"WHOOSH..."
"RUSTLE RUSTLE RUSTLE..."
A damp wind blew across the lake, surging onto the shore and causing the trees along the bank to sway violently, creating a cacophonous rustling.
In Bibo Lake, ripples spread across the calm surface. The water churned and splashed, and then, one after another, vividly green creatures emerged.
The vividly green creatures that emerged from the water glanced around before quickly crawling ashore and disappearing into the grass and trees along the bank.
The Treasure Hunting Squad, the same one that had earlier criticized Lin Li for picking Red Apples, was methodically following their pre-planned route, searching for the dens of White-Scaled Drilling Rats in the grass and woods.
A man, no older than his early thirties but already bald, reached out. He parted the dense, head-high grass, preparing to investigate what lay within, when a sickening face suddenly appeared before him.
"Shit..."
"Fish-headed Monsters here!"
The bald man reacted with incredible speed. He immediately leaped backward, shouting to his companions as he retreated.
"He’s spotted Fish-headed Monsters over there! Let’s move!" the leader of the Treasure Hunting Squad shouted to his companions upon hearing the bald man’s cry.
The Fish-headed Monster was a very common type of Mutant Beast that inhabited Bibo Lake.
They were about two meters long, vividly green, and topped with enormous fish heads. On sunny days, they enjoyed crawling out of the water and onto the shore to sunbathe.
In truth, an individual Fish-headed Monster wasn’t very strong. A Cultivator at the high stage of Tier One could easily defeat one in a one-on-one fight.
However, Fish-headed Monsters were social creatures. If you spotted one, there were bound to be a considerable number of others nearby.
Even though Fish-headed Monsters weren’t strong individually, they posed a significant threat to humans in large numbers.
That was why, when the members of this Treasure Hunting Team heard their teammate shout that he’d found Fish-headed Monsters, they all immediately rushed over to provide support.
After all, if they delayed, their isolated teammate could be surrounded by the monsters and killed.
"Damn it... How are there so many?"
"This is the first time I’ve ever seen so many Fish-headed Monsters together."
"This number of Fish-headed Monsters seems excessive!"
When the Treasure Hunting Squad’s leader arrived with his teammates, they found the bald man surrounded by a horde of vividly green Fish-headed Monsters. A quick glance revealed there were no fewer than thirty-five of them.
Normally, when Cultivators encountered a group of Fish-headed Monsters near Bibo Lake, there would only be a dozen or so.
The number of monsters before them was more than double the usual amount. It was no wonder the expressions of the Treasure Hunting Squad’s members turned grim.
"Hurry and save me! I can’t hold on much longer!" the bald man shouted to his companions, kicking away a monster that lunged at him.
"Let’s move!" the Treasure Hunting Squad’s leader called to his teammates. He infused the Spiritual Weapon in his hands with Spiritual Energy and charged forward to rescue his beleaguered companion.
The other members of the Treasure Hunting Squad saw this and immediately followed him. The fight erupted instantly.
With his teammates’ help, the pressure on the bald man eased considerably.
Just as the Treasure Hunting Team’s members reached the surrounded bald man and prepared to fight their way out of the encirclement, the unexpected happened.
"RUSTLE RUSTLE RUSTLE..."
The surrounding grass began to shake, and then another huge wave of Fish-headed Monsters surged out, completely cutting off any chance of escape.
Seeing this, the faces of the Treasure Hunting Team members turned deathly pale. A single thought surfaced in all their minds.
’Damn it, it’s a trap.’
