I Conquer Hell and Heaven With 666 Trillion Coins
Chapter 90: You Earned ItThe white light on the screen slowly faded. For a moment, nothing remained but silence. Then the center of the room began to glow.
A circular formation appeared on the floor. Dean immediately straightened in his chair, yawned a little and then spoke:
"Someone’s coming."
Humphrey smiled and said "Indeed. Just like you."
The formation brightened outside the room.A figure materialized within it. The woman from the examination stumbled forward, catching herself with one hand against the floor.
She was breathing heavily.
Her clothes were torn in several places, her hair was disheveled, and there was dirt across her face. She looked as though she had spent the last several hours running for her life.
And to be honest, she did. Not only on her last puzzle but the ones before that she always ran.
Unlike Dean there were no puzzles that needed her brain power...for her.
She opened the door of the room and stepped in.
She slowly raised her head as her eyes moved around the room.
Then stopped on Dean.
Then Aphrodite.
And lastly, of course, the frog Humphrey.
Her expression immediately became cautious.
"Where am I?" she asked without waiting a second.
Aphrodite smiled from her chair.
"Congratulations, darling. You’ve finished the examination."
The woman looked behind herself. She didn’t know where she was or who those people she was seeing.
There was no valley that she can see.
No dinosaurs.
No trees.
Only the chamber and the people inside of it. A lot of them had wings and she could understand that they were angels.
She slowly stood. Seeing the closed screeny things behind Dean, Humphrey and Aphrodite.
"Is that..." she said.
"Well, yeah, chap!" Humphrey answered.
The woman looked at him.
"You were watching?" she asked, confused. She didn’t think people would watch her trying to survive among the countless dangers she faced.
"Indeed." Humphrey said.
She frowned after hearing his words. Directly looking at Dean she couldn’t do but ask:
"And him?"
She pointed toward Dean. Dean raised an eyebrow. Getting pointed out wasn’t something he expected.
Behind his misty face he was frowning also.
"Me?" he asked.
"You were watching too but your energy is way weaker than the others. What are you?" she asked.
"Yeah, I was watching, so what?" he directly said.
The woman stared at him for another second.
"You finished before me, didn’t you?" she asked.
Dean nodded.
"Obviously." he said. He might’ve respected her talent on the field but literally disliked her the second they talked.
Humphrey’s smile widened.
"Not merely before her, my dear fellow. You completed the entire dungeon in an exceptional amount of time." the frog said.
The woman looked at Dean again.
There was no hostility in her expression. Only curiosity.
"How?" she asked.
Dean shrugged.
"Luck, I guess." he said, didn’t even wanna continue talking.
Humphrey immediately laughed.
"HAH! Luck, he says!"
He tapped his cane against the floor.
"Don’t be modest, sir Decanus. Your performance was exceptional." the frog added to his words.
Dean looked away.
"Whatever." he said.
Aphrodite leaned forward in her chair.
"Come here, darling." she said.
The woman hesitated before approaching.
Aphrodite gestured toward a small pedestal that had appeared beside her. Upon it rested a small glass container filled with several pills.
The pills were pale blue and faintly glowing.
"These are your rewards." she said.
The woman looked at them.
"Cultivation pills?" she said, almost disappointed.
"Indeed."
Humphrey nodded.
"Nothing particularly extraordinary, I’m afraid."
The woman picked up the container and examined it.
"How useful are they?"
Aphrodite shrugged.
"Useful enough to strengthen your cultivation for a short while. Nothing worthy of legendary status."
The woman nodded.
"That’s fine." she said and after that "Thank you, whoever you are." she added.
She carefully put them away. Dean watched the exchange.
"That seems rather underwhelming." he said.
Aphrodite glanced at him.
"Would you like them?" she asked.
"No." Dean replied.
"Then don’t complain." Aphrodite said suddenly.
Dean smiled and said "Fair enough."
Humphrey hopped toward the center of the chamber.
"But now..."
His eyes moved toward Dean.
"It is time for the first-place reward." he said.
Dean immediately became more attentive.
A pedestal rose from the floor in front of him. Something rested upon it.
A scroll.
