Thirty banknotes, each worth one million.
This was the sum that could be used to purchase an S-Grade Summon Contract.
Dean knew just how valuable this item was, and, frankly, forming a friendship with the Russians might well help him in the future.
So Dean had absolutely nothing to lose.
Thirty million Nether and Aether coins would be more than enough to enslave another family.
Dean, however, had chosen to spend his money without a care in the world, and had even agreed to pay out of his own pocket.
He had over 600 trillion Nether and Aether coins to spend.
Truly, millions meant nothing to him.
The members of the Orlov family, upon seeing the money, were at a loss for words.
This was, of course, a colossal sum. For Dean, however, it was money he wouldn’t even use to wipe his arse.
"Mr Decanus... this is far more than I asked for." Nikolai had said suddenly.
Dean hadn’t expected him to say that. Nikolai had replied with an honesty that went beyond what was necessary.
The young man could see how the other families looked at him. Apart from the leader of the Öztürkhan family and, of course, the Evergolds, no one treated Dean with such decency and honesty.
The young man had smiled, albeit involuntarily.
"If, by any chance, you ever have a contract like this again in the future, do let me know," Dean had said suddenly.
He’d spoken a few words as if he’d already paid in advance, and even that was a relief to the rest of the Orlov family.
"As you wish," said Nikolai. There was no need to describe the smile that had formed on his face.
The middle-aged man reached straight into his inventory and pulled the contract itself out.
Dean was surprised when he saw the contract.
It was a contract made of jet-black parchment. Written on it in red letters were the following words:
[I, ’#####’, of my own free will, swear to submit to my master’s command and to remain loyal to him until the end of my existence, the last fragment of my soul, and the very end of time.
I consent to my soul being annihilated by the Creator Himself for any wrongdoing or lies I commit.
I swear that, come what may, I shall protect my master (my lord) with my very being and soul, and that I shall continue my duties even when death claims me.]
Items of S-Grade and above were not regarded as ordinary items throughout the Aether, Nether and Earth Realms.
They were a direct part of the rules established by the Creator of Chaos.
Therefore, an item reaching S-Grade level, or being created as such, did not merely signify that it was more powerful.
That item possessed the authority to interfere with the natural order of the three Realms.
And amongst these, one of the most dangerous was the S-Grade Summon Scroll.
At first glance, this contract appeared to be nothing more than a summoning or binding parchment.
However, its true function was very different indeed.
When an S-Grade Summon Scroll was used, the user could bring an Angel from the Aether or a Demon from the Nether under their protection.
The entity brought under their protection was obliged to act on the user’s command.
Whether it was an ordinary Demon or a high-ranking Angel, and whether it was a being that had lived for thousands of years or a dreaded monster from the depths of the Nether.
The moment the contract was finalised, the balance of power between them shifted.
The Summoner’s command took precedence over the will of the entity bound by the contract, as the rules governing the Nether-Realm and the Aether-Realm dictated this.
However, there was a price to pay.
For an S-Grade contract was not merely an agreement between two parties.
It was a rule recognised by Chaos itself, or sometimes, although it is rare, it was a rule that was simply being recognised by the item itself.
Like Spear of Dawn accepting and recognising Dean himself.
The existence of Aether and Nether was bound by countless laws within their respective realms. Both Realms had their own order, their own hierarchy and their own rules.
Yet above all these, there was a single truth.
The rules of the Creator, Chaos.
These rules could not be transgressed. They could not be violated. They could not be bent. And most importantly, they could not be overcome.
The contract of the S-Grade Summon Scroll was one of these absolute rules.
The moment the contract was established, it was etched into the souls of both the Summoner and the entity taken under their protection. The agreement no longer remained a mere written text but became an integral part of their very existence.
For this reason, breaching any clause of the contract was not regarded as a simple act of betrayal or breaking one’s word.
It was a violation of a law laid down by Chaos, and the punishment for breaking Chaos’s rules was not even death.
For death still allowed a being to leave a trace behind.
A soul might fall into the Nether, the soul of an Angel might be reborn in the Aether, a body might cease to exist, but its name and past would live on in the memory of another.
Under the punishment of Chaos’s rules, however, none of this was permitted.
The existence of anyone who knowingly breached the contract would be erased. Not just their body, not just their soul, not just their name...
That person’s past, future, spiritual trace, energy and all their connections in the world, everything, would vanish, as if that being had never been created.
No grave would remain for the person who had once been there.
No spiritual trace would remain.
No record would remain.
Nothing.
And this rule did not apply solely to the Nether or the Aether.
A human living in the Earth Realm would also fall under the same laws the moment they entered into a contract with an S-Grade Summon Contract.
The Realms might differ.
How the rules were applied might differ.
But the absolute laws laid down by Chaos were the same everywhere.
That is why the power of an S-Grade contract was not merely about controlling the protected Angel or Demon.
The true power...
Lied in the contract itself.
For that parchment bore the seal of a single authority standing above the three Realms.
Chaos’s.
To break a contract accepted by Chaos was not, as one might say, simply to break a normal agreement, but to violate a law belonging to the Creator Himself.
For this reason, there was but one saying regarding S-Grade and higher items:
"Before you use them, do not think of their power. Think of their rules."
Because power could be misused.
A weapon could be broken.
A pill could be laced with poison in some way.
A document could be burnt.
A potion could be consumed.
But a rule laid down by Chaos...
It could never be broken.
And anyone who tried to break it would be wiped from existence along with it.
Dean, however, had managed to get his hands on exactly such a thing. What he held was no ordinary object.
This object might well be considered as valuable as the Spear of Dawn, or perhaps even more so.
An S-Grade Summoning Contract.
It was of unimaginable value.
This wasn’t a matter of Nether and Aether coins; it was a matter of genuine, physical and spiritual value.
The members of the Orlov family might not have realised it, but if such a contract were offered to the right people, it could fetch as much as a hundred million Nether and Aether coins.
Of course, finding such people would require a different kind of discernment and skill.
Dean had taken the contract in his hand and then stowed it away in his inventory.
He wanted to check the ’Properties’ section directly to ensure there were no errors:
[S-Grade Summon Scroll
Almost the highest grade an item can reach. Beyond this, it can capture divinity itself, but for now it shall be lower than that.
This item can be used only ONCE.
This item can be used on only ONE person.
The person chosen by the user can be an Angel, a Demon or a Human.]
Dean closed the information window and looked directly at Nikolai. He then stood up and said, "It has been a great honour to trade with you."
He held out his hand, indicating that he wished to shake hands.
Nikolai smiled in return and said, "Likewise, Mr Decanus. Thank you," as he shook his hand.
Dean left the large, hall-like room and then knocked on the door of each family in turn, amongst whom were members of the Royal Family themselves.
However, no one else held another contract.
Consequently, there was no longer any reason for Dean to remain within Buckingham Palace, and the young man left the Palace immediately, taking the beautiful Raviel with him.
He could now return home, to Scotland, the Isle of Benbecula.
