I Carry a Game World With Me
Chapter 241 - 222: Impossible! Unless It’s a GodChapter 241: Chapter 222: Impossible! Unless It’s a God
"Understood," Linda immediately replied to Aubens.
In truth, he was already losing his nerve.
’After all, for three straight days, the new bank has exchanged over 200 tons of gold, hasn’t it?’
’How many people do they even have?’
If this kept up, Aubens’s plan would go up in smoke. That was why he, too, wanted to know how much gold Baguda had left.
After hanging up, Linda started making a series of calls to Liping, trying to dig up information.
「Liping City.」
「Inside the conference hall.」
Lu Feng suddenly instructed Baguda, "Go outside. Someone from the inside should be asking about our gold reserves soon. Tell them we have a little over 100 tons left, and that the gold was mined from the earth."
’If you’re going to play, you might as well play a bigger game.’
’Aubens hasn’t committed all the funds in his accounts yet. We have to make him throw everything in, don’t we?’
Baguda was visibly stunned by Lu Feng’s words.
’How does he know someone on the inside will be asking about this?’
’I gave explicit orders that no one was to make such inquiries.’
’Besides, we still have over 500 tons of gold.’
However, he didn’t question it. He could guess some of the reasons, but this was still incredible. It was as if this man had everything under his control.
He went out and had someone make inquiries, and sure enough, people were asking about their remaining gold tonnage.
It was just as he had said.
He immediately had his men spread the word: they had just over 100 tons of gold left, and it had been mined from the earth.
The news quickly reached Linda.
"They actually have over 300 tons of gold? Where on earth did they get it?" Linda was astonished. He immediately placed a video call to Aubens.
As soon as the call connected, Linda reported, "I’ve found out the situation. They have over 100 tons of gold left, and it was mined from the earth!"
Upon hearing this, Aubens had an epiphany. "No wonder they have so much gold. If they only have a little over 100 tons left, they’re finished."
With that, he hung up and ordered his traders, "Increase our capital investment! Give them the finishing blow!"
The traders immediately got to work on their screens, drawing up funding plans and keying in the numbers.
When they were done, one of the lead traders looked to Aubens. "Mr. Aubens, please confirm the capital transfer."
They were his traders; while they could authorize smaller fund transfers on their own, any large amount required Aubens’s personal confirmation, especially when it involved billions or even tens of billions.
Aubens nodded at his words and pressed a key on the keyboard in front of him.
His computer was the master terminal; only it could be used to authorize large capital movements.
After hitting ’confirm,’ a cold smirk spread across his face. ’With only a little over 100 tons of gold left, they won’t last a single day against my assault.’
But just as Aubens was savoring the thought, he sensed that the atmosphere in the room was off.
His traders were all staring at him, stunned. Every single one of them had a strange look in their eyes.
"What is it?" Aubens asked, puzzled.
The lead trader immediately said, "Mr. Aubens, you went all-in!"
"What?" Aubens froze.
He knew what "all-in" meant, of course—committing all of one’s capital. It was a move reserved for desperate, do-or-die situations, or for when you wanted to crush an opponent in one fell swoop.
’But what a joke! The Xuanfeng Alliance, with their meager funds and only a hundred-odd tons of gold remaining, didn’t warrant such a move at all.’
’I must have hit the wrong key. How strange. I’m never this careless.’
Still, he couldn’t admit to making such a rudimentary error. He could only feign confidence and say, "It makes no difference. The end result is the same: we crush them!"
At that same moment, a smile played on Lu Feng’s lips as he listened to the voice coming from his Bluetooth earpiece.
’There’s no escape now.’
’So there was no need to be too hasty or too obvious.’
’Letting Xiaozhi work a little magic at the critical moment was all it took.’
Then, Lu Feng summoned Red Lizard and gave him an order. "I have a mission for you. That man Aubens is incredibly audacious, so let’s indulge him. Also, have Dali take care of something. We’ve kept him on the sidelines for long enough; it’s time to let him in on the action."
...
In the days that followed, the Xuanfeng Alliance’s new bank continued to exchange currency for gold.
As more and more people successfully exchanged their money for gold, public opinion of the Xuanfeng Alliance shifted dramatically. Perhaps, they thought, being a citizen of the Xuanfeng Alliance wasn’t so bad after all.
Everything seemed to be improving.
But clearly, Aubens’s short-selling assault continued. The storm of exchanges didn’t let up; in fact, the more people who got their gold, the more anxious those who hadn’t yet exchanged became.
