Chapter 565: Chapter 365: Bizarre Superpower, Everyone Mutates

As far as the eye could see, the tide of battle had turned in an instant. With the arrival of the Mutated Giant Centipede, humanity’s advantage was completely reversed.

"Ahhh..."

The piercing screams grew more frequent. It wasn’t just the bandits being killed by the Mutated Giant Centipedes; the guards had also begun to suffer casualties.

"Fall back! Fall back now!" Seeing the casualties mount, the Guard Captain and the Bandit Leader shouted in unison.

At the command, everyone immediately tightened their defensive line, fighting as they retreated.

But during this process, despair and fear spread rapidly through the hearts of every human on the field.

Everyone knew what a retreat signified. Faced with innumerable Mutated Giant Centipedes, they wouldn’t last much longer.

"Waaaaah..."

The common folk huddled around the Merchant Team Leader’s carriage watched the guards and bandits being cut down and beaten back. Realizing their own deaths were imminent, the fear they had long suppressed finally erupted, and they began to wail loudly.

The Merchant Team Leader had previously scolded the groomsmen, telling them not to cry and affect the morale of the men fighting at the front. Now, however, he no longer reprimanded them.

"Master, we... we’re finished this time..." said a servant who had followed the Merchant Team Leader for many years, his voice trembling.

"Yes. To think this trip would be the last trade run of my life." Facing the collapsing battle lines, the pale-faced Merchant Team Leader was surprisingly calm, no longer as frightened as before. His tone was serene as he spoke.

"Boss, save me!" a bald bandit shouted to the Bandit Leader as a Mutated Giant Centipede pounced on him and pinned him to the ground.

"Get the hell off him!" Hearing his subordinate’s cry for help, the Bandit Leader rushed over and swiftly cleaved through the few Mutated Giant Centipedes that were about to tear the bald bandit to pieces.

The rescued bandit scrambled up from the ground, but when he saw the swarms of Mutated Giant Centipedes that had breached the circular defenses, he felt no joy at being saved. Instead, he said in despair, "Boss, we’re dead men."

"Damn it. Of all the days to go out raiding, I had to pick this one..." the Bandit Leader said, his face an emotionless mask.

’He was filled with regret. If he hadn’t led his men out to plunder today, they wouldn’t be trapped in this hopeless predicament.’

"All of you, fall back, now!" The Guard Captain hoisted a comrade onto his shoulder—the man had been bitten by a Mutated Giant Centipede and lost all his strength. He kicked away another pouncing centipede, then turned and yelled at his companions who were still caught up in the fight.

"There’s nowhere left to run! We’re going to die anyway, so I say we take as many of them with us as we can!" one of the guards who had been eager to fight shouted in desperation.

He then swung his axe with all his might, bringing it down on the armored back of a Mutated Giant Centipede.

After a flurry of continuous blows, the blade of his axe had become blunted and curled, its power greatly diminished. The centipede he struck merely shrieked in pain before continuing its attack, largely unharmed.

’Sigh... I always knew that in this line of work, I’d face a situation like this one day. I just didn’t think that day would come so soon...’

Carrying his companion, who had been poisoned by a centipede’s bite, the Guard Captain silently watched the desperate scene unfold before him.

"Waaaaah..."

"I don’t want to die! I’m still so young!"

"My wife is waiting for me at home!"

"My child was just born last month! If I die, what will happen to my wife and baby?"

"Shopkeeper Wu, please, think of something! You must have a way to get us out of here!"

The groomsmen huddled around the Merchant Team Leader cried out to the heavens, but in a situation like this, he was utterly helpless. He himself was already resigned to death.

Just as every human on the field was certain of their impending doom, a majestic voice suddenly boomed over the chaotic battlefield, echoing in everyone’s ears.

"You have some nerve, daring to come so close to our Dongwu City..."
