Chapter 285: Chapter 263: Truly Black-Hearted!
He had given the order, so they just had to get it done.
After the two had left, Lu Feng’s consciousness entered the game once more.
Lin Jiao and her people had already cleaned up the battlefield and were preparing to burn the corpses of the Beastman Race and Cannibal Race members.
Lu Feng saw this and stopped them at once, saying, "Send the corpses of the Beastman Race and the Cannibal Race to the City East Alliance and the Flame Emperor to take credit for the kill. Since he gave us full control over the East Suburb Fortress, we need to show our strength, don’t we?"
"Also, send someone to the City East Alliance to spread the word. Just say that we at the East Suburb Fortress aren’t afraid of the Beastman Race. If they’ve got the guts to come to the East Suburb Alliance, I’ll annihilate them. No matter how many they send, I’ll wipe them all out."
Lin Jiao and the others were stunned to hear this, and they grew worried.
"Boss, you’re provoking the Beastman Race."
"That’s right. The Beastman Race will start targeting us."
"..."
"Just do as I say. When the time comes, we’ll see who’s targeting whom!"
Lu Feng said decisively. He knew this would undoubtedly infuriate the Beastman Race, but that was his exact intention.
After all, the Cannibal Race and the Beastman Race were worth a lot of experience points.
The crucial part was his special game-like view; whenever members of the Beastman Race or Cannibal Race appeared, he would know their exact location.
Besides, he knew one thing for certain: he wouldn’t be facing a large-scale Beastman Race army.
The reason was simple: once he spread this news, the Flame Emperor would certainly have his men keep a constant watch on the East Suburb. After all, the area was tied to the City East Alliance’s food supply.
Therefore, if the Beastman Race mobilized a large-scale army, their movements would be impossible to hide, and the City East Alliance would surely intervene to stop them.
The Flame Emperor might even seize the opportunity to use the East Suburb Fortress as bait to lure out the Beastman Race.
Thus, the only ones who could make it into the East Suburb Fortress would be small squads like the one this time, which would just become more experience for him to reap.
’If I can find the Beastman Race’s main nest, and then wait for Feisen and Fire Silica to get a nuke... just one blast... how much experience would that be worth?’
Hearing the certainty in Lu Feng’s command, Lin Jiao nodded as well.
She knew her boss had his reasons, so she didn’t press the issue. After all, he had never been wrong before.
Lu Feng exited the game again. No sooner had he returned to the real world than he received a call from Black Snake. "President Lu, I’m bringing someone to see you. And, the situation may be rather serious."
"Bring them over." It was the first time Lu Feng had heard Black Snake speak so gravely. He figured it must be something truly important.
On the other end of the line, Black Snake hung up the phone, walked out of the main hall, and saw a middle-aged man from Dragon Country.
"Mr. Black Snake, how did it go?" the middle-aged man asked anxiously.
"President Liu, come with me," Black Snake said, beckoning to the man before heading toward Wind Manor.
President Liu hurried to keep up, a glimmer of hope appearing in his eyes.
He had come to the Xuanfeng Alliance to take on subcontracted projects for large infrastructure companies. He had only sought out Mr. Black Snake out of desperation, having heard from some peers that this man had a connection to the Governor of the Xuanfeng Alliance.
Before long, Black Snake brought President Liu to Lu Feng.
President Liu was astonished when he saw Lu Feng. ’This is the legendary Governor of the Xuanfeng Alliance?’
’He’s actually from Dragon Country, and so young?’
"Black Snake, what’s going on?" Lu Feng asked, puzzled.
Black Snake immediately made the introduction. "Governor, this is President Liu, the owner of an engineering company from Dragon Country. President Liu, please tell the Governor the specifics of your situation."
In public, Black Snake’s way of addressing Lu Feng had obviously changed. He no longer called him President Lu, but Governor.
Though shocked, President Liu didn’t dare hesitate. He said urgently, "His Excellency the Governor, you must get justice for us! I was contracted to build the ring road around Wind Capital. Because of an accident, many members of my construction crew were injured and had to be treated at the hospital."
"But after the treatment, the hospital’s fees were completely unreasonable. They were just superficial injuries, yet the hospital claimed to have performed some kind of surgery—I didn’t even recognize the medical term—and wanted one million Xuanfeng Coins."
"After my employees were treated, there were even floor fees, departmental consultation fees... a dozen different types of charges! The medical bill for a little over ten people with minor injuries came to more than five million in Dragon Country currency! If we don’t pay by the deadline, they’re threatening to sue us and force payment."
Upon hearing this, Lu Feng looked to Black Snake and asked, "Is this true?"
Now he understood why Black Snake had said the situation was serious. What a fucking joke. Charging over five million for more than ten *serious* injuries would be outrageously corrupt, let alone for minor ones.
’If this is true, then someone has a death wish.’
He was working hard to develop the Xuanfeng Alliance, and some asshole was pulling this kind of shit. If this was true, and word got back to his home country or out to the international community, the Xuanfeng Alliance’s reputation would be toast.
It was like all those tourism directors back home who would work tirelessly to promote their regions online, only for some old lady to block a road and extort a toll fee, instantly ruining the area’s reputation. All their promotional efforts would be for nothing.
"Mm-hmm," Black Snake nodded.
"Let’s go. We’ll see for ourselves." Lu Feng’s face was dark. This was something he had to investigate personally.
Soon, Lu Feng arrived at the central hospital with Black Snake and Hadona. This was the hospital where President Liu’s people had been treated.
When Lu Feng entered, he found the hospital surprisingly calm. A quick scan of the area revealed nothing abnormal, not until a weeping couple entered.
On a gurney being rushed in, a very cute little girl lay with her head covered in blood, obviously severely injured. The couple must be her parents.
The little girl’s eyes were shut tight. She was adorable, and perhaps because of this, Lu Feng instinctively used his detection watch to scan her.
But the result made him frown: "Apologies. Target shows no vital signs. The window for rescue has passed."
In other words, the little girl was already dead and couldn’t be revived.
Just then,
a doctor hurried out. After briefly examining the girl, he actually said to the couple, "The child’s injuries are extremely severe. She must be taken into emergency surgery immediately. Go and pay the medical and surgical fees now."
With that, the doctor had the girl wheeled away.
An attendant immediately approached the couple. "Sir, ma’am, please proceed to pay the fees right away."
The couple didn’t dare hesitate and immediately followed to pay.
Lu Feng’s brow furrowed instantly.
The little girl had no vital signs. It was impossible for that doctor not to have noticed. He should have begun emergency resuscitation right away and informed them of the situation, not nonchalantly wheeled the patient away while telling the parents to go pay the fees.
He refused to believe that the doctor couldn’t even make that simple a diagnosis.
’If he couldn’t tell, he’s just an incompetent quack. But if he could tell...’
Lu Feng led Black Snake to follow the doctor, watching as he wheeled the little girl into an operating room.
Arriving outside the operating room, Lu Feng once again aimed his detection watch at the interior. Thermal images of figures inside immediately appeared on its display.
But upon seeing the scene presented by the thermal imaging, Lu Feng’s face became as dark as thunder.
Meanwhile,
in the hospital’s security room, a guard was staring at a surveillance feed, his expression also growing heavy.
The feed on his screen was of the hallway just outside that very same operating room.
For a hospital’s security room to have a camera specifically dedicated to monitoring a single operating room was obviously suspicious.
"There are some people outside the operating room. They all look like they’re from Dragon Country." The guard immediately grabbed a walkie-talkie and said, "It might be those construction workers from Dragon Country, here to investigate. We may need to deal with them."
