I Start with a Mysterious Island
Chapter 543 - 355: No Comparison, No HarmChapter 543: Chapter 355: No Comparison, No Harm
Beneath the scorching sun, three sturdy men in linen clothes, weapons slung across their backs, pushed their way through a tangle of overgrown grass.
"We got to that spot first, but he still brazenly drove us away. He’s gone too far," the shorter man said angrily.
"Sigh... We’re just not strong enough. There’s nothing we can do about it," the taller man said with a sigh.
"That power-abusing son of a bitch. It was disgusting watching him shamelessly suck up to the Zhous..." the shorter man cursed, recalling what had just happened, especially how that guy had publicly humiliated him.
"Everyone knows that guy Li Mai is a despicable scoundrel. You don’t need to waste your anger on someone so disgusting..." Although the taller man felt just as frustrated, he patiently tried to console his companion.
"I just can’t stomach it! Every time I picture that smug look on Li Mai’s face, I feel sick," the shorter man said, fuming.
The middle-aged man leading the way was the strongest of the three, with a cultivation at the Tier Two Initial Stage. He had been quiet for most of their journey.
Hearing his companions complain endlessly about what had just happened, he frowned and finally spoke.
"That guy Li Mai has gotten in with the Zhous now. With our current strength, there’s absolutely nothing we can do to him.
If you really can’t stand being humiliated by him, then channel that indignation into motivation. From now on, focus on your cultivation and try to break through to Tier Three as soon as you can."
"Big Brother, breaking through to Tier Three isn’t that easy! With my aptitude, I’ll be thanking my lucky stars if I can even reach the Tier Two Middle Stage in this lifetime," the shorter man said.
He was already thirty-three years old but had only reached Tier One Peak. An aptitude like that would be decent enough on Blue Star, but here in the Spirit Realm, where the concentration of Spiritual Energy was many times higher, it was considered rather poor.
"The Zhao Family is a powerful and noble house, after all. Now that Li Mai has their backing, he’s become someone that commoners like us can’t afford to provoke.
Like I said before, unless we reach Tier Three, don’t go provoking him again. You’ll only bring disaster upon yourself," the steady-minded middle-aged man told his companions.
"Big Brother is right! You have to remember this. We can curse that Li Mai behind his back, but that’s it. Don’t you dare provoke him to his face," the taller man said.
"I..." Seething with anger, the shorter man opened his mouth. He wanted to say, ’I’m not afraid of him! If he ever dares to humiliate me again, I’ll curse him right to his face...’
But then he thought about how doing so would provoke retaliation from that despicable scoundrel, which would in turn drag his companions down with him.
He wouldn’t mind so much if Li Mai’s revenge was aimed only at him, but he couldn’t bear the thought of his companions suffering because of his actions.
And so, the shorter man swallowed the defiant words he was about to shout.
"That’s just the way the world is. For common folk like us facing the noble houses, unless you become an accomplished cultivator with enough power not to fear their retaliation...
...otherwise, we have no choice but to keep our heads down, even in front of their bootlicking lackeys. You must take this lesson to heart.
Even when you can’t stand it, when you’re on the verge of cursing them out for the humiliation, think of your parents back home. That should be enough to make you cool down," the steady-minded middle-aged man said gravely.
After hearing their Big Brother’s words, both the shorter man and the taller man fell silent.
The middle-aged man’s words were harsh, but they were the undeniable, unwritten rule of survival for ordinary people in this world.
After several minutes of silence, the three men walking through the lush grass suddenly caught a tempting aroma drifting from a distance. Having not yet eaten lunch, the smell made their stomachs growl even louder.
"That’s strange. Where’s that smell coming from?" said the taller man.
The shorter man twitched his nose, taking a deep sniff of the tempting aroma in the air. "Smells like roasted meat," he guessed.
The steady-minded middle-aged man smiled and said, "It must be another Treasure Hunting Squad. They’ve probably set up camp up ahead and are having lunch!"
"Big Brother, we’ve been out here searching for treasure all morning. It’s getting late, and I’m starving. Let’s find a place to eat lunch!" the taller man proposed.
"Let’s keep heading forward. We’ll find a place to settle down near the people who are roasting the meat," said the steady-minded middle-aged man.
He made this decision because eating in the wilderness, where Mutant Beasts roamed, could easily attract hungry ones to their location.
Therefore, by settling down near other travelers who were also eating, they could face any potential threats together if an accident were to occur during their meal.
"Mm," the taller and shorter man both nodded in agreement. They quickened their pace, following their Big Brother toward the source of the roasting meat’s aroma.
RUSTLE RUSTLE RUSTLE...
Seated on a small stool, Lin Li had just pulled a large chunk of roasted meat from a stainless steel skewer. He was just about to grade his own grilling when he suddenly heard a rustling sound coming from the dense grass in the distance.
