I See Murders Before They Happen
Chapter 132 - 130: Wanting to Take It All on HimselfChapter 132: Chapter 130: Wanting to Take It All on Himself
Police Headquarters.
Interrogation Room.
Zheng Hui sat in the interrogation chair.
After the basic questions, Zhuang Yanzheng asked, "Why did you want to kill Su Miaoyi?"
Zheng Hui rolled his neck. "Who’s Su Miaoyi?"
Zhuang Yanzheng’s gaze faltered for a moment before he asked again, "Why did you try to kill someone at Weiyang Palace tonight?"
Zheng Hui chuckled. "Because I felt like it, of course."
"Why did you feel like it?"
"Because she’s beautiful," Zheng Hui said.
Zhuang Yanzheng frowned.
Zheng Hui said with a smile, "She’s a beautiful woman, with a beautiful neck."
As he spoke, his smile grew more sinister. "Such a beautiful neck... to take a rope and tighten it, bit by bit... watching her slowly lose her breath, watching her pretty face twist in terror and suffocation."
Zheng Hui closed his eyes and laughed. "Don’t you think that’s a joyful thing?"
He grew more and more excited as he spoke. "Watching her slowly stop breathing, leaving a mark on her neck that I made... a mark that belongs to me on such a beautiful neck. HAHAHAHA! It’s like a masterpiece from my own hands."
Outside the interrogation room, Su Miaoyi listened to his declaration.
She couldn’t hide the disgust and revulsion on her face.
Just as she was grimacing in disgust, Lu Zhishen walked over.
She turned her head.
The night was a bit cold. Lu Zhishen was wearing a thick jacket with a high collar.
Half his face was hidden beneath it.
"How was he caught?" Lu Zhishen asked.
"He came to kill me," Su Miaoyi said.
Lu Zhishen stood beside her, looking into the interrogation room.
More than ten years had passed.
This man’s face had been seared into his memory.
It was him.
He just looked a little older than before.
Lu Zhishen picked up a pair of headphones. "Is it Jiang Yaozu or Jiang Junrui?"
Su Miaoyi shook her head. "It’s hard to say. Zheng Hui seems determined to take all the blame himself."
Lu Zhishen put on the headphones.
Inside the interrogation room, Zhuang Yanzheng asked, "So how did you find her? Where did you see her?"
"Forgot. Don’t remember where I saw her," Zheng Hui said. "As for how I found her, that was way too easy. Isn’t it a piece of cake to find out what neighborhood someone lives in these days?"
"You’re lying," Zhuang Yanzheng said. "Confess. Who put you up to this?"
"Why would I need someone to put me up to it? I’ve always done whatever I want. Instigate me? No one tells me what to do," Zheng Hui raised his voice.
"What’s your relationship with Jiang Yaozu?" Zhuang Yanzheng asked.
"Jiang Yaozu?" Zheng Hui thought for a moment. "The one from Jiangcheng?"
"What’s your relationship with him?" Zhuang Yanzheng asked.
"I was his driver for a few days," Zheng Hui said after another moment of thought. "Must’ve been three or four years ago. I was looking for a job, and he saw I was skilled, so he had me work as his bodyguard and driver."
"And after that?" Zhuang Yanzheng asked.
"After that?" Zheng Hui said. "It was too boring. I wasn’t his only driver and bodyguard. Sigh... let me tell you. I used to think backstabbing and scheming only happened where there were a lot of women. Turns out, it’s the same with a lot of men."
"We were both just drivers, all we had to do was drive the car well, right? But what happened? The other guy, just because he’d been driving longer, belittled and made things difficult for me at every turn. Aren’t we both just drivers? Who’s nobler than who? He took all the credit for the good stuff and pushed all the blame for the bad stuff onto me."
"He was always trying to find a way to get rid of me." Zheng Hui smiled. "Fine. I could leave, but he had to leave too. And his departure had to be more... permanent. So... I staged a car accident, burned him to death in the car, and made him ’leave’."
