I Start with a Mysterious Island
Chapter 539 - 353: Superpower, ’Mental ShockChapter 539: Chapter 353: Superpower, ’Mental Shock
A faint golden Spiritual Light flashed in the giant Fish-headed Monster’s eyes, and the captain of the Treasure Hunting Squad perceived an incredibly powerful Spiritual Energy Wave erupting from it.
"S-Second Order Middle Stage!!!"
"This giant Fish-headed Monster has reached the Second Order Middle Stage!!!"
The Treasure Hunting Squad’s captain, usually calm and composed, cried out in panic after realizing the giant Fish-headed Monster’s level.
It was no wonder he was shouting in such a panic. If the giant Fish-headed Monster were only at the Second Rank Initial Stage, he wouldn’t have completely lost his composure.
The group was already struggling to hold on while surrounded by the ordinary Fish-headed Monsters. Now, with the arrival of a giant one at the Second Order Middle Stage, their chances of survival were zero.
"What did you say, Captain? This giant Fish-headed Monster is at the Second Order Middle Stage? Are you sure you’re not mistaken?!!!" the squad member with the injured shoulder asked, his face a mask of disbelief.
"I’m not mistaken. The intensity of the Spiritual Energy Wave coming from this giant Fish-headed Monster is undeniably at the Second Order Middle Stage," the Treasure Hunting Squad’s captain said with a bitter look on his face.
"Damn it."
"It’s all over now."
Hearing this confirmation, the Treasure Hunting Squad members’ morale shattered in an instant. They muttered to themselves, their faces etched with despair.
"GURGLE, GURGLE, GURGLE..."
Seeing their leader approach, the ordinary Fish-headed Monsters immediately cleared a path.
The despondent members of the Treasure Hunting Squad watched the giant Fish-headed Monster approach, its body radiating a terrifying aura. The fear in their hearts swelled, and the member with the abdominal wound, in particular, screamed in terror.
"H-Help! Help me!"
"Somebody, please help us!!!"
The other members of the Treasure Hunting Squad watched their companion with the stomach wound lose his composure and scream. They opened their mouths, subconsciously wanting to join him.
But then they remembered how deserted the area was. Even if they screamed their lungs out, no one would hear their cries for help. They quickly shut their mouths again.
"Stop shouting, it’s useless. There’s no one around here."
"Even if someone did hear us, they’d see the giant Fish-headed Monster and all these regular ones. No one would be willing to risk their life to save us..."
the bald man said to his screaming companion, his face a mask of despair.
"Help! Is anyone there to save us?!!!"
"Please, if you can hear me, please come and save us!!!"
The squad member with the stomach wound ignored his companion. His overwhelming will to live drove him to let out a blood-curdling cry for help, a sound so loud it carried for miles.
But reality was just as his companion, the bald man, had said. Their Treasure Hunting Squad had followed their planned route, searching as they went, which had led them far from any other Treasure Hunting Teams.
In this desolate place, you could scream your throat raw and it would be a miracle if anyone heard you.
"GURGLE..."
The slimy green giant Fish-headed Monster let out a roar laced with amusement, its gaze unnervingly human as it looked down with contempt upon the surrounded humans.
The situation was like a cat that had cornered a mouse, blocking every path of escape. The only fate awaiting the mouse was death.
"GURGLE, GURGLE, GURGLE..."
Seeing the members of the Treasure Hunting Team sink into despair, the ordinary Fish-headed Monsters grew even more agitated.
They looked to their leader, screeching as if begging for the command to attack.
The giant Fish-headed Monster, radiating the Spiritual Energy Wave of a Second Order Middle Stage creature, grew tired of admiring the despair on the humans’ faces.
It glanced at its restless underlings, nodded, and issued the command to attack.
"GURGLE..."
Upon receiving the command, the ordinary Fish-headed Monsters let out a chorus of deafening snarls and scrambled over one another to swarm the surrounded Treasure Hunting Squad.
"Damn it all! Let’s take these bastards with us!"
