’I curse my luck. No, why do I have to be so cursed!’
I just had to run into her when I was warned not to.
’This is all White Feather’s fault. She jinxed it!’
Meanwhile, her cold blue eyes rested on me, as if examining me beyond what she was seeing.
There was a simple katana-like sword on her waist, and her slender hand was resting on it.
"Oh. Interesting."
She said with a hint of amusement in her voice, and a strange, ancient, millennia years old lady accent. Even Kassie didn’t have this accent.
She circled me, watching every part of my body. Then she came closer, and ran her fingers across my muscle tones.
Her eyes slowly transformed from subtle amusement to obsessed curiosity.
She gripped my arms.
"Kid! Who did this to you?! This muscle toning! The density, and rigidity. There’s no way I wouldn’t know my training routine! Who did this?!"
Even she was almost molesting me in the night, in the middle of the forest, I did not move, I froze in place. I wasn’t foolish enough to let my guard down just because she was somewhat less guarded.
Truth was, even though she was, there was no opening at all.
I didn’t see myself escaping her so quickly.
My intuition told me that it was pointless to use Feather Step. Because she might even catch me before I disappeared. That was how terrifying she felt. And I was rarely ever wrong about these things.
This woman was freakishly strong.
’I’m very sorry, Kassie, Yuan...’
"I permit you to talk."
Immediately she spoke, the ravaging cold that was already making me tremble vanished. And the entire air felt more free, even breathing became easier than usual.
’What in the... this is my chance!’
Instantly, I catapulted back, as though springs were in my leg.
She gave me a poignant look.
"Pointless."
I knew. And because I knew, a daring grin was spread on my face.
As I catapulted myself, a whirlwind of crimson sparks swirled right before me, another of white sparks behind it.
Brunhilde’s eyes went wide as she focused on the crimson spark.
The spark unraveled. And Kassie went low, her great sword extended upwards. The kind of power she generated from her strange stance.
"Master! Duck!!"
White Feather shouted. At the same time, Kassie lunged forward. A devastating shockwave exploded from her movement and ripped the entire trees about a hundred meters from us, into dust.
She collided with Brunhilde and an even more devastating shockwave consumed the land. Along with a deafening sound, like the sky suddenly collapsed with all its heavenly weight.
The ground was savagely brutalized, rolling outwards as chunks of it were crumbling under the disintegrating force that their collision attacked.
The whole forest was consumed with dust of debris, that swept through every corner almost as though they had a mind of their own.
’Goodness...’
Luckily for me, I had teleported as soon as I summoned Kassie, not even waiting to hear White Feather’s voice. But once was not enough, the force slammed into me too and threw me as far away as everything was being thrown.
But mid flight, I vanished and appeared on the ground, summoning Frostfang and digging it into the ground. Ice spread from the sword and covered the ground, making my anchor a little stronger.
A moment later, White Feather appeared next to me.
The storm of their clash was already calming down by then.
"Ah! AHHH! Ahh AAHHHHH!! Temple Slave!"
Brunhilde’s voice was the first that tore through the storm. She sounded both excited and insanely mad.
"Is this how you greet your master, you rotten piece of shit?"
Kassie and the two of them were deep down in a crater that spread like thirty meters. And Brunhilde...
My eyes slowly widened when I saw them.
’Impossible.’
She was holding Kassie’s sword.
Her hand rigid like a sculpted metal, stream of veins hardening beneath her icy skin.
Kassie’s face I could not see, it was hidden beneath her helmet. Only her crimson hair was flowing back.
She said nothing. The two for a moment were locked in a loud silence.
Then another presence appeared.
She had overflowing silver hair just like Brunhilde, but with molten eyes, and contrasted against a dark skin. Two obsidian horns curved back from the sides of her head.
And her figure.
It was terrifying.
Very comparable to Lady Fintan of the White Tail, but far more astounding.
She had a fearsome height, with her curvaceous figure carrying a teasing blend of athletic grace and predatory charm. There was a vivid, untamed energy about her, instantly making me understand why exactly someone like her would have a summon that happens to be Kassie’s Master.
"Brunhilde, what is going on here?"
The icy summon glanced at the woman with a cold look on her face.
"Hey, didn’t I warn you not to disturb me?"
The lady, looked mad but still smiled.
"What are you saying, we are at a very sensitive time as a territory, with how unbalance things are with the Schwarzberg. You know we have to be very careful. You’re supposed to be my hidden card remember?"
’Poor woman, she must be going through it like me too.’
Brunhilde turned away from her and fixed her gaze on Kassie, who was still silent.
Kassie’s muscles suddenly twitched.
With an even greater force, she ripped her sword away from Brunhilde’s hand. In the same breath of movement, she spun, her direction taking a sharp twist.
My eyes widened as I realized what she was going for.
And the deep, dark murderous intent that emanated from her.
Knowing she was going for the woman, I moved, appearing right between Kassie’s sword and the woman.
I positioned Frostfang to block, but the moment Kassie’s greatsword, with a greater force of its power, slammed against it, the sword shattered and Kassie’s sword was still going, right into my chest.
Last minute though she impossibly ripped her trajectory away, leaving her shallow tear across my torso towards my shoulder.
Blood flew outward.
In that moment, her helmet vanished, and I saw a terrified look on Kassie’s face.
It was the first time... the first time I had ever seen such a look of care on her face.
Sadly though, the next second, a gigantic frozen great sword descended on Kassie. She was defenseless, not because she couldn’t defend against it. But mere moments, before the sword came, she had bent over, releasing a jarring groan.
