So many people, and they were neither Yao Race nor Dragon Race. Where in the world had they come from?

The battle had never been like this before, becoming white-hot the moment it began. This was also the Star Alliance’s first true counter-attack, and it had come without any warning.

Even the Demon Race was having trouble adjusting. After fighting for so many years, the Star Alliance had always used turtle tactics. What was going on?

Burning Castle had been training its soldiers for the past two years. Yang Ying’s mass Holy Statue Technique, Suo Ming’s suicide squad, and Li Tianyi’s Fire Swordsmen had all become incredibly powerful. In fact, this was the first time they were fighting in a combined operation.

Once a main attack point was established to break the stalemate, and the surrounding Cultivators could make up for any numerical disadvantage, the battle became an entirely different situation.

Chi Qing observed the state of the battlefield. The fighting raged from the sky to the ground. Though the Bow Cultivators were relatively weak, they still had the city’s defenses. A large number of Talisman Cultivators were providing protection. Celestial Time, terrestrial advantage, and human harmony—they held every advantage. Moreover, an army fighting with righteous fury is bound to win. Right now, Burning Castle was filled with boundless killing intent with nowhere to vent. If Chi Qing had arrived just a little later, that killing intent would have turned into frantic rage. But her army had arrived at the perfect time, becoming the perfect target.

The battle raged at the front, but things hadn’t stopped in the rear. Cultivators were still continuously arriving. At first, Xie Tianhua had tried to maintain some semblance of order, but it soon got to the point where any Cultivator who teleported in was simply told to charge!

When the war reached this stage, no mobilization speeches were necessary.

Gazing at the overall battlefield, Xie Tianhua knew they were going to win. This would be the most unique battle since the Star Alliance first went to war with the Demon Race.

It was the first time they had pushed out, fought a decisive battle head-on, and won.

Right now, Xie Tianhua’s only worry was the safety of Wang Meng and Zhang Xiaojiang. As long as those two returned safely, this would be a complete victory.

After all, his own prestige wasn’t nearly high enough. This one battle was fine, but if there were more like it in the future, the outcome might not be the same.

Xie Tianhua was human, and a smart one at that. He knew all too well what came after victory. He wasn’t too worried about internal affairs here, but Lin Jinghao and Jii Wanli wouldn’t just sit back and do nothing.

’Only with Wang Meng here can we unite these newly arrived Cultivators and convince them to stay.’

The battle grew more and more intense, and the longer Chi Qing watched, the angrier she became. She had no intention of being the first Demon King to lose her right of succession.

She immediately summoned the Demons by her side. "Relay my orders to Qiang Wan and Qiang Yu! If they can’t take Burning Castle, they will bring me their heads!"

Rage burned in Chi Qing’s heart. There was no shortage of Demon Generals. If these two were useless, plenty of other Demons would be eager to take their place.

In that very instant, a sense of danger flared in Chi Qing’s mind.

A cold gleam of light shot through the air, aimed straight for her heart.

A savage grin appeared on Chi Qing’s face. "You court death!"

BANG! Her entire body dissolved into a cloud of Demonic Qi, and the cold light hit nothing.

At the same time, purple lightning blasted the empty space, and a figure shot out.

It was Zhang Xiaojiang.

SWISH SWISH SWISH...

A sky full of arrows rained down on Chi Qing. She sneered, and purplish-black lightning blasted from her body, only to stop abruptly.

Someone else had appeared beside her. Wang Meng’s large hand was clamped around her neck, showing not a shred of tenderness for her beauty.

Instantly, Demonic Qi erupted from Chi Qing’s body, but Wang Meng’s fist was already crashing down on her head.

Chi Qing’s head tilted to the side, and she went still.

The surrounding Demons who were about to charge were all stunned. Whether it was Chi Qing or the other Demons, they all thought Wang Meng had gone crazy and run off somewhere. Who would have expected him to appear in the middle of the battlefield?

He slapped a Sealing Talisman directly onto Chi Qing’s head and tossed her into the Sealing Demon Cauldron.

"One!"

Wang Meng said flatly. Shameless? If he and Zhang Xiaojiang decided to get serious, the Demon Race wouldn’t even get a turn.

