Holding the holy sword in his hand, a familiar feeling swelled in Ethan’s chest.
It had been a very long time since he last held a sword, before returning from the Ascendant Tower, a blade had been practically a necessity in his life.
Ethan looked at the Blade of the Holy Elf and shook his head, he had thought that after coming home, he would never touch a sword again, he never expected fate to play such a trick on him — here he was, gripping a sword once more.
"I will treasure it," he said to Leon.
"I believe you, we will take our leave now."
The surrounding undead had been cleared, normally the elves would stay for a few days to gather Sweet Beets, Honey Sweet Potatoes, and other useful items, but this time Ethan had brought so many goods that they decided to return immediately.
"Zharok, see you next time."
"Have a safe trip."
After a brief farewell, the elves vanished into the depths of the Great Forest, Zharok looked at Ethan, patted his shoulder, and asked, "What are you thinking about?"
"I’m just surprised that there are no humans left in this world, what in the world happened?" Ethan frowned.
"I don’t know either, I’ve studied history for a long time but haven’t found an answer." Zharok shook his head.
Ethan’s heart was full of questions, and he fell deep into thought.
Zharok stretched lazily. "You’ve got your spices and seasonings now, what do you plan to do with them?"
"Meow, meow, I’m so looking forward to it, meow~" Pearl poked its head out of the crate.
Ethan looked at the bags of spices and smiled, the news of humanity’s extinction had shaken him, but there was nothing he could do about it right now, better to focus on the tasks at hand.
"Let’s head back first."
On the way, Ethan turned the ingredients over in his head, pepper, chili powder, Elven Broth, rock salt.
If he used the Elven Broth like chicken stock...
"Then let’s make Fisherman’s Soup."
He took out a few trout from the fish trap and began prepping them, chili powder, Elven Broth, and thinly sliced Sweet Beets went into the pot.
"Meow, Is this enough, meow?" Pearl had found some Garlic Fruits in the forest.
Ethan nodded, minced the Garlic Fruits, and tossed them in as well, then he added the prepped trout and let the pot simmer.
’I wonder how it’ll taste.’
He had the Elven Broth, but this was still an experiment, then again, considering the Cauldron of Blessing’s effects, it should turn out to be a pretty good dish.
A while later—

"Oh."
Fisherman’s Soup with the Delicious effect attached, done.
Zharok and Pearl stared with sparkling eyes at the bubbling, steaming pot of Fisherman’s Soup.
"Hurry up and serve me a bowl, meow~"
"It smells so good!"
"Careful, it’s hot."
Ethan scooped the Fisherman’s Soup into bowls and handed them over.
Zharok and Pearl took the bowls, fish and Sweet Beet slices piled high and dug in without waiting another second.
"Delicious, meow, numbing and spicy, it feels amazing!"
Zharok picked up a piece of fish with chopsticks, dipped it in the broth, and tossed it into his mouth.
"Wow! This is amazing! Numbing and spicy! Hoo! Hah! Hoo! Hah! It’s so hot, but it’s too delicious! I can’t stop!"
"Is there a need to be so dramatic?"
Seeing their exaggerated reactions, Ethan took a sip of the broth himself, the spicy heat flowed down his throat and into his stomach, warming him from the inside out.
’It’s a pity we don’t have rice, or some noodles, that would have been nice too.’
While Ethan was nursing that thought, Zharok and Pearl had already polished off their bowls and were thrusting them back at him.
"Another bowl, meow!!"
"Give me more Sweet Beets! The Sweet Beets are so good!"
They both really loved the Fisherman’s Soup, Ethan smiled and served them another full round, they ate in complete silence, wholly focused on the meal.
After finishing, they rubbed their bellies and collapsed onto the ground.
"So delicious, meow~"
"Yeah, I’ve never had a soup this good before."
"I’m still a bit disappointed. It would have been perfect with noodles..." Ethan sighed.
"And if we added some chopped green onions and cilantro, the taste would be even better, looks like I have a few more crops to grow."
"You know how to make other delicious foods?! I can’t wait! How do you make noodles?" Zharok’s eyes lit up.
"Can’t make noodles without wheat." Ethan pointed at the bag of wheat he had acquired earlier.
"Growing wheat, huh... That’s really something to look forward to, how about I go help you look for some wild wheat?"
"That’d be great, but milling the flour is going to be a hassle..."
Ethan looked at the river and fell into thought. ’I can’t just grind it by hand every time, could I use the river’s current to build a watermill?’
He knew how to build one, when he had the chance, he would use his Crafting skill to make it.
While Ethan was pondering his future plans, Pearl ran to the river and washed its mouth, which was stained with chili oil, it carefully washed its white fur using water from the Purifying Wooden Bucket, then padded out and asked, "Did you find a place to plant the wheat, meow?"
"Not yet, there’s no suitable place around here."
’Upstream or downstream?’
As Ethan was hesitating, Zharok snapped his fingers and pointed downstream. "There’s a plain downstream, you can plant your wheat there."
"Is it far from here?"
"Not at all, want to go take a look?"
"Alright."
Under Zharok’s lead, Ethan and Pearl headed downstream, just as he had said, a massive plain spread out before them.
The soil was rich and fertile, perfect for growing wheat.
"Alright, we’ll plant the wheat here."
"Meow! Let’s do it, meow!"
"Phew~ Bringing you here pays off my meal, do you need anything else?" Zharok asked.
"Could you help me find some edible plant seeds?"
"Mhm, no problem, I’ll come back next week then."
"Great, thank you so much for today."
"Piece of cake."
Zharok smiled and strolled away.
Ethan watched him leave, then returned to the shelter with Pearl, he looked at the Blade of the Holy Elf and said nothing.
"What’s wrong, meow?"
"Nothing, just remembered some past events."
He placed the holy sword in a corner and started on the remaining tasks.
To keep growing Honey Sweet Potatoes, he needed to collect some vines, and he also had to germinate the Sweet Beet seeds.
While he was busy, a familiar voice called out from a distance.
"Ethan! Are you there?!"
It was Draugor, he ran over panting and plopped down on the ground.
Ethan handed him a cup of water. "What happened? Why the rush?"
"My village is holding a festival! I wanted to invite you to come, can you make it?!"
’A festival?’ Ethan looked at Draugor in confusion.
It turned out that their village’s hunting party had returned from a faraway place.
"Must be tough, traveling so far just to hunt."
"We needed a lot of monster cores, but there are too few monsters nearby!" Draugor explained.
"Monster cores? What do you need monster cores for?"
"Because we’ve run out of food!!"
