I Married the President

Chapter 555: Know When to Stop

Chapter 555: Chapter 555: Know When to Stop

Claire Sinclair held Old Master Quincy’s hand and whispered, "Grandpa White-beard, do you remember back at the Third Hospital? You and my grandmother shared a room, and a girl brought you food every day."

Old Master Quincy seemed to recall something, and his ragged breathing steadied slightly. "Quinn, I remember it was you."

Claire Sinclair smiled and shook her head. "You’re mistaken. My sister had already left for the training camp by then. I was the one taking care of you. It was always me, never my sister."

Old Master Quincy stared at her, suddenly falling silent.

Claire Sinclair spoke again. "Grandpa White-beard, it’s okay if you don’t remember me. It’s even okay if you think I’m not as good as my sister. Mr. Quincy is the man I will protect with my life, forever. I will never leave him, and I won’t shrink away because of what other people say. I’m married to Mr. Quincy, and I hope you can support us, Grandpa."

Adrian Quincy walked over to stand beside her, placing a large hand gently on her shoulder. He looked down at the old man, whose eyes could barely stay open.

"Grandpa, Claire and I are truly in love. What do you say?"

The light had already faded from Old Master Quincy’s eyes. In the end, he said nothing at all.

Claire Sinclair felt the strength in the hand she was holding fade away. Tears welled up in her eyes and streamed down her face.

Adrian Quincy instinctively pulled her into his arms, his voice deep. "Claire, my condolences."

Old Master Quincy passed away without ever making his stance clear.

Seeing this, Mrs. Quincy stormed over, pointed a finger at Claire Sinclair’s nose, and shrieked, "Claire Sinclair, you angered my father to death! It was you!"

Adrian Quincy shot her a cold glare. "Mother," he said sharply, "if you want me to disown you at Grandpa’s funeral, then say one more word against Claire."

Mrs. Quincy was instantly speechless.

Yara Quincy lost all restraint, sobbing as she yelled, "Brother, I’m your real sister! You’re disowning Mom for this phony woman? Fine, then just kill me! You’ve already disowned me anyway!"

Adrian Quincy whipped his head around but didn’t spare his sister a single glance. He barked, "Aiden Howkins, escort the culprit back. If anyone dares let her out again, they will be handled according to the law!"

"Yes, sir!" Aiden Howkins marched over and forcefully pushed Yara away.

Mrs. Quincy started to go after them, but Mr. Quincy roared, "That’s enough! Stop this instant!"

Mrs. Quincy stopped dead in her tracks, looking at her husband with a helpless and desperate expression. "Why did you yell at me?"

Mr. Quincy’s expression was grim. "Dad is gone. Let’s focus on the arrangements. We can deal with everything else later."

Mrs. Quincy clenched her jaw, but she had no choice but to back down.

Claire Sinclair barely registered what anyone was saying. Buried in her husband’s arms, she sobbed uncontrollably.

She wasn’t foolish enough to believe she had actually angered Grandpa White-beard to death. She was just overwhelmed with sadness, because the man holding her was so deeply grieved.

She could feel it...

A man who almost never let his joy or anger show on his face was now radiating pure grief.

...

Adrian Quincy ended up staying at the hospital overnight to handle the arrangements for his grandfather.

He insisted on sending Claire Sinclair back to Evergreen Garden in the middle of the night. Through it all, she never found the right moment to bring up her business trip.

Her husband was so heartbroken right now; she would feel terribly guilty if she left him.

With this in mind, Claire Sinclair had no choice but to pick up her phone and send a message to Teacher Hartwell: *Teacher Hartwell, my husband’s grandfather passed away. I might be delayed by a couple of days for the business trip.*

She didn’t expect him to reply at this hour, but Henry Hartwell’s response came back instantly: *You mean Elder Quincy passed away?*

Claire: *Yeah.*
