I Pick up a Lost Godhood

Chapter 582 - 563: The Strongest Man

Wang Meng, in his Demon Transformation, froze. He saw Chi Ying and Hu Jing before him. He had a strange aura about him, but the moment his eyes fell on Hu Jing, it wavered.

Chi Ying tried to strike, but she found that she couldn’t move. ’This... How is this just like the might of a Demon God???’

Suddenly, Wang Meng gritted his teeth and struck out. The world blurred before Chi Ying’s eyes, and then she lost consciousness.

Wang Meng’s pupils contracted. The Qiankun Dragon Roar Moon Holy Statue thundered down toward the Demon Capital.

Annihilation Burst...

「On the outskirts of the Demon Capital.」

The scene was a mess. Shreds of clothing were scattered everywhere. Wang Meng lay quietly in Hu Jing’s arms, the Demonic Qi around him completely gone, sleeping like a baby.

Hu Jing gently caressed Wang Meng’s face. ’Only after brushing with death can you truly understand how precious life is.’ She was willing to give everything for the man in her arms.

Nearby, however, Chi Ying’s petite body was curled into a ball. She had never felt so helpless. The omnipotent Shadow Demon King had been reduced to a frightened child.

Hu Jing sighed. ’It’s just as Chi Ying said: the strong rule the weak. This is her fate now, whether she accepts it or not.’

Hu Jing, however, felt no pity. Compared to what the Demon Race had done, no price their enemies paid would ever be high enough.

She took an item of clothing from her Qiankun Bag and tossed it to Chi Ying. "Put this on. We’ll talk when he wakes up."

Chi Ying hesitated but took the clothes. Scenes from the previous night flashed before her eyes. Her struggles had been futile; she had been utterly conquered.

The pride of the Shadow Demon King had been completely shattered.

But that wasn’t what truly plagued her mind. ’Why do I see the shadow of the Demon God in this man?’

’Why does he possess such heaven-defying power!’

’That Heaven-devouring Demonic Qi... That method of consumption... Only a reincarnated Demon God should be able to do that!’

Yet, it had appeared in a human. If Chi Ying were just a simple member of the Demon Race, it might not have mattered, but she was far too intelligent.

She was in a state of chaos, a complete loss of control, both physically and mentally.

Chi Ying had never considered the Star Alliance weak, but she had never believed they could withstand the full might of the Demon Army either.

But now, all of that was meaningless. They couldn’t even overcome this single man.

Qiankun Dragon Roar Moon—three powers, all of them forbidden.

That alone would be one thing. No matter how strong someone was, as long as they weren’t a god, they could eventually be worn down. But what she had witnessed was the most terrifying part. If Wang Meng was pushed to the edge, his transformation into a Demon God would be a nightmare for the Demon Race, one that could even shatter the faith of the average Demon General.

.

’No one in the Demon Race can stop him. Even Chi Huang couldn’t withstand a single blow.’

She had always wondered how, with Chi Qing’s skills, he could have been captured, and how the vast Cyan Demon Corps could have been defeated.

An attack like that was truly impossible to block.

Hu Jing ignored Chi Ying, unconcerned with her thoughts. As long as this man was safe, she was content. She would have no regrets, even if she were to die in the next moment.

’This moment feels so warm, so blissful,’ she thought, ’just like the first time I saw him.’

His fiercely burning gaze had conquered her in an instant.

After years of waiting, an indescribable peace now filled Hu Jing’s heart.

Because they had never truly been apart. Distance and time had never been a barrier between them.

After a long moment, Chi Ying snapped out of her reverie with a terrifying realization: the man before her might just be able to... destroy the entire Demon Race.

If she had the strength, Chi Ying would have killed Wang Meng right then and there. But she didn’t have an ounce of energy left. She had passed out several times throughout the night. A blush spread across her snow-white skin at the thought. Her body was covered in bruises; a Wang Meng consumed by his Demon Attribute had shown her no mercy.

