I Conquer Hell and Heaven With 666 Trillion Coins
Chapter 73: Will This Be Enough?Dean hadn’t expected to hear such words from Queen Liana herself.
He was delighted that the Mask of Mist was covering his face. His mouth hung open.
Still, Dean felt he ought to say something, and so he said, "Thank you for the invitation, Your Majesty."
Dean’s words made Liana smile.
To put it plainly, Dean’s assumptions, at least regarding the Evergold family’s desire to use him, were not correct.
It seemed, quite naturally, that everyone here already knew who he was.
It was quite clear from the way Raviel, a woman of exceptional beauty, was looking at Queen Liana, to whom she was reporting.
Even so, the mere fact that Dean was standing right beside Raviel was enough to tell everyone whose side he was on.
"In that case, let us begin the summit meeting," Queen Liana said suddenly.
As soon as she spoke, several bottles of red wine were opened in the meeting hall, and the filled glasses were offered to each of the guests.
No one had touched these glasses, except, of course, Liana.
One could see that strange expression on Liana’s face.
It was only natural for the families to be here. After all, meetings had to be held together to discuss the state of the world and the possibility that the Earth-Realm could collapse at any moment.
Still, there was no rule stating that the Royal Family wouldn’t poison them.
Still, as Dean surveyed his surroundings without moving his head much, he managed to see that no one had reached for those wine-filled glasses, and he took a deep breath and let it out.
He then picked up the wine glass placed in front of him and, without a second thought, tilted it back and emptied the glass in two gulps.
Every pair of eyes in the meeting room turned to Dean instantly.
Whilst Raviel tried to hide her lovely smile with her hand, the strange expression on Queen Liana’s face had vanished.
Queen Liana realised that there was at least one person in this meeting room who trusted him.
After all, even Evergold Family didn’t.
Dean, however, spoke calmly in response to the stares directed at him:
"What? Can’t waste good alcohol, you know? I am British, after all."
The first person to speak in response to Dean’s words was the head of the Eisanwald family.
Although... it would be more accurate to call it a shout:
"KUAHHAHHAHHAHHA! WELL SAID, KID!"
This man, whose hair, beard and moustache had turned completely white with age, immediately grabbed the wine glass in front of him and, unlike Dean, downed it in a single gulp.
His large, muscular frame was constantly straining and stretching the suit he was wearing.
As this man did so, every single person in the rest of the meeting room had also drunk the drinks served to them, some slowly, some quickly.
Queen Liana had merely cast a glance at Dean and nodded her head just once.
With that, the meeting had officially begun.
The first person to speak at the meeting was Emre, the head of the Öztürkhan family.
Emre was a tall man with a thick beard, a walking stick in his hand, and who looked to be perhaps forty or forty-five years old.
He didn’t have massive muscles, but it was clear he took care of his physique.
"Together with the separate meetings we’ve held throughout the year with Korea and China, we’ve managed to stabilise the crime and drug situation in Asia and have succeeded in preventing many incidents," Emre said at the outset.
"Nevertheless, it seems the launch of the BETA phase of Cosmic Terror has turned into a very bad situation for us. The number of people joining the game is increasing every day, and at a rapid pace. Nearly seventy thousand individual players are joining the game every week, and just under half of them manage to survive," Emre added.
"The worst part isn’t that more people are joining the game. That’s actually quite a good thing for our Earth-Realm, as you can imagine. However, the real issue is the emergence of more criminals, and the fact that these criminals are actually the players themselves," Emre had said, before falling silent.
Surprisingly, the first person to speak after his silence was Dean:
"Do you have any statistical data on the rise in crime rates?"
In response to Dean’s question, Emre shook his head immediately and said, "Yes. An increase of almost 70%."
"Unbelievable," replied Dean, before saying something unexpected:
"So, what can we do about this?"
As was clear from everyone’s expressions, no one had expected Dean to ask this question.
The fact that he asked this question meant he had opened the door to their receiving unequivocal support.
This meant they could be granted an INCOMPREHENSIBLY huge amount of support.
In other words, if Emre said the right things, the Öztürkhan family might, at that very moment, have been able to reach the same level as the Evergold family.
The Evergold family, or at least the trio who knew Dean openly, knew full well that Dean was out to do good, rather than feeling stressed.
Or at least, that’s what they thought.
As for Dean, to be honest, he’d chosen to speak up at the start of the meeting simply to avoid sitting there doing nothing.
"We have a group of over twenty thousand summoners under our command, young master Decanus. The only problem is that we cannot increase the wages we pay them. If we manage to offer them an opportunity, plus a bonus, we could at least halve the crime rate in at least thirty Asian countries, and perhaps even bring it down further."
When Emre finally gave his reply, Dean took a deep breath and, raising his wine glass, asked, "May I have another glass?"
He then turned to Emre and asked, "How much is needed?"
Dean’s question came as a shock to everyone.
In their eyes, it was as if Dean were trying to set a limit, to corner Emre.
In reality, however, Dean’s thoughts at that moment were very different from what they imagined:
"I don’t even fucking know how much they pay their employees."
The young man simply had a clear idea; nothing more.
Emre hadn’t even bothered to glance around and had decided it would be better to tell the truth.
He was an honest man.
Perhaps he was the most honest among the heads of the families here.
"Just under two million Nether and Aether coins," Emre had said bluntly.
Of course, the Öztürkhan family were wealthy. They couldn’t compete with the Evergold family, but they were certainly worth five or six million.
Even that was a huge sum for ordinary people.
So a sum of two million... was more money than they could even imagine.
When Dean heard that amount, he took a sip from his already full wine glass, and immediately afterwards withdrew the money from the system.
Ten banknotes, each worth one million.
At that moment, every pair of eyes in the meeting room was fixed on the banknotes.
Raviel’s bright, beautiful smile was directed at Dean.
When Dean saw this, he merely shrugged.
Dean handed the money to one of the butlers standing behind him and said, "Please take these to him."
When the money appeared, absolutely everyone couldn’t help but swallow hard.
"I knew you were rich, Mr Decanus, but this is truly incredible," said Emre as he took the money.
Dean smiled and then, with a touch of smugness, said, "Just some pocket change for me. Trust me, it’s literally nothing to me."
And after that, he didn’t stop. He looked at Emre and said, "Make sure to work clean, sir."
This was not something he was asking; it was almost like an order.
With that, the meeting was set to continue.
When Emre sat back down, the heads of the other families stood up and began to speak, but none of them said anything about the money.
They might have been greedy, but they really didn’t want to cross Dean.
That alone had significantly bolstered the Evergolds’ untouchable status.
The meeting was, in fact, due to end quickly.
After all, this was something that took place four times a year, once per season.
It was nothing more than a meeting to discuss what the countries, families and players had been up to, and how everything was going.
Still, in the end, everything had indeed turned out well.
With this simple gesture of support, Dean had managed to make the first step towards creating an environment in which Asya could at least feel a little safer.
With the Öztürkhan, Long and Haneul families on board, things should have proceeded more smoothly.
Europe remained, but that... was a matter for others to discuss amongst themselves.
To put it briefly, this discussion would take place between the Orlov, de Bellacour, Eisanwald and Evergold families.
And, of course, Dean would have to be the one at the centre of this discussion.
Finally, the Asian families had left the meeting room.
All that remained were the families who had spoken just a moment earlier.
To be honest, Dean didn’t want to join in the conversation because there couldn’t possibly be much he could do here.
After all, he didn’t think there was much he could do apart from handing over his money.
Of course... that wasn’t quite right.