Zhang Xiaojiang wiped his mouth and looked at the surrounding Demons. "This vixen was pretty strong. Boss, be careful."

Wang Meng nodded. "I’m counting on you for things in the city."

There were several new holes in Zhang Xiaojiang’s clothes, which had clearly pierced his Elemental Power defenses. But Master Zhang had always relied on his physical body for defense.

Deep within the Demon Army, the two chatted as if no one else was around. "No problem. I’ll be waiting for your triumphant return!"

With that, his body slowly sank into the ground. Only then did the surrounding Demon Generals react, baring their fangs and charging at Wang Meng.

Wang Meng suddenly slammed a fist into the ground. A surge of power exploded outwards like a hurricane, while he shot into the air like a cannonball, soaring into the clouds and disappearing over the horizon.

Anyone who underestimated Wang Meng and Zhang Xiaojiang was a fool of the highest order. Hu Jing’s death had indeed provoked their true wrath, but their wrath was not that of a reckless brute. It was the kind that would make their enemies regret being born.

As one of the Five Great Demon Kings, Chi Qing’s power was astonishing. She could have put up a fight against Wang Meng in a direct confrontation. But if Wang Meng was determined to launch a sneak attack, almost no one could stop him. With Zhang Xiaojiang drawing her attention, Chi Qing could only be captured without a fight.

She had been far too confident in her own perception. Unless a god had come, Wang Meng was second to none in that regard.

In the past, Wang Meng would have disdained using such methods. But since someone had insisted on provoking him, there was nothing more to be said.

After the explosion, the bewildered Demons were left behind, but panic quickly spread.

One of the Five Demon Kings, Chi Qing, had been captured and possibly killed by Wang Meng in a single move. Her whereabouts were unknown.

This was madness.

The Demon Race was panicking, and the Cultivators in the heat of battle quickly noticed the problem. Just then, a figure flew out of the ground, chubby and round like a ball.

"Chi Qing has been slain! Heaven blesses the Holy Hall!"

Master Zhang’s roar might not have been particularly heroic, but his signature sky-filling Blast Arrows were truly one-of-a-kind.

Instantly, the entire Cultivator army erupted. What the hell were they waiting for? It was time to raise hell and slaughter them all!

With one side’s morale soaring and the other in chaos, the result was easy to imagine.

Most importantly, Wang Meng was fine. He was still alive. With Zhang Xiaojiang’s return, the Holy Hall immediately found its backbone. All the Holy Hall Disciples gathered toward Zhang Xiaojiang, killing anything that stood in their way.

In the Holy Hall, besides Wang Meng, only Zhang Xiaojiang had that kind of rallying power.

After a fierce battle, Zhang Xiaojiang also calmed down. If he went with Wang Meng on his mission, he would only be a burden. But he could take on another task: defending the Holy Hall.

Xie Tianhua’s heart finally settled. "Full-scale attack!"

This was an all-out assault, one that required every Bow Cultivator and Talisman Cultivator to be deployed.

For the first time, the resounding horns of a general offensive blared. All the Cultivators, who had been holding in a bellyful of anger, flew out as one.

In all the years of the Demon Race’s invasion, this was the most satisfying battle they had ever fought.

The Cyan Demon Corps was routed.

While this front was locked in a bitter struggle, the other fronts were not idle either.

The first to see action was the Saint Demon Castle, led by Mingren. Faced with Chi Zhu’s encroaching army, Mingren actually took the initiative to provoke him—in all sorts of ways.

The battle Chi Zhu had lost to Mingren was a complete failure of strategy. But it was more than that; Chi Zhu had nearly been captured by Mingren. If not for a Demon General sacrificing his life to block Mingren, and the sheer number of Demons, Chi Zhu would have met a miserable end.

Originally, Chi Zhu’s Steel Demon Corps was only meant to suppress them and prevent them from making any rash moves. But Mingren’s provocations were simply unbearable. If he endured it, he’d be too ashamed to show his face in public.

Hundreds of loud-mouthed members of the Yao Race roared, "Coward Chi Zhu, do you dare to fight a duel? Mingren will even give you a one-hand handicap!"

The Demon Race was naturally hot-tempered, and Chi Zhu, in particular, was proud of his status. This was utterly intolerable.

