surveillance teams.

Ever since Ethen returned on the second day with Yonai in tow, the investigation had advanced at an astonishing pace.

One clue had become several.

Several had become dozens.

Every answer uncovered another hidden connection.

Right now, White Tower operatives were quietly tracking every known member of the Algar Clan throughout Blackwater City.

Normally, investigating one of the city’s noble families would have been almost impossible.

Their influence stretched across businesses, government offices, mercenary groups, and even parts of the military.

They knew how to erase trails.

They knew how to silence witnesses.

But evidence changed everything.

Once a crack appeared in their carefully maintained image, following the trail became significantly easier.

"Ehnnnn..."

"Did you guys know Ethen was actually this good at torture?"

Fin leaned back in his chair while glancing nervously toward the closed door.

Another scream escaped from inside.

Someone else silently continued reading without bothering to answer him.

Truthfully, Ethen had already extracted a surprising amount of information.

Most of it consisted of scattered details. Names. Meeting locations. Small routines. Pieces that seemed insignificant individually.

Together, however, they painted a much clearer picture.

Especially regarding the three figures hiding behind everything.

The true masterminds.

One was almost certainly the Leader of the Algar Clan.

Another was undoubtedly the mysterious foreigner whose appearance had remained hidden throughout the investigation.

The third...

That was where things became interesting.

Yonai had accidentally revealed information he never intended to share.

Not a name. Not a face. Just enough. The third conspirator wasn’t an outsider. He had lived in Blackwater City long before everything began.

He had a wife.Children. Ahousehold established years earlier. Someone with deep roots. That single detail eliminated countless possibilities.

Blackwater City wasn’t overflowing with Tier Five summoners capable of orchestrating massacres while remaining hidden.

In fact, only a handful fit that description.

Their search radius had suddenly become much smaller.

"Hey, Fin."

"Come take over."

"I need some fresh air."

The door opened.

Ethen stepped out without the slightest change in expression.

His whip hung loosely from one hand, dark red stains running along its length before dripping onto the floor.

Without asking any questions, Fin stood up.

"Sure."

He accepted the whip with an awkward smile before disappearing into the room.

The heavy wooden door shut behind him.

Almost immediately...

Another scream echoed through the apartment.

Ethen didn’t react. Instead, he quietly walked toward the exit.

Soft footsteps followed behind him.

"Why did you ask me to come with you?"

Hela finally broke the silence as they walked through the streets together.

She had been observing Ethen for days now.

Ever since obtaining the Blood Tyrant class, something about him had changed.

Not physically, Mentally.

She understood that classes often influenced their users.

Her own Black Reaper class had gradually made her colder than before. Detached.

More comfortable with silence than conversation.

For reasons she couldn’t explain, she had also developed an unusual fondness for the color black.

Those changes had happened slowly.

Naturally.

Ethen’s transformation felt different. Sharper. More immediate.

He had become decisive to the point of ruthlessness.

Every step he took seemed calculated. Every word carried quiet confidence.

Even the way he observed people made it seem as though he were constantly evaluating their usefulness.

There was something else too.

A faint trace of cruelty lingered behind his eyes.

Not uncontrolled bloodlust.

Not madness.

Simply the calm gaze of someone who no longer hesitated when difficult decisions needed to be made.

"He mentioned a name."

Ethen smiled without slowing his pace.

"I’m fairly certain you’ve met the person before."

"So I figured..."

"Why not bring the expert?"

Hela raised an eyebrow.

Before she could ask another question, Ethen came to a stop outside a modest storefront squeezed between two older buildings.

Unlike the surrounding shops, this one appeared unusually quiet despite the busy street.

No customers entered. None left.

The sign above the entrance swayed gently with the afternoon breeze. Ethen lifted his eyes toward it.

"It’s here."

His gaze settled on the store as the faint smile on his face slowly disappeared.