They were afraid the gold would run out before they got their turn.
In the shadows, Aubens was counting down the days until the Xuanfeng Alliance’s collapse. The moment their remaining 100 tons of gold were gone would be the moment of their demise.
But soon, Aubens sensed something was wrong.
Because even after his projections showed that the 100 tons of gold should have been depleted, he saw that the Xuanfeng Alliance’s gold exchanges hadn’t stopped.
"Impossible. How do they still have gold?" Aubens felt a sense of unease as the reports came in.
The lead trader beside him immediately said, "Mr. Aubens, perhaps this is the last of it."
Aubens frowned and nodded.
But after another day passed, the gold exchanges still hadn’t stopped.
He finally understood completely. They had far more than 300 tons of gold. The information Linda had given him was false.
Aubens immediately started a video call with Linda.
The video connected quickly, but the scene on the other end made his brow furrow tightly.
It wasn’t just Linda on the screen. There were several other men in military uniforms, all glaring at him like tigers eyeing their prey.
Linda himself had been captured, his body bound with ropes.
"You’re Aubens?" Dali demanded, his face thick with killing intent as he stared at the man on the screen.
It wasn’t hard for him to guess the man’s identity; this was the mastermind behind the whole affair.
If not for that certain someone’s incredible methods—procuring all that gold and orchestrating this entire play—who knows what kind of devastation this man would have wrought upon their economy.
Clearly, he was beginning to feel a grudging respect for that man. As long as the crisis was averted and the people benefited, not much else mattered.
Aubens’s expression changed the instant he saw this. He immediately understood: Linda had walked into a trap, and he himself had been fed false information.
He hastily ended the video call.
Seeing this, Dali turned and punched Linda, snarling, "You treacherous piece of filth. Get ready to rot in a cell for the rest of your life."
"You... what proof do you have?" Linda asked, his face pale.
"Proof? It’s all on this USB drive. Your conversations with Aubens, the transactions you made, everything." Dali gave Linda another vicious punch, knocking him out cold.
The evidence on the USB drive had also been provided by that man. Although Dali had no idea how he had obtained it, that didn’t stop Dali’s current fury, and he didn’t pull his punches.
Meanwhile, after Aubens hung up the video call, his expression was darker than thunder.
Based on the current situation, the information he’d received was obviously fake. His opponent had far more than 300 tons of gold; they were setting a trap for him.
He didn’t dare hesitate, immediately ordering his traders, "Quick, pull out our funds! We’ll retreat for now and wait for an opportunity to strike back!"
Hearing his command, the traders didn’t dare hesitate, and they all scrambled to execute the order on their computers.
Then, one after another, cries of alarm rang out:
"Mr. Aubens, something’s wrong! It’s like the network is down! I can’t access my account!"
"It’s not the network! Our accounts are locked! We can’t withdraw any funds!"
"How is this possible?"
Aubens rushed to a computer and frantically tried to access the system himself. As they’d said, the accounts were completely unresponsive. ’This shouldn’t be possible,’ he thought. ’My accounts are special; they can’t be compromised.’
Suddenly, he felt the chilling presence of a vast conspiracy.
’Did they have Linda feed me false information just to get me to commit all of my capital and trap me in this unwinnable situation?’
’That’s impossible.’
’How could they possibly know when I was planning to pull my funds?’
’Besides, my accounts are special. They shouldn’t even be traceable.’
And yet, their sudden 1:2 gold exchange offer, this whole series of events... it all clearly pointed back to them.
Aubens’s face was deathly pale. If he couldn’t pull out his capital fast, he was utterly finished.
The other side was using the 1:2 gold exchange to increase the value of their currency. But that value couldn’t be created from thin air; the economic gap had to be filled from somewhere.
Otherwise, wouldn’t every country just raise its currency’s value whenever it felt like it?
That’s impossible.
And his capital was about to...
Aubens didn’t dare to think about it. The moment he did, he began to suspect he had been played like a fiddle the entire time, as if his opponent knew his every move.
But how was that possible? The Xuanfeng Alliance couldn’t possibly have someone like that.
Not even a coalition of the world’s most renowned economic experts could have predicted his every move. It was impossible... unless they were a god.
Just as Aubens was lost in thought, he suddenly noticed a commotion outside the window.
Then, he watched as the windowpanes shattered.
The scene that followed made Aubens’s eyes widen in absolute horror.
