All good things must come to an end. The Nine Heavens Fire Simurgh beside him let out a long cry to the heavens, its wings spreading to blot out the sun and sky. It was a living Divine Beast.
It seemed even Eight Discount sensed the parting. No matter where Wang Meng went, he would not be coming back.
At that moment, Wang Meng appeared at Thunderlight Hall, in front of his own dilapidated thatched hut. The hut, battered by wind and rain, had lost its shape and become a forgotten corner of the world. But this place held all of Wang Meng’s memories.
Sanmao followed beside Wang Meng, feeling the dust-covered table and chairs. An indescribable feeling welled up in Wang Meng’s heart. He’d never realized he could be so sentimental.
’Do I really have to ascend?’
To be honest, Wang Meng had no direction at all, and no one could give him any. He had studied all sorts of Skill Techniques, hoping for a spark of enlightenment. In the end, he had pushed every Skill Technique to its absolute limit, yet all it did was increase his power. It had nothing to do with the Celestial Dao.
Wang Meng himself already controlled the Power of the Three Great Laws of the Small Thousand Realm. He was no different from a living god. Moreover, he could do as he pleased, completely unimpeded.
Having reached his current position, he understood a certain truth: laws had their limits, and beyond them existed even stronger laws.
Within the Small Thousand Realm, his laws were invincible. But what blocked his ascension had to be a greater law.
The cause and effect he controlled was like a small stream. No matter how it twisted and turned, it would always reach his desired destination. But compared to a more powerful law, his little stream was ultimately destined to flow into a great sea.
Others ascended passively, understanding the ’what’ but not the ’how’ or ’why’. But he couldn’t do that. He had to understand the direction of the sea.
Understanding was one thing; putting it into practice was another entirely. He had known this for a long time but couldn’t explain it to the others. Seeing everyone working so hard for his sake, Wang Meng didn’t want to disappoint them. A part of him even held onto a sliver of hope. ’What if?’
In the end, there was no ’what if’.
Wang Meng sat on the bed. THUMP. The bed collapsed. The number one person in the Small Thousand Realm landed flat on his butt on the floor.
Wang Meng looked at Sanmao. Sanmao looked at Wang Meng. He couldn’t help but throw his head back and roar with laughter.
In that moment, Wang Meng recalled the days when he had first arrived in the Small Thousand Realm, lying in a haystack and gazing at the stars. Suddenly, everything he couldn’t let go of, and everything he could, all faded away.
He was Wang Meng, just Wang Meng. As long as he was alive, his passion would never die. If the Power of Laws was an obstacle, then according to the Power of Laws, there must also be a solution. There was no lock in this world that couldn’t be opened, only the wrong key.
"Sanmao, tomorrow I’m taking you back to the Holy Hall. You’ll have to take care of yourself from now on."
Wang Meng knew he had to do this alone. He needed to focus meticulously on solving the problem, and concentration was crucial. With Zhao Lingxuan and the others to look after Sanmao, the little guy would surely live a happy life. In fact, Sanmao’s life was already pretty great. Who didn’t know he was Wang Meng’s friend? That little fella got free food and drinks wherever he went, having eaten his way through every major city. Sanmao was the only being who could freeload his way through human, Demon Race, and Dragon Race territories alike.
But upon hearing they were to be separated, Sanmao’s flames immediately drooped. His pitiful appearance was truly heartbreaking.
"Alright, stop pretending. I worry about the others, but you... you’re a natural optimist. Everything will be fine. First you lost the Saintess, and now you’re losing me, but you’ll make more friends in the future. Cheer up."
Wang Meng said with a smile. ’Even if I could ascend, I would be the last to leave, after making sure all my friends were taken care of. Actually, this is for the best. I can rest easy. Sanmao isn’t that intelligent, after all. He’ll forget after a while.’
Suddenly, as if pricked by a needle, Sanmao shot up. He flipped open his Qiankun Bag and began rummaging through it frantically. It was like a general store being robbed, with all sorts of things flying everywhere. Sanmao buried his head so deep inside he almost disappeared, finally pulling out an elegant, white silk brocade.
He hurriedly presented it to Wang Meng, gesticulating wildly.
Wang Meng stared blankly. "This is from the Saintess? For me?"
Sanmao nodded desperately, then rubbed his fur in embarrassment. So much had happened, and his memory wasn’t the best, so he had forgotten...
Wang Meng was speechless for a moment, then chuckled. It was probably nothing. Ordinary items no longer piqued his interest. At his level, it was no exaggeration to say that formlessness surpassed form. But since it was from the Saintess, it had to be different. After all, the Ninefold Heaven Saint Body was one of the most unique Sacred Bodies.
Wang Meng unrolled the brocade, and a sharp light flashed in his eyes.
He couldn’t help but let out a long cry to the heavens. To find something by chance after searching for it far and wide!
Wang Meng smiled and patted Sanmao’s head. "You little fool, you almost caused a huge disaster!"
Although Wang Meng possessed Divine Techniques, there was one ability of the Ninefold Heaven that he could not match: the Great Divine Technique of foresight.
The Saintess had saved him once. They had met only a single time. Although the Ninefold Heaven constitution was fragile, it possessed the ability for the soul to ascend. The Saintess hadn’t died; she had ascended. It was an alternative method of ascension. No wonder she had said they would meet again.
The information the Saintess left on the brocade told Wang Meng the direction of the "great sea."
It had to be said, having reached Wang Meng’s level and seen many strange people and events over the years, the ability of the Ninefold Heaven still startled him.
