I Only Summon Amazon Giantesses

Chapter 49: A Knight and A Dragon

With that, a gleaming, silvery portal tore open beside him, the heavy, metallic clinking of ironclad boots ringing out clearly across the platform.

A humanoid summon stepped through from within, clad head to toe in thick silver armor, a great helm crowned with vivid red plumes settled atop its head.

Its pauldrons sat at a moderate, practical size, clearly built for shoulder driven strikes, while its chest plate bore the unmistakable insignia of two crossed, slashing swords.

The exposed hilt of a longsword peeked out from behind its shoulder, the polished blade itself still sheathed, gleaming with quiet menace under the afternoon sun.

The Silver Knight’s entire frame had been shaped and fitted with the unmistakable bearing of a veteran, battle hardened warrior, crafted specifically, deliberately, for exactly this purpose.

Jimmy, the ponytail haired boy, folded his arms as he stood beside his towering, six foot soldier.

The sight lent him an almost regal presence, as though he were some minor royal figure standing beside his own dutiful, sworn protector.

Kai simply reached out and patted the lowered head of his wyvern before turning a brief, unimpressed glance toward his opponent’s summon. Still, something weighty lingered behind his eyes despite the casual gesture.

"So you actually think that’s going to stop me? Seriously? You’re exactly like the others who fall early, judging things they don’t fully understand. I’d strongly advise you reconsider before this goes any further."

Jimmy’s jaw clenched tight as he jabbed a finger accusingly in Kai’s direction.

"You arrogant son of a bitch. Don’t think for one second you’re going to keep getting away with everything you and your cronies have pulled on weaker students. Today, I’m finally doing what plenty of people should have done a long time ago, and you’re going down."

The mood in the stands shifted almost instantly.

Several students traded uncertain glances, while others sat up straighter, suddenly far more attentive. Jimmy’s words carried real weight behind them, anger and genuine frustration bleeding through every syllable.

Among the sophomores in particular, a handful of the girls softened visibly, something close to quiet admiration crossing their expressions at his willingness to stand up against Kai directly.

A girl a few rows up leaned toward her friend. "Okay, honestly? Somebody finally said it out loud."

"Right? I’ve wanted to see someone call Kai out for months," her friend murmured back, eyes fixed on the platform.

A boy seated just behind them crossed his arms, skeptical. "Sure, but wanting it and actually pulling it off are two very different things. Kai’s wyvern alone outranks half this year’s sophomore class combined."

"Maybe," the first girl said without looking back. "But I still want to see that knight of his actually swing that sword for real."

With that, the referee’s whistle cut sharply through the noise, signaling the start of the match.

The stands filled instantly with mounting tension and excitement. There was genuine, real possibility now that one of the school’s most highly ranked students might actually fall, right here, in front of the entire student body.

"Let me put this plainly for you. You don’t stand before a dragon and cower, kneel, and praise it like it’s the top of the food chain," Kai said.

His wyvern surged upward with a single, powerful flap of its sail like wings, climbing more than five meters into the air in an instant. Its narrow, slitted eyes burned with ferocity and raw, coiled danger.

A massive shadow swept across sections of the stands like a passing eclipse as the wyvern spread its enormous wings wide overhead.

The Silver Knight reached behind itself, gripping the hilt of its longsword before drawing the blade free in one smooth motion, the heavy, metallic slither of steel against sheath cracking sharply through the air.

The knight settled instantly into a ready, defensive stance.

Sensing the challenge, the wyvern’s eyes flared, something close to genuine offense flashing behind them. A deep, guttural growl rumbled up through its throat before it suddenly dove downward in a sharp, diving attack.

The knight raised its blade before swinging it outward in a wide, sweeping arc. The strike spun through the air like a razor edged disc, aimed directly at a critical point along the descending creature’s frame.

At close range, the wyvern suddenly whipped its tail around in a brutal, wide arc.

CLANG! The heavy, spiked flail intercepted the blade, knocking its trajectory violently off course.

But the wyvern didn’t stop there. Its jaws snapped open, catching the deflected sword cleanly between its teeth mid flight.

A pulsing, unsettling glow began building deep within its throat, as though it intended to melt the weapon down to slag on the spot.

The sight immediately seized the crowd’s full attention.

"Wait, what the hell?"

"It actually caught the sword!"

"Hold on, what’s building up inside its mouth right now?"

"Is that some kind of elemental attack?"

