Chapter 551: Chapter 551: Because You Are Claire Sinclair
Pep Girl said, "I’m an intern, Bonnie Yates. I’m nineteen, from the journalism department at the University of Aethelgard."
The cheerful boy said, "I’m an intern too. I just started last week. I graduated from Meridia University’s communications program. My name is Theo Rhodes."
One was from Aridia’s best university, and the other had graduated from Meridia’s best university. It looked like they were both top students.
Claire Sinclair was eager to see what they could do. She said politely, "Hello. Were you hired by Teacher Hartwell?"
The two of them nodded in unison.
Claire Sinclair asked again, "And the people who used to sit at your desks?"
The two of them instinctively glanced at each other, as if the topic was difficult to broach. Finally, the young man spoke. "The president came for an inspection a few days ago. We don’t know why, but he fired them."
Holy crap!
’The old publisher shows up out of the blue and fires two veteran employees for no reason? That’s terrifying!’
Claire Sinclair suddenly worried she’d be next, so she quickly asked them, "Is Teacher Hartwell here?"
As if on cue, they both pointed to the archives and said in unison, "Editor Hartwell is in there."
Claire Sinclair nodded, turned, and walked into the archives.
It was like time had rewound to when she first met him, back when Henry Hartwell had a beer belly. She hadn’t seen him in only three months, and the belly was already back...
Claire Sinclair stared at his scruffy, stubble-covered face. ’What has he been through these past three months? How did he let himself go like this?’ It was hard to look at him.
Claire Sinclair shouted, "Teacher Hartwell, rise and shine!"
"Ah, it’s morning!" Henry Hartwell jolted awake. He smiled the moment he saw her. "Claire Sinclair, you’re back just in time. I hired two new people. Which one do you want to mentor?"
Claire Sinclair raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean, ’which one do I want to mentor’?"
"Didn’t you see the two new hires when you came in? A guy and a girl."
"I saw them."
Henry Hartwell said quickly, "I forgot there’s one last skill I need to teach you: how to teach others. You need to take on an apprentice and train them successfully. Only then can you be considered a fully qualified reporter."
Claire Sinclair didn’t quite understand. "Why do I have to train an apprentice to be fully qualified?"
"Because you’re Claire Sinclair, the future First Lady. You have to learn how to pass on your knowledge."
’He actually has a point,’ Claire Sinclair thought. She couldn’t argue with that.
Henry Hartwell asked again, "So, which one do you want to mentor?"
Claire Sinclair asked in return, "If I mentor one, who mentors the other?"
"Who else? Me, of course."
"In that case, I’ll mentor the guy. You can have the girl, Teacher Hartwell."
Henry Hartwell frowned. "You’re mentoring the guy? Aren’t you afraid your husband will get jealous?"
Claire Sinclair eyed his beer belly with open distaste. "I’m just afraid you’ll teach the guy how to grow a beer belly, Teacher Hartwell. Mentoring a girl might make you pay more attention to your own image."
"Ah, you saw right through me. Fine, fine. I’ll mentor the girl, you can have the guy."
Claire Sinclair couldn’t resist asking, "So... how exactly do I mentor a rookie?"
"Just feed them some pep talks."
"..." ’That’s it?’
Henry Hartwell laughed. "Of course, everyone has their own style. Just teach them what you know. You know, in that pep-talk kind of way."
’And now he’s feeding *me* a pep talk!’ Claire Sinclair thought.
"Teacher Hartwell, you’re always so vague."
"Haha... Alright, then let me give you something concrete. I got an on-the-record tip from a source. They said there’s a viral pharmacy in City E selling some kind of miracle drug. It supposedly cures any and all ailments. Lots of people have taken it and been completely cured. They say it has zero negative reviews. Now, the pharmacy is getting ready to recruit global distributors."