Unlike ordinary paper, the material seemed almost alive. Dark parchment was wrapped around a silver core, with golden lines running across its surface.
Dean approached slowly.
"What is that?" he asked.
Humphrey smiled.
"Your reward."
Dean picked it up with his left hand and the moment his fingers touched it, a strange sensation traveled through his body.
A system window meterialised in front of him instantly.
[Dungeon Completion Reward
Reward: Legendary-Grade Summon Contract]
Dean’s eyes widened slightly.
"A Summon-Contract." he said.
He couldn’t believe his eyes. The real one he bought from the Orlov family like a month ago.
He now had another one in his palms.
Humphrey nodded.
"A genuine one." he said.
Obviously these things were rare, even in Aether.
Dean carefully examined the scroll. He remembered what such contracts represented.
It wasn’t a simple summoning contract. A legendary-grade one. Something that is rare even in Aether. It seemed Aphrodite, the sole person who built this dungeon worked hard and wanted to give a good prize to a person who came in first.
Humphrey’s smile became mischievous.
The woman glanced at the contract.
"That seems much more valuable than my pills." she said and she was right. It was WAY more valuable than the pills she got.
"It is," Humphrey said cheerfully.
Dean looked at the woman.
"Sorry." he said. He needed to be honest. He legit was sad because of the difference between the prizes.
She shrugged.
"You earned it."
When she said these words Dean directly put the contract in his inventory and after that took three things out.
3 Bottles of Mana Extract.
Something incredibly valuable. Not like a Legendary-Grade Summon Scroll but they still were more valuable than the pills the woman earned.
"Take them." he said.
The woman looked at him, quite confused.
"Pitying me?" she asked.
Dean ise moved his head from right to left saying "No, I just think the one I earned worth more and I am not in need of these Mana Extracts. If we meet in the future again you can remember this moment."
After the woman took the three bottles she put them in her inventory.
Dean looked down at the contract again.
There was something strange about it.
It had more power, like...more pure, better, stronger of a power. It was almost like this contract was the best a living being could handle.
Dean smiled.
"I’m guessing this isn’t something I should waste." he said.
"Most certainly not." Humphrey said. Obviously it wasn’t.
Humphrey tapped his cane against the floor.
"Use it wisely." he added to his words.
Dean carefully tucked the contract away.
"Don’t worry."
After all of this he looked toward the woman once more.
"You did pretty well yourself." he said.
The woman gave him a faint smile and said "So did you."
Aphrodite leaned back into her chair.
"Well, now that both examinations are complete, I suppose there’s nothing left to watch."
Humphrey hopped onto her leg again, saying "Indeed, my lady."
Dean stood. His body was still sore from his own examination, but he felt considerably better than before.
He was lucky Aphrodite healed him already.
The woman also rose to her feet. For a brief moment, the two looked at one another.
Two examinees, two different paths, two very different rewards.
But both had made it through.
Humphrey adjusted his hat.
"Congratulations to you both." he said suddenly, almost bowing to them.
He smiled.
"Though, Decanus..." he said. His face, that tiny frog face suddenly changed, looked way more serious than ever.
Dean looked at him.
"Yes?" he asked, wondering what was wrong.
"Do remember."
Humphrey pointed towards him with the cane he was holding and said:
"The dungeon has given you the contract."
After that his grin suddenly widened and he added to his words once more:
"What you do with it will determine whether receiving it was truly worth being first."
Before Dean could even grasp the meaning of those words, his surroundings were once again enveloped by those streaks of light, and the young man had left Aether in that very moment.
When he opened his eyes again in the real world, he found himself in his room.
It smelled absolutely awful.
He hadn’t spent much time in the dungeon, but after all that running about, he couldn’t help but be drenched in sweat.
His body was truly exhausted, he smelled, and he wanted to rest.
Still, he hadn’t forgotten to step into the large bathroom in his spacious room and give himself a thorough wash.
After this cleaning session, he had finally managed to find a little time to rest.
He hadn’t gone out to tell the servants; he hadn’t bothered with the butlers and hadn’t even called out to Harry and the others.
He had laid his head straight onto his bed and, after tucking himself in, had fallen asleep almost immediately.
