Chapter 455 - 454: A Discussion About Hair Color

Chapter 455: Chapter 454: A Discussion About Hair Color

Colin and Ale exchanged a glance.

They both moved closer without a word.

As they drew nearer, they could make out what the drunk man was shouting: "Oh, look who it is, Hawkeley’s redhead! Heh, I finally get to see that stupid, ridiculous hair. Everyone knows the Barbarian Race of the North has red hair, just like you.

A thousand years ago, every noble soul in the Ancient Empire had black hair, just like me. Look at that vulgar, red mane of hers... Absolutely absurd, hahaha."

Colin glanced at Sela, who was standing before the man, her face flushed red, but not daring to retort.

The man wasn’t entirely wrong.

Most citizens of the Ancient Empire had black hair, while the Barbarian Race to the northwest mostly had red or black hair. So, this so-called "hair color discrimination" did exist in this world. It was just that, compared to the more acute issue of race, the matter of hair color was less conspicuous.

Colin took the opportunity to glance at the expressions of the people around them.

Although ostracism and discrimination did exist among the nobility, as proper people, they wouldn’t usually be so obvious about it.

What this drunk was saying was, frankly, quite crass.

Of course, that certainly didn’t mean they could just pretend not to see it.

Colin stepped forward, deliberately bumping the drunk aside, and stood in front of Sela. Ale followed beside him, holding a glass of red wine.

The man, having been pushed aside, saw who it was and said, "Oh, Dragon Slayer. Is there something you want?"

"Just a few words I’d like to discuss with you," Colin said, his expression blank. "So far, I’ve dealt with Cultists, Jackal Wolfmen, and a White Dragon. I seem to recall that when I was killing them, no one asked what color my hair was."

"Hmph, what’s that supposed to mean?" the man scowled.

Even in his drunken state, he could tell there was a hidden meaning in the other’s words.

"I think I’ve made myself perfectly clear," Colin said sarcastically. "When a dragon has your head in its jaws, it won’t decide against chewing it to pieces just because you have a pretty little head of black hair."

"Aha, Dragon Slayer," the man said defiantly, pointing a finger at Colin. "I know you only killed a young White Dragon. That’s just an overgrown flying lizard. For a feat like that to even make the papers... You’re nothing special. I’m not afraid of you!"

At that moment, Ale stepped forward.

She raised her glass of red wine to the man in a toast, then promptly splashed its entire contents in his face.

"Oh, damn it, what are you doing!?" The man looked down at his formal attire, his cheeks instantly flushing red.

Ale stood her ground and said calmly, "The Orellion Clan is listening. Your insult to a friend of the Elves will be conveyed to the Silver Star Court, word for word."

"The Orellion Clan?" The man froze for a moment upon hearing her words.

Just then, the Family Head of the Lowell Clan walked over. He gently patted the young man’s shoulder, then stepped forward and said, "It seems an unfortunate incident has occurred. As the host of this banquet, I wish to extend my sincerest apologies to you all on behalf of my son."

After speaking, he turned back to look at his son.

The drunken man, now half-sobered, stammered, "I’m... I’m sorry, everyone present."

The steward of the Weston Clan came over and clapped his hands. "Very good. This is nothing more than a childish game. There’s no need to cause such a commotion. I know you’d never make a fuss over such a trivial matter, right, Colin?"

"Alcohol really does make people lose their minds," Colin shrugged.

Ale, standing nearby, nodded. She didn’t intend to press the issue either.

Indeed, there was no need to pursue the matter further under the circumstances.

"Quickly, bring our guests fresh drinks, and bring the desserts from the terrace over," Lowell said with a smile, beckoning a waiter. He then turned to lead the way. "Sir, your visit is a rare honor. Shall we move to the terrace to enjoy the sea breeze?"

"I’m afraid I have other things I must attend to, so let’s leave things as they are for today. It’s time for me to leave the banquet."

With that, Colin and Ale immediately headed for the exit.

Sela hesitated for a moment, then followed them.

The group walked out of the mansion and stopped under a streetlamp.

Having caught up, Sela said to Colin, "I’m sorry. You shouldn’t have gotten into that kind of trouble because of me today."

"Perhaps not, my Mage Teacher," Colin asked with a smile. "By the way, what was the deal with that man just now? Does that sort of thing happen often?"

Sela explained, her face red, "Not really. He’s the second son of the Lowell Clan. The eldest son of the Lowell Clan passed away in an accident a few years ago, so the right of succession has now fallen to him. However, just like most noble families, the Lowell Clan didn’t focus much on raising their second son.

What happened just now isn’t actually common; things like that don’t usually happen. But... my father is just a worker who accumulated his wealth through the craft of ship repair. He’s a supervisor in the shipwrights’ guild now. Even though we have money, we aren’t considered true nobility."

’In that case,’ Colin thought, ’what happened just now isn’t surprising at all.’

’A second son neglected by his family would indeed develop that kind of personality. It’s also no wonder Sela was willing to sincerely teach me Magic before. After all, her own father is just a self-made shipbuilder.’

It was also worth mentioning that in this world’s guilds, there was no such thing as a "vice-president." A supervisor was essentially the equivalent of a guild’s vice-president.

Following that, Sela bowed again and said, "I’m truly very sorry."

"Alright, let’s leave what happened today in the past. I should be getting back to sleep," Colin said.

Ale asked, "Aren’t you going to the Great Dome?"

"Now? Nah, forget it. I ate a little too much."

"If you ever need help with anything in the future, please let me know. I’ll definitely do my best to help." Sela suddenly pulled a ring set with a red Gemstone from her finger and held it out. "By the way, this is what we agreed on beforehand."

"You... Alright."

Colin hesitated for a moment but still took the ring she offered.

As the two of them were talking, Colin suddenly noticed a few familiar figures under a streetlamp at the corner of the street.

Looking closer, he saw it was the Paladin squad he had met at the Black Tower.

The group was standing in the distance, waving in their direction, apparently trying to get Colin to come over.

"Alright, Sela, go find your father for now. I have a few friends who want to talk to me alone," Colin said with a smile, giving her a wave.

After saying goodbye to her, he and Ale walked over to the group of Paladins, who were dressed in formal attire.
