I Have a Task Log

Chapter 475 - 474: Future Arrangements

Chapter 475: Chapter 474: Future Arrangements

After the caravan departed, Mog turned to the others and said, "Mog has left the forest and gotten the mushrooms he wanted. Mog will go with you to the next town. As long as there is a Divine Hall of the Goddess of Wealth, Mog can give you the items."

Colin asked, "And after we pay you? Where will you go?"

"Near the Sunset Mountain Range," Mog said.

"It seems our destinations are quite close. Why don’t we travel together, Mr. Mog?" Albert asked with a smile.

Mog gave a simple-minded nod. "Okay. Mog agrees. Mog feels safe walking with you."

Once they had reached an agreement, they purchased supplies in the village. Then, they led the Big Hoof Treasure west along the muddy road.

Colin stole a moment to check his Task Log.

Since Mog had already left the Supreme Forest, the task was now considered complete.

-----------------

[Task: Ogre Guide]

[Rating: 6]

[Reward: 90 Skill Level points, Tier Four Magic "Jade Water Ball"]

-----------------

The battle against the Orc Warband had been fought alongside the merchant caravan, after all, so the task’s difficulty wasn’t judged to be too high.

If Colin’s small party had faced that group of Orcs alone, it was hard to say who would have won. They might have been victorious if they’d had favorable terrain.

Of course, even if Colin’s group had lost, the Orcs certainly wouldn’t have escaped unscathed.

Colin unhesitatingly allocated all the Skill Level points to his Swordsmanship.

Perhaps because the reward included a Tier Four Magic, the amount of Skill Level points wasn’t that high.

After adding the points and factoring in his daily training while traveling with the caravan, Colin’s Skill Levels were now: Casting (Expert) 3137/4000, Empowering Armor (Expert) 2142/4000, Silent Sword Skill (Reliable) 1992/2000, Magic Artisan (Apprentice) 619/1250.

The journey had been long, making this the trip where Colin had gained the most Skill Level yet. In total, it was probably close to two hundred points.

However, Colin hadn’t practiced his Swordsmanship much recently.

The main reason was that he had acted as a Mage in the last few battles, rarely charging forward to engage enemies in close-quarters combat. Since fighting enemies was the fastest way to increase Skill Level, his Swordsmanship had progressed very slowly during this period.

Of course, he was now only eight Skill Level points away from his next Specialty. Strictly speaking, he could definitely obtain it in two or three days.

Colin then turned his attention to the other reward: the Tier Four Magic, [Jade Water Ball].

With a mere thought, Colin found himself back in the Illusion Realm.

This time, he was standing on a boundless prairie, facing a humanoid target about two meters tall.

Having learned many spells here before, Colin was quite unfazed. He relaxed his entire body, allowing the formless consciousness to take control.

Immediately after, he felt his own hands lift his Spellbook and begin Spellcasting.

As the Spell was completed, a deep blue point of light flashed on the humanoid target’s chest.

The next instant, a torrent of clear water gushed from the blue point of light, coalescing around the target into a water ball with a radius of one and a half meters. It was as if an invisible glass sphere had formed around it.

Colin’s body slowly raised its right hand, outside his control.

The water ball immediately began to levitate, carrying the enveloped humanoid target with it. It floated up until it was nearly three meters off the ground before slowly stopping.

’This must be its maximum height,’ Colin thought.

Then, the humanoid target began to swing its arms and struggle fiercely. Colin felt a strange sensation in his head, as if a worm were wriggling inside his brain.

After a desperate struggle, the humanoid target broke free of the water ball and fell to the ground.

Colin’s right hand dropped.

The distant water ball fell with it, crashing onto the humanoid target and trapping it inside once more.

’It’s a powerful Control Magic. Its casting speed is so fast that it’s almost impossible to dodge, but it can be broken with Power.’ Colin quickly summarized the Magic’s characteristics in his mind.

Since this was his first time learning a Tier Four Magic in this place, Colin had to exert a great deal of effort.

He didn’t know how many times he had recited the Spell before successfully Casting it. If time in the outside world had been passing normally, he felt he probably would have starved to death.

Leaving the Illusion Realm, Colin looked at the new Magic he had learned.

[Jade Water Ball], Tier Four Magic. The user designates a point within thirty meters to summon a water ball with a two-meter radius. The water ball can levitate in mid-air, but its height cannot exceed three meters from the ground. It lasts for one minute. You can make the water ball fall to extinguish Flames in the surrounding area. The water ball can move a maximum distance of ten meters.

The Magic’s description was very brief, only outlining the general idea. It didn’t mention its function for trapping creatures at all.

’I’ll have to experiment with this Magic’s specific uses later...’

As Colin thought this to himself, he continued to walk slowly along the road with the others.

Colin didn’t know if it was because they had just left the Supreme Forest or for some other reason, but he inexplicably felt that the journey ahead was much more pleasant than before.

The main road under their feet was very flat.

Fields of intermingled gold and green contained rye and barley, and harvested patches revealed fertile black earth.

The dirt road beneath Colin’s feet was soft and damp from a recent light rain.

The feeling was just right—not so dry that dust flew everywhere, but not so wet that every step was into thick mud.

There was a light mist here in the early mornings, but it would dissipate half an hour after sunrise, never delaying their travel and leaving one feeling refreshed and invigorated.

The weather was also quite pleasant. The sunlight was gentle, neither hot nor cold.

Since it was the autumn harvest season, food in the villages wasn’t expensive. For just a few Copper Coins, they could eat freshly baked bread and fresh vegetables.

Compared to the dried meat they usually ate while traveling, this was a considerable improvement. At least when he ate, Colin felt like a living person again.

It was also worth mentioning that they had encountered several parties of Adventurers along the way, as well as some professional Hunters with hounds, riding on tall horses.

The former were after monsters and bounties.

Although this area was dangerous, the number of job opportunities was also shockingly high.

The latter’s targets were beasts with expensive pelts.

The noble estates in the south mostly had hunting bans, prohibiting the hunting of any beasts other than rabbits and wolves. The North, however, had almost no such restrictions.

In this world, furs were highly sought-after goods, just like spices and silks, and were worth risking one’s life for.

Besides all this, there was one thing that was starting to annoy Colin.

He hadn’t encountered any hostile creatures. For several days in a row, he couldn’t find a single suitable creature to test his new Magic on.

Bandits and robbers were out of the question. Seeing Colin and his party’s gear, the only ones who would dare try to rob them were probably High Tier members of the Viper Association.

But the group hadn’t even seen beasts like bears or wolves. Logically, these creatures should be out foraging for food right now; he had no idea where they had all gone.

Of course, thinking back to the Hunters they had met earlier, he could pretty much guess the fate of those animals.