A wave of genuine shock rippled through the students watching.

The truly startling part wasn’t simply that the wyvern had managed to intercept the weapon mid strike. It was the fact that it appeared genuinely capable of channeling an elemental attack, the kind typically associated with a fully matured, true dragon.

The only real explanation left standing was that it sat close to completing a full evolutionary leap into true draconic status.

This had long stood as a persistent myth surrounding especially powerful wyverns and drakes, and testimony from members of the great dragon bloodline clans had already suggested the theory carried real, documented weight behind it.

Just then, the Silver Knight clenched its right fist tightly, pulsing energy crackling to life around its armored hand.

Suddenly, the wyvern jerked downward, as though yanked by some invisible, unrelenting force.

The source of that force traced directly back to the sword still trapped between its jaws.

The wyvern beat its enormous wings desperately, fighting for altitude, but the effort proved entirely useless against the overwhelming pull dragging it steadily earthward.

BOOM! The wyvern slammed into the platform with tremendous, bone jarring force.

A violent cloud of dust and shattered debris exploded upward, spreading rapidly across the battlefield.

Kai’s composed expression finally cracked, just slightly.

His eyes narrowed sharply as understanding dawned all at once.

The students arrived at the same realization almost simultaneously, gasps and murmurs sweeping through the stands like a wave breaking across open water.

"It’s the sword! That’s the trick!"

"The weapon itself has some kind of ability!"

"That’s exactly why he let the wyvern grab it in the first place!"

Jimmy allowed himself a small, satisfied smirk, eyes still locked firmly on Kai, standing at the far opposite end of the platform.

This particular technique allowed a weapon’s rightful wielder to reclaim their bestowed, glorious blade through any number of methods, a spoken command, focused mental intent, or, as demonstrated here, something as simple as a deliberate gesture.

The wyvern shook its head groggily, still reeling from the pain of impact. Its body had been thrown badly off balance by the crash, leaving it sprawled awkwardly across several meters of cracked, broken platform.

But to the surprise of nearly everyone watching, the wyvern slowly began pushing itself back upright.

It braced its massive frame against its own leathery wings, using them almost like a bat stabilizing itself against the ground.

Several students stared in open disbelief. "Wait, it’s actually getting back up? After that?"

"That’s exactly what a powerful High Tier summon looks like, apparently."

Somewhere in the sophomore section, a boy let out a low, impressed whistle. "Okay, I take back what I said earlier. That thing’s built different."

"Told you," his earlier companion shot back, not even bothering to hide her grin.

The wyvern’s eyes turned suddenly wild. A heavy, murderous intent filled its gaze, settling perfectly into its already ferocious, predatory nature.

It surged forward. Then broke into a full charge. The wyvern rushed the Silver Knight and its summoner alike with genuinely terrifying speed.

Jimmy’s expression shifted sharply, eyes widening as he registered the sheer, overwhelming presence of the dragon like creature bearing down on him from such close range.

Even if he’d wanted to trigger Exchange and reposition himself somewhere safer, his own summon currently occupied the exact same stretch of ground, leaving him with no viable route of escape.

Moving like a charging fortress, the Silver Knight blitzed forward to meet it.

Mid charge, it wrenched its prized weapon free from the wyvern’s jaws, closing its armored fingers firmly around the hilt once more.

The knight drove directly toward the incoming wyvern. The two collided head on.

BOOM! The knight’s shoulder slammed into the wyvern’s body with tremendous, thunderous force, the impact echoing outward across the entire arena.

Jimmy caught himself just in time, the initial shock of the collision passing quickly. Relief flickered briefly across his face before he activated Echo.

Heavy silver armor materialized rapidly across his own body.

A sturdy cuirass formed over his chest, protective pauldrons settling across his shoulders. Greaves wrapped snugly around his shins, heavy boots forming solidly over his feet.

Finally, a gleaming longsword materialized directly in his grip, catching the sunlight and scattering it into a brilliant spectrum of color.

His eyes locked squarely onto Kai, who made no move to close the distance, simply waiting.

Hard, unwavering resolve settled over Jimmy’s expression.

"You bastard! You knew exactly what you were doing, sending that lizard of yours straight at me like that! I actually convinced myself I wouldn’t have to fight as a summoner myself in this match. Turns out I was dead wrong."

His voice came out low and solemn as his grip tightened further around the hilt of his blade. Then, finally, he began moving toward his target.
