It turned out that today was an off school day for sophomores, so students could relax, recreate, hang out, and play games. The school management had decided to grant them this opportunity so they could prepare and finalize what they had learned and mastered in order to perform well during the competition test week that would commence soon.
This carried considerable weight, as it would also affect one’s class rank and the prospects of becoming the school’s valedictorian. It was also an opportunity for students to learn and explore more about their summons and their abilities.
For many, this was a chance to make good use of their time and prepare themselves for improvement, hoping to return and secure the highest positions. For others, it was likely a perfect opportunity to flaunt their strength over the students they looked down on.
Meanwhile, at the left end of a rectangular hall, Mark stood with one hand under his chin before a massive petrified double door that looked like an ancient wall. One side was fully revealed, its surface gleaming with copper, while the other remained gray and stone like, covered in heavy slabs.
The imposing statue standing beside it looked as striking as ever as he wondered what special, unique properties his second summon might carry, and whether it could somehow surpass even his first. He genuinely couldn’t wait to finally unwrap it.
That building anticipation always gave him the same thrilling rush of excitement he imagined people felt watching the big reveal in a movie.
Just a few more dungeon cores, and his wish would finally become reality. He needed to keep growing stronger in a world like this, where anyone could become a victim regardless of their standing, just as Derek once had.
And whether he was truly worthy of receiving that second summon depended entirely on the progress of his first, since that was the deciding factor behind it all. That, from what he had observed so far, was simply another principle woven into the Amazonian Decree.
Mark turned to Cassandra, standing beside him like a graceful maiden on duty. She had settled into her more human proportioned form, a result of both her own adaptability and the lingering effect of the shrinking potion.
He remained genuinely grateful to Hermione for handing him that particular gift, and he intended to repay her properly as a friend someday.
"Guess your sisterhood reunion with the others is going to have to wait a bit longer than I originally thought." Mark shook his head slightly.
The Cheer Warrior studied him with quiet understanding before stepping closer, offering reassurance. "It isn’t your fault, dear Heir. We’re independent, capable women who have weathered plenty in our time. There’s no need to trouble yourself over it."
Mark nodded, a small, appreciative smile crossing his face. He had come to notice her personality closely, both as her summoner and as someone who genuinely cared for her, and honestly, he liked what he found there.
Despite the ferocity and raw intensity she carried into duty, combat, and battle, Cassandra carried a warm, serene gentleness underneath it all.
He knew it wasn’t some performance for his benefit either, since she always seemed entirely comfortable being herself around him, without pretense.
She showed him a kind of cheerful, caring, steady support unlike anything he had really experienced before, not even from his own mother, who had simply never had the chance to give him that kind of presence, given everything she had been fighting through.
That, he realized now, was likely the reason behind one of her titles, the Cheer Warrior. He hadn’t fully understood the meaning behind it at first. Now, it made complete sense.
And for reasons he couldn’t quite put into words, he felt genuinely, deeply drawn to her, not romantically, but through something closer to real friendship, far removed from how other summoners often treated their summons, like little more than obedient tools bound by duty.
Cassandra had become something like a second sister to him, someone who had already stepped in and saved his life once already. He had no doubt she would continue standing by him as things moved forward.
There was something quietly lovely about her that reached somewhere deep inside him, even if he struggled to properly put his appreciation into words. He felt genuinely proud to have her at his side. Having her there only deepened his admiration for the Amazons as a whole.
They were so often reduced to the image of fierce, brutal warriors, savage and bestial in nature, yet that portrayal fell apart the moment you looked past the battlefield. They were disciplined, deeply cultured people, capable of building and governing entire civilizations of their own.
Plenty of old accounts had likely downplayed their true potential, worth, and strength in favor of more familiar male warriors from Greek or Norse legend. In hindsight, that felt less like an honest historical account and more like a glaring underestimation, shaped by outdated bias.
Mark understood that his own Cassandra represented a unique variant among her kind, judging by her distinct appearance, yet all Amazons still remained bound together through a shared sisterhood, culture, elegance, and purpose, moving as one unified people.
Not willing to lose the opportunity whenever it came, he began to admire the shape of her graceful body that was up close to him. Then he inhaled slightly to catch her clean, wonderful scent.
And one thing that he couldn’t blame himself for as a man was the urge to ogle and admire the gift of the Amazon, even though she was his own summon, which made it look odd and inappropriate the more.
He knew that they were simply connected by a bond through a soul link, as was the case for summoners and their summons.
Noticing his gaze directed over herself unlike a normal stare, Cassandra frowned with disapproval as she increased the gap between them. "I can see that it’s not so shameful and corrupted for you to trespass the restrictions of the Amazon Order by testing your luck on me. I’d like to see you keep trying until you eventually fall like a drunk lord."
"Aw, come on. Just allow this helpless kid to enjoy his view as the rightful one," Mark said with a sigh when he saw her expression.
"Not after the numerous times that you’ve tried and I’ve tolerated such. I wonder how you guys even work and live with such strange biological behavior." Cassandra rolled her eyes before narrowing them.
Mark couldn’t believe what he was hearing. It was just so absurd that it was nerve-wracking. "It’s just natural, no need to fuss over that. And don’t tell me that you never have anything for men. Are Amazons lesbian?"
Cassandra’s head jerked back as she placed both hands over her broad hips like a disappointed mother. "Lazbian? What’s that supposed to mean, another obscene word? It is against the disciplined law of the Amazon Order to go this route. We are disciplined and dutiful to our goals, not trivial ones."
Mark silently shook his head with his eyes shut in amusement. He could see the slight change and crack in her stance when he shook up the truth about her as a female being.
There was no way that she had never harbored any sense of urge, deep affection, or desire. He knew that pretty well from the way she had loosely defended herself.
"I wonder how you people even reproduce and diversify," he muttered under his breath.
This thought had been on his mind because she still claimed that her order wasn’t into anything intimate with men. The more she pushed against the subject, the more he felt that there had to be an unbearable and unbeatable truth behind it.
But luckily enough, he had already acquired an Attribute Skill that could reveal it ever since his last successful dungeon clearance back in Waylon City.