Hu Jing could understand Chi Ying’s complicated feelings. Though an enemy, Chi Ying was an outlier among the Demon Race. She spoke of grand ambitions, but she was likely the only one who didn’t want this war to be fought to the bitter end. The only problem was her conviction that the Demon Race would be the ultimate victor.

Wang Meng had told Hu Jing about how the Demonic Qi affected him, but she never imagined it would be this powerful. Still, it didn’t seem to be an entirely bad thing. This power was enough for a Reversal of Heaven and Earth, and apparently, there was a solution to its side effects.

Her thoughts trailed off as she glanced at Chi Ying. ’Who would have thought that the body of the Demon Princess could be the key to venting that berserk energy?’

"Little Sister Ying, it seems I can call you that now. While many in the Demon Race aren’t concerned with such things, I know the Demon King bloodline is. What do you plan to do?"

Hu Jing didn’t want to let this opportunity slip by. This was, without a doubt, the moment Chi Ying was at her most vulnerable. When armies clashed, the battle was waged at every second, on every front.

Chi Ying struggled to compose herself. "Who in the world is he?!"

Hu Jing smiled. "He is who you see before you. His name is Wang Meng, Sect Leader of the Holy Hall, future leader of the Star Alliance, and the strongest master in the world."

Hu Jing’s voice was as gentle as if she were confiding in a lover, filled with a soft pride and warmth. She wasn’t bragging; it was all simply fact.

"Is he really from the mortal realm?"

"Heh, I’m from the mortal realm, too. So is Zhang Xiaojiang."

To this day, since the three of them rose to fame, not just their enemies but even their allies found it incredible. It was nothing short of a miracle. Three people from the mortal realm, a place forgotten by the Small Thousand Realm, had risen to such heights.

They were prodigies among prodigies, completely defying the heavens.

"...That’s impossible. He has a Demon God Body..."

Chi Ying muttered to herself. The ultimate form of any Demon Technique was the direct consumption of Demonic Qi to gain world-shattering power. Chi Huang had been peerless in this regard, yet he had been utterly helpless against Wang Meng. The Demonic Qi summoned by his ultimate Primordial Demon Refining Technique had been completely absorbed. More terrifying still, Wang Meng was directly devouring Demonic Qi straight from the Abyss. No one should be able to wield it so directly.

And the Power of Laws he unleashed using that Demonic Qi was even more unnatural.

When combined, it was something no normal person could ever hope to withstand.

Suddenly, Chi Ying remembered: Chi Huang was dead. The Demon Capital was probably in utter chaos. Both she and Chi Qing were now captives. Of the Five Great Demon Kings, one was dead and two had been captured. What kind of turmoil would engulf the Demon Race?

Amid her anxiety, Chi Ying gave a bitter smile. ’With a man like him in the picture, what’s the point of worrying anymore?’ It wasn’t just Wang Meng. Mingren was no pushover, and the Beastkin Race he led was a formidable force. Furthermore, Mingren’s intellect was on par with Wang Meng’s, allowing him to anticipate enemy strategies from a thousand li away. And then there was the Dragon Race.

Although she had achieved some strategic successes against them, it was only because the Dragon Race had been holding back. In a direct confrontation, the Demon Race would have suffered grievous losses.

At a time like this, the main forces under Lin Jinghao’s and Jii Wanli’s command became the final straw that would break the camel’s back. And calling armies of their strength mere "straws" was a massive understatement.

’Perhaps the Demon Race’s decision to leave the Abyss this time was truly a mistake.’

Unless the Demon Lord could completely shatter the seal and emerge from the Abyss, the war was already lost.

The ancient wars had been nowhere near this complex. The Demon Race had amassed countless strategies from their struggles within the Abyss, but compared to the Star Alliance, they were amateurs. The Alliance’s defensive strategies had truly exhausted the forces of the Demon Race.