He wasn’t the only one who knew of the Three Realms. In fact, it seemed the Saintess knew even more than he did.
According to the Saintess’s brocade, the world was divided into two layers: the Spirit Realm and the Divine Realm.
The Spirit Realm was where all sorts of life existed, and the Small Thousand Realm was one part of it. The Divine Realm was the final destination. The ultimate goal for all life in the Spirit Realm—whether human, Demon, dragon, fiend, beast, or even other unbelievable existences—was the Divine Realm.
Although the Saintess didn’t know what the Divine Realm was actually like, she could sense it. Wang Meng believed this. Over the years, he too had come to a new understanding of the Three Realms Moo Shan had spoken of. It now seemed likely they were three different planes of existence that Moo Shan had experienced.
According to the Saintess’s knowledge, the Spirit Realm was divided into many different planes. Small Thousand Realms formed the foundation of the Spirit Realm. The Small Thousand Realm mentioned here was not the one belonging to the Star Alliance. Similar realms might exist across space, but they were isolated by the Power of Laws and could not be contacted. The living beings here could potentially enter the Divine Realm through cultivation.
But within the Spirit Realm, there also existed some special planes. They were very powerful and possessed their own isolated laws. The life within them pursued the same goal as those in the Small Thousand Realm—to ascend to the Divine Realm. However, their power and talent were completely different, and upon achieving godhood, their Godhood would also be different.
That wasn’t something one could choose.
Normally, ascension led directly to the Divine Realm. But for some with special constitutions, because of their unique nature, accidents could happen during ascension, causing them to enter other High Tier planes of the Spirit Realm.
The advantage was that ascending from a High Tier Spirit Realm plane would surely grant a higher-level Godhood. The disadvantage was that everything was unknown and filled with uncertainty.
The Middle Thousand World and Great Thousand World that Moo Shan spoke of were two completely different High Tier Spirit Realm planes. It had to be said, Moo Shan’s fate was quite tragic. Passing through two such realms in a row was truly harder than ascending to heaven, yet he still fell at the very edge of godhood.
The Great Thousand World was likely the highest plane within the Spirit Realm, the one closest to the Divine Realm. Ascending to godhood from there would, without a doubt, result in the purest quality of divinity.
The Saintess’s brocade didn’t offer any more details, because her Ninefold Heaven constitution could only sense so much. She couldn’t even control her own destiny, let alone Wang Meng’s.
But for Wang Meng, it was more than enough!
His Life Wheel wasn’t the problem preventing his ascension, nor was his Demigod Godhood. It was the combination of all these factors. He had become an anomaly, one that had never appeared before.
His direction was wrong. It was just like the Law of Cause and Effect he himself controlled. The reason he couldn’t ascend now was that his direction was wrong. His true direction was toward the High Tier Spirit Realm planes the Saintess had mentioned.
Enlightenment came in an instant. Wang Meng felt as though a door had opened.
Closing the brocade, Wang Meng smiled. Challenges, difficulties—he had never been afraid of them. No matter what awaited him, he knew that one day he would be reunited with Yang Ying, Hu Jing, Little Fatty, and the others. Nothing could stop him.
"Sanmao, thank you!"
Over the next few days, Wang Meng traveled between the Great Yuan Realm and the Four Directions Small Thousand World, taking care of his last remaining concerns. After a period of adjustment, Little Lingxuan had gradually grown accustomed to her new identity. With the Holy Hall’s current immense power and unity, there would be no problems. As for the future, any system must withstand the test of time.
He was finally about to bid farewell to the Small Thousand Realm and embark on an unknown journey. Perhaps it would lead to the places Moo Shan had experienced, perhaps not. It was full of uncertainty, but Master Wang would forge ahead fearlessly!
「Taiyuan Bone Land.」
Ranked seventh among the Ten Great Desolate Lands, it was filled with the grim White Bones of all kinds of demons, fiends, and Exotic Beasts. Bone-plant Exotic Beasts and Desolate Soul Demons rampaged through this desolate land.
Today, however, whether it was the mountainously powerful Bone-plant Exotic Beasts or the terrifying, incorporeal Desolate Soul Demons, not a single one was to be seen.
In the center of the desolate land, two majestic figures faced each other in a standoff.
"Fire Old Ghost, is there any need to continue this fight? Let’s just call it a draw this time."
"Water Ghost, are you trying to smooth things over again? Absolutely not this time!"
"Pah! I’m afraid you can’t afford to lose! If you’re so eager to ascend to the heavens, then I’ll grant your wish!"
After that brief exchange, the two opposing figures abruptly vanished. When they reappeared, they had already clashed!
In the sky, wondrous phenomena appeared one after another. On one side were monstrous, towering waves; on the other, a volcano incinerating the heavens. In the zone between them was a surging, turbulent energy! Water and fire, two opposing forces, devoured each other, reducing themselves back to the most fundamental, attributeless energy.
At this moment, neither of the two dueling Emperors noticed that below the central zone, in a mountain ravine, a person was lying there. To be precise, it was a Deadman.
However, at this moment, the body was continuously absorbing the attributeless True Energy from the sky. This was causing the body, which had already lost all signs of life, to revive. But the body’s original soul had long since dissipated. Even if its life force was restored, it couldn’t truly be considered alive.
Just a few meters above this body, a pitch-black void opened up. Immediately, a fist-sized Primordial Spirit shot out from within, followed by a surge of energy containing a great will. However, the moment this energy entered this world, it immediately dissolved into nothingness, without causing even the slightest ripple.
