Noir looked at Amanises and took a deep breath; very slowly, he lifted one of his front paws.

’Come on...’

’Don’t lose it.’

’Don’t pass out.’

’And, please... Don’t make a fool of yourself in front of her.’

The golden sphere gave off a faint glimmer, as if it were already preparing to laugh at whatever was about to happen.

’All right. If she could do it... so can I.’

The little dragon recalled every word Amanises had just explained.

Mana. Control. Structure.

The first step was to gather enough mana.

Noir closed his eyes and immediately felt the energy filling the Magic Valley.

It was impossible not to feel it; it flowed among the trees, through the mana snow, and within the earth... Even around Amanises.

The little dragon breathed slowly, and mana began to gather around its tiny claw.

***

Amanises watched in silence. It was... too fast.

Normally, a beginner would need several minutes to clearly sense the flow of mana.

Noir had only been there for a few seconds.

’Just as I’d expect from a dragon...’

But even though he was a dragon, she knew he shouldn’t be learning so quickly, which only made her even more eager to teach him more magic—even though she knew it was too soon.

’And dragons don’t learn by listening to stories.’

Amanises recalled the words of an old friend, spoken during one of her travels as she spoke to a young, talented dragon:

"Dragons learn by living, discovering, exploring, and wanting to know what this world has in store for them."

However, Noir was facing the hardest part.

***

Noir felt the mana slowly coursing through one of his front legs as he heard Amanises’ calm voice.

"Now imagine the structure you just saw. Don’t try to force the mana... guide it."

The little black dragon nodded and began to guide that energy carefully, as if following a river’s course.

At first, the flow was unstable, but his Draconic Senses allowed him to perceive even the slightest variation in the mana. Little by little, the energy stopped resisting and eventually obeyed his will.

A tiny glowing orb appeared on his claw.

Amanises’ gray eyes opened slightly.

"On the first try...?"

Noir slowly opened his eyes, and when he saw the small sphere floating before him, a huge smile spread across his face.

’It worked! HAHAHA! I knew I was a genius!’

For a few seconds, everything seemed stable.

But then... Something changed.

The small orb began to vibrate.

It wasn’t a structural flaw.

It was something else.

The mana began to reorganize on its own, slowly breaking away from the human form Noir had created. It was as if an invisible force were correcting it.

Noir frowned.

’Huh...?’

He felt a familiar tingling sensation rising from his chest to his throat.

The small sphere began to contract on its own and grow much more intense; its glow became much brighter.

Amanises immediately frowned.

"Noir!"

But it was already too late.

Without understanding what was happening... without even trying to cast a spell... the little dragon opened its mouth slightly.

And a single word escaped his lips.

"Light."

¡¡FWOOOOM!!

All the manna snow in the garden was sent flying in every direction. A column of white light shot across the sky for a brief moment before disappearing.

The garden was completely illuminated.

The puppy fell backward in shock, and the golden orb spun around three times, completely thrilled.

Amanises... She watched the phenomenon without taking her eyes off Noir.

"He didn’t use human magic... His instinct took over the entire structure to use the Dragon Language."

Noir kept staring at the light with a triumphant look. A second later... He felt the world start to spin.

His legs began to tremble. All the mana he had in reserve... had vanished.

He tried to take a step, but couldn’t; he had no strength left in his body; he felt only overwhelming exhaustion, and his consciousness was beginning to fade.

He fell face-first onto the grass. He lay motionless for several seconds; then he slowly raised a claw, which dropped instantly, and he eventually lost consciousness completely.

***

When his mana reserves were fully restored, Noir slowly opened his eyes; the first thing he saw was a beautiful sky and abundant mana in the air.

’This is the second time this has happened to me...’

The little dragon stood motionless for a few seconds.

’I fainted again—and this time because I used human magic. Who would have thought?’

He let out a long, weary sigh, wagged his tail calmly, and began to review what he had done with absurd seriousness.

What had he done wrong? Noir had followed every step Amanises had taught him; so why had he fainted after completing the spell?

The little black dragon turned its head slightly. A few meters away, the white cub was sleeping, stretched out flat on a rug.

The golden sphere was floating above him. And, surprisingly, it wasn’t laughing.

"Now you’re really worrying me."

The sphere flashed indignantly, as if to say, "What?" It was a very polite sphere.

Noir smiled and, of course, didn’t believe it in the slightest. Is the golden sphere being polite? Had it perhaps been reincarnated as a slime?

The sphere shot forward, filled with indignation, and stuck to his face, demanding an apology for having hurt its beautiful feelings.

"You’re awake."

Noir sat up a little and looked to the side.

Amanises was approaching, holding a small porcelain cup from which a pleasant herbal scent wafted.

"Do you remember what happened?"

"Yes. I followed the steps exactly, but where did I go wrong?"

Amanises took a sip of her tea and said:

"You didn’t fail."

"I didn’t?"

For a few seconds, she gazed at the snow of manna that continued to fall on the white forest, and then she went on.

"The structure was right; the control was right, too. What went wrong... was something else. It was your instinct."

Noir remained completely still.

"My instinct?"

"Yes."

Amanises slowly clasped her hands around the cup.

"You were trying to construct a human spell. But the moment the structure was complete... you did what any dragon would do naturally."

The woman’s gray eyes met Noir’s.

"You spoke."

The little dragon felt all the pieces begin to fall into place.

"So... did my own body break the spell?"

"Not exactly."

Amanises calmly shook her head and conjured a small, glowing rune in the palm of her hand.

"Humans use structures to approach a True Word."

The rune began to form a tiny magic circle.

"Dragons don’t need that path."

With a simple flick of her fingers, the structure vanished.

"When your instinct recognized what you were trying to do... it simply took the most direct path."

"Dragon Language..." Noir slowly opened his eyes.

"Exactly. That proves two things. First... you’re a real dragon, and second, if you really want to learn human magic, you’ll have to learn to control that instinct."

Noir blinked, somewhat confused at the thought that his own race might be his limitation, but instead of discouraging him, it excited him even more; it was already a challenge for him.

"So I have to control it..."

"Yes. Because as long as your nature continues to replace any human structure automatically... you’ll never finish a spell."

Amanises calmly folded her hands.

"The Dragon Language is the only form of magic capable of communicating directly with the world. The other races need intermediaries."

Noir nodded slowly. First, he would have to learn to control his draconic instincts. Only then could he follow the same path as the human mages.

Since he is a dragon, he was born without needing to learn any other way to use a word. That is why his instinct considers all of that... unnecessary.

The little dragon let out a long sigh and murmured:

"I have a long way to go..."
