Big Mom’s sudden outburst threw everyone nearby into panic. They thought she had inexplicably suffered another food craving episode. When Big Mom had one of those episodes, it was terrifying. She would lose all reason and attack everything around her, sparing not even her own sons.
But she had just finished eating, so she shouldn’t have had a food craving episode.
However, after Big Mom finished roaring, her eyes remained clear. Only then did those around her let out a sigh of relief, realizing that she wasn’t having an episode—she had simply been too angry.
After venting her fury, Charlotte Linlin did not let out any more strange screams. Although the death of her disobedient younger brother made her furious, there were more important matters now.
"Since Kaido is dead, let’s take Wano," Charlotte Linlin said.
Since Kaido was dead, rather than letting others take over his territory, she might as well claim it herself.
...
Whitebeard Pirates.
"That monster Kaido actually died. The Beasts Pirates are finished." Marco looked at today’s newspaper with complete disbelief.
The Devil Fruit he had eaten was the Bird-Bird Fruit, Mythical Zoan, Phoenix Model.
That fruit gave him vitality beyond what ordinary people could imagine.
Even so, if he had to compare his vitality with Kaido’s, Marco wasn’t very confident.
Yet today’s news reported that Kaido had died at the hands of the newly appointed Marine Admiral. For a moment, Marco found it hard to believe and even wondered if it was fake news.
Not every newspaper report was true. Fake news was nothing unusual, since the World Government controlled the high ground of public opinion.
"Oh, Kaido is already dead?" Whitebeard seemed to think of something after hearing it.
Not long ago, the White Devil had reached an agreement with them. The White Devil would eliminate the Beasts Pirates, and in return, the Whitebeard Pirates would assist the Revolutionary Army once.
So how had Kaido ended up being killed by the Marines?
Could it be that the Revolutionary Army had obtained intelligence from within the Marines, which was why they made that agreement?
Since Nagasawa had approached the Whitebeard Pirates using the White Devil identity, they did not know that the Admiral was actually Nagasawa.
Marco nodded, handed the newspaper to Whitebeard, and everyone else curiously gathered around.
After reading it, Whitebeard frowned slightly. The newspaper’s contents were somewhat exaggerated. A single Marine Admiral had defeated the Beasts Pirates, killed Kaido on the spot, and even captured King, one of the Three Calamities.
Whitebeard believed Kaido had died because the Marines already possessed his corpse. He also believed the Beasts Pirates were finished. After all, Kaido was dead, King had been captured, and with Jack having been captured previously, only Queen’s whereabouts remained unknown. The Beasts Pirates were undoubtedly finished.
However, Whitebeard remained skeptical about the claim that only a single Marine Admiral had been deployed. It wasn’t that he completely disbelieved it—he did believe there were people in this world capable of such feats.
Still, he felt it was more likely that the Marines were deliberately promoting it this way to make themselves appear stronger.
"Then our agreement with the Revolutionary Army..." one member of the Whitebeard Pirates said hesitantly.
Although the agreed objective had indeed been accomplished, it wasn’t the Revolutionary Army that had done it—it was the Marines.
At that moment, Whitebeard burst into laughter.
"Whether the Revolutionary Army obtained advance intelligence from inside the Marines or was simply incredibly lucky, a promise is a promise. When the time comes, we’ll help them once."
The members of the Whitebeard Pirates erupted into cheers, all praising their old man’s boldness.
Marco was among them.
In truth, no matter what choice Whitebeard made, Marco could understand it.
"The White Horse Admiral who killed Kaido, and the White Devil who can rival Pops... monsters just keep appearing one after another," Marco sighed.
Even if the White Horse Admiral hadn’t single-handedly led the force that defeated the Beasts Pirates, Marco still believed the White Horse Admiral must possess extraordinary abilities.
This was a world where the strong ruled.
Since the World Government had chosen to promote the White Horse Admiral, there had to be a reason.
Just like how many officials within the World Government had wanted Akainu to become Fleet Admiral, yet they couldn’t ignore the opinions within the Marines. In the end, Akainu and Aokiji fought, Akainu won, and only then was his position as Fleet Admiral confirmed.
Ace scratched his head.
"So what do we do now? I was planning to go find King the Wildfire and have a proper fight with him. I didn’t expect him to be captured by the Marines already."
With his great enemy disappearing out of nowhere, Ace instead felt strangely empty inside.
He had originally planned to train for a while before going after King, but now the entire Beasts Pirates were finished.
Hearing Ace’s battle-hungry remark, Marco laughed loudly.