Except for the squad member with the abdominal wound, who was still screaming for help amid a mental breakdown, the others steeled themselves as the Fish-headed Monsters charged. Even though they knew death was certain, they refused to be slaughtered by the Mutant Beasts without a fight and prepared to make a final, desperate stand.
"Kill...!"
The Treasure Hunting Squad’s captain, the strongest among them, let out a great roar and led the charge.
He strode forward a few meters and swung the weapon in his hand. Infused with Spiritual Energy, its sharp blade, glowing with a faint golden Spiritual Light, struck like lightning, instantly cleaving an ordinary Fish-headed Monster in two.
Filled with despair, the members of the Treasure Hunting Team fought their last stand, injuring or killing the pouncing Fish-headed Monsters one after another.
But they were outnumbered and outmatched. Facing the siege of countless Fish-headed Monsters, their stamina and Spiritual Energy were rapidly draining away.
And the one they feared most—the giant Fish-headed Monster at the Second Order Middle Stage—had yet to make a move.
At this rate, they feared that the moment the giant Fish-headed Monster at the Second Order Middle Stage joined the fray, their teetering squad would be annihilated in an instant.
The giant Fish-headed Monster, watching the Treasure Hunting Squad fight like cornered animals, found these humans to be surprisingly tenacious.
’Even in this situation, they refuse to give up. They’ve killed quite a few of my underlings.’
After a moment’s thought, the giant Fish-headed Monster decided to stop watching from the sidelines. It would personally enter the fray and crush these stubbornly resistant humans.
"GURGLE..."
The giant Fish-headed Monster opened its mouth and let out a deafening roar.
The members of the Treasure Hunting Squad, who were desperately fending off the ordinary Fish-headed Monsters, were stunned by the sound. Their minds went blank, and their hands froze.
The Treasure Hunting Squad’s captain was the first to recover. He stared at the giant Fish-headed Monster, its mouth agape as it let out the deafening roar. His already pale face turned ghastly as he cried out in horror.
"It’s a Superpower! This giant Fish-headed Monster at the Second Order Middle Stage has awakened a Superpower—and it’s a Mental Shock type!!!"
A giant Fish-headed Monster at the Second Order Middle Stage was already more than the Treasure Hunting Squad could handle.
Discovering that it was a Mutant Beast that had also awakened a Superpower plunged them even deeper into despair.
By the time the weaker squad members—all only at the Tier One Peak—regained their senses, the ordinary Fish-headed Monsters were already upon them.
"AHHH..."
The members of the Treasure Hunting Team who couldn’t dodge in time were tackled to the ground. The monsters sank their teeth into arms and shoulders, drawing agonized screams from their victims.
Seeing his comrades pinned to the ground and in mortal danger, the Treasure Hunting Squad’s captain tried to push forward to help them, but he was bogged down by a swarm of ordinary Fish-headed Monsters.
The captain, filled with despair and grief, let out a furious roar, "You bastards! Get out of my way!"
He swung his Spiritual Longsword, which glowed with a faint golden Spiritual Light, about to run through the Fish-headed Monster blocking his path, when an intense sense of crisis washed over him from behind.
Alarm bells screamed in the captain’s mind. He spun around, raising his Spiritual Longsword to block in front of his chest.
A massive shadow fell over the captain. Viciously sharp claws tore through the air with a piercing shriek, slamming against the blade of his Spiritual Longsword.
The force was far more than the captain could withstand. The giant Fish-headed Monster’s claws slammed the Spiritual Longsword into his chest.
CRACK.
It was as if a sledgehammer had struck his chest. The captain’s sternum shattered, the sound of bone breaking sickeningly clear.
He was swatted into the air by the giant Fish-headed Monster’s claw, his feet leaving the ground as he was sent flying backward.
SLAM.
He crashed heavily onto the ground, tumbling over and over while vomiting mouthfuls of blood.
"ARGH..."
When he finally skidded to a stop, excruciating pain exploded from his injury and shot through his entire body. A gut-wrenching scream of agony tore from the captain’s throat.