The Demons were said to be an endless tide, but their numbers were not truly infinite.

Chi Ying tried to banish these thoughts from her mind. She knew she had grown weak after this devastating blow, and weakness led to flawed judgment.

She was the strong Chi Ying. She remembered the parting words of her father, the Demon Lord.

"Ying’er, your eldest brother’s abilities are limited, but as the firstborn, he will treat you all well. Your second brother is overly clever but lacks the aura of a conqueror. If your third brother were the eldest, we might not have so many issues; he is a fine warrior but would not make a good ruler. You are too playful, your perspective too narrow. Only you, my youngest, possess a self-restraint rarely seen in our Demon Race. Once you are in the outer world, you must look after your brothers. Our Demon Race has endured millennia of hardship to finally emerge. We cannot fail now. We do not want to go back!"

Those were the words the incomparably dominant Demon Lord had left for Chi Ying before he went to face the Sealing Demon Array.

The Demon Race had been sealed away for far too long. Life in the Abyss was something the surface dwellers could never comprehend.

In truth, while the war involved many Demon Generals, the bulk of their forces were just Demons. In terms of actual population, the Demon Race was no match for the Star Alliance.

"Little sister, my offer still stands. If you’re willing to help, we can end this war. You can trust Wang Meng. He seems tyrannical, but he’s actually very soft-hearted. And given what happened between you... I don’t think he would be cruel to you, provided the Demon Race agrees to withdraw its army."

Chi Ying knew Hu Jing was a formidable woman. Half of the Holy Hall’s current success was due to her efforts.

A day ago, she would have dismissed such a proposal without a second thought. But now, her confidence was completely gone.

Chi Ying finished dressing and seemed to regain some of her composure. "I am only the fifth-ranked Demon King; I have no real authority. Even if we made a deal, it would be useless. Do you really think the other armies would listen?"

"You have to try. The Demon Race started this war when it emerged from the Abyss. A price must be paid."

"And why should the Demon Race have to stay in the Abyss?"

Hu Jing smiled wryly. "This isn’t about you or me. Like you said, the world doesn’t care about ’why.’ It’s survival of the fittest. But one thing you can count on is Wang Meng. He will always keep his word. And I believe you know as well as I do that he will become the leader of the Star Alliance!"

"There’s still Mingren and Lin Jinghao to consider!"

"Heh. Among the five of them, Linglong will certainly support Wang Meng. As for Mingren... we probably know him best. Leadership has never been his goal. So, I’d say we already have three votes secured. Of the remaining two, Jii Wanli has already lost once. And if Lin Jinghao wants a duel to settle things, then he’ll get one. That’s an internal affair for the Star Alliance."

Hu Jing spoke as things began moving in the direction she’d hoped. The man in her arms stirred. Wang Meng hadn’t slept so soundly or peacefully in days.

’This rascal,’ she thought. ’Sometimes he really manages to do the right thing by accident.’ The way Wang Meng had subjugated Chi Ying was cruel, but it had also shattered her impenetrable defenses. Of course, Hu Jing knew that wasn’t the true reason for this change. The root cause was Wang Meng’s power. His ability to devour Demonic Qi was something supposedly unique to the Demon God their race worshipped. That was what had truly shaken Chi Ying to her core.

Even so, Hu Jing didn’t dare underestimate Chi Ying. The Witch was one of the most terrifying adversaries she had ever encountered.

Chi Ying looked at Hu Jing and suddenly smiled. "Does this mean I’m your prisoner now?"

In that moment, the beauty radiating from Chi Ying left even Hu Jing dumbstruck. A peerless, bewitching siren.

Suddenly, Hu Jing realized she was looking at the greatest beauty of the Demon Race. The enchanting allure revealed beneath her vulnerability was a deadly weapon in itself. (To be continued. If you like this work, please come to Qidian.com to vote for it. Your support is my greatest motivation.)