"Kaido is dead, King and Jack have been captured, but there’s still no news about Queen. There should still be some remnants of the Beasts Pirates left. It’s the perfect time to let them experience what it feels like to be kicked while they’re down."
Previously, the Beasts Pirates had tried to stop the Whitebeard Pirates from rescuing Ace, hoping to kick them while they were down.
Now it was the Beasts Pirates’ turn to suffer.
Marco naturally had no intention of showing mercy and wanted to wipe out the remaining members of the Beasts Pirates.
Showing mercy to your enemies was being cruel to yourself.
"Queen, huh? Hopefully he isn’t as weak as Jack."
Ace curled the corner of his mouth upward as flames unconsciously ignited in his hand.
...
Kuraigana Island.
After finishing his Breathing Style training, Mihawk brewed himself a pot of black tea and sat in his chair reading today’s newspaper.
When he saw the news that Nagasawa had killed Kaido, his eyes flickered, but he did not appear particularly surprised.
Judging by the strength Nagasawa had displayed that day, killing Kaido was not impossible, so Mihawk wasn’t overly shocked.
After resting for a while, Mihawk resumed his training.
He intended to surpass the mountain that was Nagasawa and reach an entirely new realm.
...
Revolutionary Army, Dragon’s office.
"Kaido is dead! He was killed by Admi... no, Admiral Nagasawa!" Sabo excitedly rushed into Dragon’s office holding the latest newspaper.
Hearing Sabo’s words, Dragon also smiled happily.
Nagasawa had already told him about the plan before. In order to strengthen Nagasawa’s influence within the World Government and the Marines, he intended to defeat the Beasts Pirates.
Although he already knew, Dragon still took the newspaper and began reading it.
He appeared calm on the surface, but inwardly he was quite excited.
Nagasawa had really done it.
He had successfully defeated the Four Emperor crew, the Beasts Pirates, with nothing more than a group of ordinary Marines.
As for the so-called "heroic Marine members" mentioned in the newspaper, Dragon didn’t see a single one capable of making a difference.
It had undoubtedly all been Nagasawa’s doing.
Looking at the newspaper headline, "The Marine Hero of the New Era," the smile on Dragon’s face became even brighter.
Without question, Nagasawa’s plan had succeeded!
Now Nagasawa was no longer merely a Marine Admiral.
With the achievement of defeating Kaido, Nagasawa would become the most prestigious figure in the Marines of the new era.
Nagasawa wouldn’t even need to deliberately expand the Revolutionary Army’s influence.
When the time came, if Nagasawa simply raised his arm in a call to action, there would probably be Marines willing to answer him.
That was the power of prestige and reputation.
"Nagasawa’s progress is moving so quickly. We can’t fall behind either. How are things progressing in Wano?" Dragon asked.
Nagasawa had previously said they should also pay attention to the strength of non-member nations.
After comparing various options, Dragon ultimately chose Wano.
However, the prerequisite for the Wano plan was that Nagasawa had to deal with Kaido first.
Otherwise, trying to start a revolution right under Kaido’s nose would be rather difficult.
The reason Dragon chose Wano was very simple.
Wano was powerful enough.
Located in the latter half of the Grand Line, the New World, Wano was a unique region with no outer coastline, only towering cliffs and waterfalls surrounding it.
Beyond them lay an inland sea containing Wano’s main island and Onigashima.
Under normal circumstances, even Marine warships couldn’t reach Wano.
Thanks to its unique geographical advantages, combined with its formidable samurai forces, Wano had long enforced a policy of national isolation.
It never welcomed outsiders and had never joined the World Government.
If they could develop some Revolutionary Army influence there, it would be excellent.
If the entire nation of Wano could become part of the Revolutionary Army, that would be even better.
Sabo shook his head.
"We found some of the retainers who had once served Kozuki Oden, the former ruler of Wano. We discovered that the feudal samurai mentality there is simply too deeply rooted. Ordinary liberation methods probably won’t work."
Just persuading those samurai to accept their assistance had already been extremely difficult.
If they started talking about revolution, Sabo suspected those people might think the Revolutionary Army had come to steal their country.
Dragon smiled.
"It’s fine. There’s no rush in that regard. First, we’ll ally with them under the pretext of helping them deal with Kurozumi Orochi and fight the World Government together. Then we’ll gradually develop revolutionary strength among the common people of Wano."
Dragon had great confidence in the Revolutionary Army as it existed today.
He believed that everyone who looked toward the future with hope and was willing to take action would never ignore the Revolutionary Army.
In the end, the people would make their own choice.