Although he wasn’t foolish enough to actually duel Mingren one-on-one, he couldn’t tolerate such a provocation without any reaction.

And so, suppression became a full-blown assault.

The Yao Race was very unified internally. Even if they had doubts, it wouldn’t affect their trust in Mingren’s judgment. This was a major difference from humans. As long as Mingren had won their respect, the Yao Race’s preferences were simple: they would follow him resolutely to the very end.

However, Chi Zhu’s Steel Demon Corps was no paper tiger. The quality of his Demons was quite high, with dozens of giant Demons leading the charge.

But the Yao Race were no pushovers either. Fundamentally, the Yao Race and the Demon Race were not too different, except the Yao Race wasn’t as bloodthirsty and xenophobic as the Demon Race.

Or rather, one could say the Demon Race was an enhanced, ancient version of the Yao Race.

In this moment, they were opponents. The cruelty and tyranny of the Demon Race had no effect on the Yao Race.

Giant beasts from among the Yao Race also charged forward to meet them. After all, things were not what they used to be; the Yao Race had declined significantly. But in recent years, the Star Alliance had taught the Yao Race how to use human combat methods.

The construction of Saint Demon Castle was also well-suited for the Yao Race. From the very beginning, the battle fell into a brutal stalemate.

With their combat styles being so similar, the only word to describe it was "brutal."

At times like this, the smile on Mingren’s face would grow ever more genuine. Ji Guang waited quietly by his side. The most elite Pure Land Knight Order had yet to move. But having been with Mingren for so long, he had always felt that Mingren was the one with a demon in his body. Even for a member of the Yao Race, seeing such a scene was, frankly, a bit maddening. Yet Mingren seemed to genuinely enjoy it from the bottom of his heart.

When flesh and blood flew, he seemed to find a sense of release, a kind of pleasure.

Mengg Lord and the Lord of Punishment led the army into battle, fearless in the face of death. They had already become the new generation of Yao Race leaders. This was something Mingren had accomplished.

Liao Qingqiu had seen Mingren’s potential. She had only one requirement for him: to leave behind new leaders for the Yao Race. She knew that Mingren didn’t care about these things and that once he fulfilled his wish, the Yao Race certainly wouldn’t be able to keep him.

Ji Guang was a little worried. Although the Yao Race was better off than the Dragon Race and had a strong ability to procreate, they couldn’t withstand this rate of attrition.

He didn’t want the Yao Race to become as rare as the Dragon Race after a major battle.

This battle was being fought without any tactical advantage.

The words reached the tip of his tongue, but Ji Guang forced them back down.

"If you have something to say, just say it. It must be uncomfortable holding it in."

Mingren quietly admired the scene of slaughter. The roars and flying flesh and blood seemed so serene to him.

This tranquility made Ji Guang’s hair stand on end. "I don’t understand. Why choose this kind of attack? There’s no strategy to it at all."

The Yao Race’s strength wasn’t enough to clash head-on with the Demon Race like this. The Mingren of the past had always used an endless stream of tactics. Why was he being so blunt this time? Provoking Chi Zhu wasn’t necessarily a good thing.

If Mingren’s true intention was to goad Chi Zhu into a duel, it was a bit naive. Chi Zhu was a Demon King, after all; he wasn’t that stupid.

Mingren smiled. "You’ll understand as the fight goes on."

Time passed, second by second. The Yao Race was poised and ready, while the Demon Race’s morale was sky-high. The two sides fought until the heavens and earth seemed to crack apart.

Yet, on Mingren’s side, there was a different kind of atmosphere.

On another battlefield, Jii Wanli and Chi Zhe remained motionless, their troops held in check. If Jii Wanli was the ambitious schemer of the Star Alliance, then Chi Zhe was his counterpart in the Demon Race. Among the Five Great Demon Kings, the most favored were Chi Zhu and Chi Huang. Even Chi Ying was deeply doted on by the Demon Lord. Only he, the second in command, was the unloved one. He possessed a wealth of intelligence but could only clean up Chi Zhu’s messes.

In the past, he certainly wouldn’t have had any opportunities. But things were different now. An opportunity was right in front of him. This war was his opportunity.
