Chapter 302: Chapter 155: Proportion (Part 2)

After Liu Zhiben finished speaking,

it was Wu Song’s turn. Following the others’ lead, he handed a document to Jiang Miao and took out a small notebook. "Boss, I met with five agricultural supply companies. They pitched us fertilizers, pesticides, and plastic mulch."

Jiang Miao glanced at it, then looked up and asked, "Are there samples?"

"Yes."

A moment later, Wu Song’s assistant came in carrying several boxes. They had been left behind by the sales representatives from the agricultural supply companies that had visited over the past few days.

The corrugated cardboard boxes were labeled with the company names.

Jiang Miao opened one of the boxes and checked it against the product brochure the company had provided. He wasn’t too concerned about the price; with information so readily available online, it was unlikely they would intentionally inflate their prices.

What he truly cared about was the product’s quality and the concentration of its active ingredients.

At Nanhu Farm and Nanfen Farm, they kept a small sample every time they tested new fertilizers and pesticides. At the end of the month, these samples were sent in a batch to company headquarters. A few suppliers who tried to be clever had been personally dropped by Jiang Miao, who then had the legal department report them for selling counterfeit and substandard products.

Counterfeit and substandard products were less of an issue with pesticides, mainly because most now came in individual, often small, packages.

However, counterfeit and substandard fertilizers were far more common, especially when purchased in bulk.

After examining the products from the five agricultural supply companies, Jiang Miao identified several issues.

The phosphate fertilizer sample from one company had an overstated phosphorus content; the compound fertilizer from another was adulterated; and a herbicide sold by a third contained a nationally banned ingredient.

He shook his head. "These products are cheap, but I don’t trust them. Da Song, I want you to pull together a team and set up an agricultural supply procurement office. Go directly to the manufacturers to purchase the fertilizers and pesticides we need. Don’t buy from these small-time suppliers. Our demand is large enough that the factories will give us a discount. There’s no need to play games with these companies. It’s a waste of brain cells."

"Good idea. I’ll make the arrangements tomorrow," Wu Song said, jotting it down in his notebook.

Jiang Miao turned to Lü Weibin. "Old Lü, what’s the situation on your end?"

Lü Weibin got straight to the point. "Yesterday at noon, the sales manager from Zoomlion Heavy Industry brought a team to visit us. They pitched their company’s tractors, sprinkler systems, and combine harvesters. I’m not too familiar with their specific products, so I asked them to stay for a few days and wait for someone from the procurement department to arrive."

"Oh? They didn’t try to sell us any excavators or bulldozers?" Jiang Miao asked with a smile.

After all, Zoomlion Heavy Industry and Sany Heavy Industry were fierce rivals. To sidestep the intense competition, Sany Heavy Industry had even moved its headquarters to the Capital City.

Lü Weibin smiled and shook his head. "No. They must know we already purchased our construction equipment from Sany Heavy Industry."

"Good. Their rivalry is their own business," Jiang Miao said. "As long as the quality of the equipment is guaranteed, it doesn’t matter whose we use." He had no particular preference for either company.

"Boss, here’s the agricultural machinery brochure from Zoomlion Heavy Industry."

Jiang Miao took the thick brochure and glanced through it.

Zoomlion Heavy Industry’s range of agricultural machinery was quite extensive: agricultural tractors, seeders, harvesters, sprinkler systems, and crop protection drones.

Clearly, Zoomlion Heavy Industry’s sales department had done their homework on Hailufeng Company. They knew Hailufeng had purchased construction equipment from Sany Heavy Industry, but not agricultural machinery. That was because Sany Heavy Industry didn’t yet have a mature line of farm equipment.

For instance, a 400-meter center-pivot irrigation system was an indispensable piece of equipment for a large farm. A single unit cost over a million yuan and could irrigate 60 to 180 mu per day.

To ensure timely irrigation, the entire Tamin Chagan Farm would need to be equipped with hundreds of these systems.

However, Jiang Miao didn’t need to be personally involved in these negotiations; he could leave them to the procurement department.

In any case, they needed to purchase sprinkler systems, tractors, combine harvesters, seeders, and crop protection drones. The cost would easily run into the hundreds of millions.

...

「March 22nd. Jiang Miao’s second day back at the Tamin Chagan Base.」

Once again, Jiang Miao met with Gao Meng and the others in the same temporary office as the day before.

Also in the meeting room was the inconspicuous head of the Home County State-owned Assets Management Company.

Having learned from their meeting the previous day that Jiang Miao was a direct person, Gao Meng didn’t beat around the bush and got straight to the point. "General Manager Jiang, my company has fully authorized me to sign the partnership agreement with your company."

Jiang Miao nodded. "Alright. As for the shareholding ratio, we’ll stick to what we discussed: Monan State-owned Assets Operation Company holds 60%, Hailufeng Company holds 35%, and Home County State-owned Assets Management Company holds 5%."

"We have no objections either, General Manager Jiang," said the head of the Home County State-owned Assets Management Company. He had already spoken with Gao Meng that morning; although they felt the investment was risky, they figured the potential problems weren’t major. At worst, they would only lose a few million.

The legal secretary who had come with Jiang Miao began to outline the terms for all three parties. "Regarding the rights and obligations of each party, we need to reiterate the following: Monan State-owned Assets Operation Company and Home County State-owned Assets Management Company will have rights to financial oversight, dividends, and personnel recommendations. Hailufeng Company will have rights to dividends, management, and final personnel decisions..."

"The capital contributions from the three parties are as follows: Monan State-owned Assets Operation Company, 60%, for 300 million yuan; Hailufeng Company, 35%, for 175 million yuan; and Home County State-owned Assets Management Company, 5%, for 25 million yuan..."

"Details on the dividend clauses..."

"Details on the financial oversight clauses..."

"Details on the personnel appointment clauses..."