The Revolutionary Army would eventually defeat the World Government.
It was no longer a question of whether they could do it, but only when they would.
...
This time, Nagasawa had made both himself and Tina famous.
Even while sitting in his office, there was a constant stream of visitors coming to see him.
Even someone like Fujitora came to congratulate him after hearing of Nagasawa’s achievements, though his reason differed from everyone else’s.
Fujitora congratulated Nagasawa because one Pirate Emperor had disappeared from the world, meaning many people oppressed by Kaido would finally find relief.
The countries of the New World had also lost one tyrant who had ruled over them.
It wasn’t because Nagasawa had achieved an unprecedented feat or because the Marines had destroyed a Four Emperor crew and killed a Four Emperor for the first time.
Naturally, Nagasawa didn’t miss such a good opportunity and took the chance to instill quite a few of his ideals into Fujitora.
Fame certainly had its advantages.
Even Akainu, who didn’t get along with Nagasawa, had to consider the cost of arguing with him during this period.
Since the position above Admiral was Fleet Admiral, and Akainu had only recently become Fleet Admiral and was still in his prime, there was naturally no possibility of him stepping down.
Therefore, Nagasawa couldn’t receive another promotion.
Although he couldn’t be promoted, the World Government was not stingy with other rewards.
Leaving aside the bonus, the personnel transfer requests Nagasawa had been submitting for a long time were finally approved.
People like Smoker and Ryokugyu would now serve under him.
Harvesting Devil Fruits would become extremely convenient.
Smoker was originally furious when he was suddenly informed that he was being transferred back to Marine Headquarters.
He had even planned to ignore the order.
After Vergo’s undercover identity was exposed, Smoker, as a Marine Vice Admiral, had succeeded him as the commander of G-5, becoming the base commander of the G-5 Marine Base.
Smoker was quite satisfied with G-5.
Being the boss himself meant he didn’t have to listen to his superiors nagging him all the time.
Smoker knew his own personality well enough.
He knew his temper often angered his superiors, but he had no intention of changing it.
However, after learning that the transfer request had come from Admiral Nagasawa, Smoker decided to meet the Marine Admiral who had defeated one of the Four Emperors.
Standing on the deck of the Marine warship, Smoker lit a cigar and quietly watched as Marine Headquarters drew closer.
"Admiral Nagasawa always carries a sword at his waist. I wonder if he’s also a Great Swordsman," Tashigi said.
She was Smoker’s direct subordinate and usually followed him wherever he went.
Smoker bit down on his cigar and glanced over calmly.
"Probably. Judging from the wound on Kaido’s corpse in the newspaper, there’s a good chance he died from a sword slash."
Hearing Smoker’s words, Tashigi smiled happily.
Before she could say anything else, however, the warship had already docked.
After arriving at Marine Headquarters, Smoker took Tashigi to report to Tina.
Smoker and Tina had been classmates and were quite familiar with each other.
Holding a cigarette between her fingers, Tina smiled.
"You’re still the same. You haven’t changed much."
Smoker exhaled a cloud of smoke before replying,
"I’ve only been at G-5 for a year. How much could I possibly have changed?"
"Teacher Zephyr was asking me about you before..."
The two began catching up.
"Teacher Zephyr, huh? How is he doing these days?" Smoker asked.
"He’s doing quite well. Teacher Zephyr has gone back to being an instructor, training new Marine recruits again," Tina replied.
"Those recruits are going to have a hard time then."
Smoker smiled faintly while clenching his cigar.
Zephyr’s teaching ability was truly exceptional.
Precisely because he taught so strictly, hardship was unavoidable.
Not to mention Garp was there as well.
"From now on, you’ll be under Tina’s command. If you disobey orders, Tina won’t be happy," Tina said with a smile.
"Since when does a Rear Admiral command a Vice Admiral?" Smoker curled his lip.
Although he was a branch Vice Admiral, the ranks of New World Marine branches were equivalent to those of Marine Headquarters, unlike the branches in the Four Seas.
"I’ll be promoted to Vice Admiral very soon. The appointment order will arrive shortly," Tina said.
She was Nagasawa’s deputy.
Since Nagasawa had earned such tremendous merit, Tina had benefited greatly from it.
Even though she had only recently been promoted to Rear Admiral, Marine Headquarters had still decided to promote her again.
"As long as you don’t make me do something I don’t want to do. You should know what I’m talking about," Smoker said.
"I’ll do my best," Tina replied.
"Next, I’ll take you to meet Admiral Nagasawa. I hope you don’t have any unrealistic expectations about him, or you might end up disappointed."