"He’s a tough nut to crack," Lu Zhishen said from outside.
Su Miaoyi didn’t say anything.
"But our investigation shows that you were the one who died in that car accident," Zhuang Yanzheng said.
"The body was burned to a crisp. What could they possibly identify? I was all alone, and they couldn’t find anyone to run a DNA comparison," Zheng Hui said. "I let him die in my place, so I became a dead man. It was a good way to clear myself of suspicion."
"Jiang Yaozu lost two drivers—one dead, one missing. Why didn’t he investigate? They couldn’t find family to match your DNA, but what about the other guy? Couldn’t they find his?" Zhuang Yanzheng said. "This lie of yours is full of holes."
"Everything I’ve said is true," Zheng Hui said. "As for how they investigated it later, isn’t that the Jiangcheng police’s business? What does it have to do with me? It’s better if they couldn’t find anything, right? I’d be happy if they didn’t. They handled everything that came after; it had nothing to do with me."
Zhuang Yanzheng narrowed his eyes.
Zheng Hui laughed. "Officer, do you have a grudge against Jiang Yaozu? You seem pretty desperate to drag him into this."
Zhuang Yanzheng glanced at him. "Seventeen years ago, where were you?"
"That long ago?" Zheng Hui frowned in thought. "Hard to say. I’m the type who goes everywhere."
"Jiangcheng. Yujin Avenue. Number 12 Taohua Road," Zhuang Yanzheng said.
Zheng Hui’s frown deepened. "Oh, that massive villa."
"Did you know them?" Zhuang Yanzheng asked.
"Didn’t know them. Well, I guess you could say I did... They were such prominent figures in Jiangcheng. I’d heard some things, knew a little about them," Zheng Hui said.
"Why did you kill the family of three?" Zhuang Yanzheng asked.
"You guys found out about that too?" Zheng Hui said with a smile. "You’re much better than the ones in Jiangcheng."
"Stop smirking," Zhuang Yanzheng said sharply. "Why did you kill the family of three?"
"Same reason as tonight. The woman was beautiful, and I’d been watching her for a long time," Zheng Hui said. "She had a beautiful neck, too, you know? When I hung her, I watched the rope tighten bit by bit. After me, no one else would ever get to see that beautiful neck again."
Lu Zhishen’s hands, hanging at his sides, slowly clenched into fists. The veins on his forehead bulged.
"But after you entered the villa, you attacked the man first," Zhuang Yanzheng said.
"Yeah. When I went in, I only saw the man. He saw me, so of course I had to kill him," Zheng Hui said.
"What about the child?" Zhuang Yanzheng asked. "The child wasn’t there at the time. Why did you specifically go looking for him and kill him too? The child didn’t see you."
Zhuang Yanzheng pressed on, "According to your story, after killing someone, you should have left immediately out of fear of being discovered, not lingered in the villa to look for someone else."
Zheng Hui said, "Can’t I have just wanted to kill him?! Is that a problem?!"
Zhuang Yanzheng said, "You once witnessed someone being strangled to death with a rope, didn’t you? Was that person very important to you?"
At his sudden question, a flicker appeared deep in Zheng Hui’s eyes.
"The memory is seared too deeply into your mind, which is why you always kill this way. But that’s not the reason you kill," Zhuang Yanzheng said. "Who put you up to it?"
Zheng Hui seemed to recall something.
His initial arrogance and nonchalance vanished, and his flippant expression turned serious.
"Who put you up to it?" Zhuang Yanzheng asked again. "Your story has too many holes. Your skills may be better than Cao Hong’s, but your mind and your way of speaking are inferior to his."
Zheng Hui looked at him. "Who’s Cao Hong?"
Zhuang Yanzheng’s expression was cold and heavy. "Playing dumb won’t get you through this interrogation. The people behind you... not a single one will escape."
