Chapter 569 - 367: Tonight’s Show Has Just BegunChapter 569: Chapter 367: Tonight’s Show Has Just Begun
Night fell. In the first-floor dining room of the brightly lit villa, Qin Muqing methodically cleared the dishes from the table.
"I’m heading out in a bit. I won’t be sleeping here tonight, so lock up early and get some rest." Having eaten his fill, Lin Li stood up and spoke to Qin Muqing, who was clearing the dishes.
"Okay." Qin Muqing gave a slight nod and carried the cleared dishes toward the kitchen. Just then, Lin Li spoke up again. "Wait a second..."
"Mr. Lin, is something wrong?" Qin Muqing stopped, turned to look at Lin Li, and asked.
"The dinner you made tonight was pretty good..." Lin Li complimented, while adding internally, ’But compared to Su Yue’s cooking, there’s still a lot of room for improvement.’
Hearing Lin Li’s praise, Qin Muqing’s eyes lit up. She smiled brightly and said, "Thank you for the compliment, Mr. Lin. I’ll work even harder."
"Huh? Work harder on what?" Lin Li was taken aback for a moment, not understanding what she meant. He didn’t press the issue, though. He just turned, left the dining room, and headed straight out the door.
Once Qin Muqing was the only one left in the house, she washed the dishes in the kitchen, muttering to herself, "Mr. Lin seemed quite satisfied with the dinner I made tonight. My diligent studies with Ms. Zhang these past few days weren’t in vain."
"I never would have guessed! Mr. Lin doesn’t look particularly built, not like someone who can eat a lot, but his appetite is actually astonishing..."
As Qin Muqing recalled how Lin Li had devoured bowl after bowl of rice during dinner, an expression of surprise couldn’t help but cross her plain face.
After washing the dishes, Qin Muqing locked all the doors and went back to her bedroom on the second floor.
A moment later, her plain, unremarkable features vanished. With skin now as smooth as jade and a face of breathtaking beauty, Qin Muqing emerged from the bedroom holding a light nightgown.
Her red lips parted as she hummed a familiar tune, her figure swaying as she walked toward the bathroom.
A short while later, the sound of running water came from the bathroom, and a pleasant singing voice could be faintly heard over it.
...
The Red Blood Gang’s dock was brightly lit. Urged on by overseers, laborers toiled away, hauling crate after crate of cargo from the docked freighter to a nearby warehouse.
"I’m starving! It’s already dark; can’t they let us eat before making us work?" a young man in his twenties exclaimed to his friend beside him, setting down a crate in the warehouse and patting his growling stomach.
"Just hurry up and work! We can eat when we’re done..." the young man’s friend replied.
"What are you two lollygagging for? Get back to hauling cargo, now!" A whip-wielding member of the Red Blood Gang shouted, having spotted the two laborers dawdling in the warehouse after dropping off a crate.
"Yes, yes, sir! We’re going!" Seeing the Red Blood Gang member brandish his whip, the two chastised laborers trembled in fear. They nodded hastily and scrambled out of the warehouse, running toward the distant freighter.
"The moment you look away, they look for a chance to slack off. Bunch of lazy bums," the Red Blood Gang member grumbled, watching the two laborers run off.
From a dark corner not far away, a pair of eyes took in the entire scene.
’This new Red Blood Gang Leader seems even less human. The last Gang Leader at least let people eat dinner before working. This one, he makes everyone finish all the work before they can eat. He doesn’t treat them like human beings at all!’
Lin Li withdrew his gaze, then turned and ran toward a distant wall. Reaching it, he leaped and vaulted over with ease.
CRACK.
As luck would have it, he landed on a dry twig, which made a sharp sound.
In the quiet surroundings, the sound was exceptionally clear.
To make matters worse, two Red Blood Gang members happened to be patrolling nearby. Hearing the noise, they immediately rushed over.
"Who the fuck are you?"
When the two Red Blood Gang members arrived, they saw a man in simple linen clothes standing by the wall.
The corner was unlit, so they couldn’t see the man’s face clearly. Just then, they heard the man—clearly not one of their own—mutter to himself.
"Tsk. My luck’s a bit off today. I just snuck in and I’ve already been spotted."
’Snuck in? Spotted?’
Startled by his words, the two Red Blood Gang members immediately reached for the weapons at their waists.
The next moment, a figure flashed between them.
There were two soft, wet thuds, and the two Red Blood Gang members, who were reaching for their weapons, froze.
Then, their bodies fell stiffly to the ground, staring wide-eyed at the dark night sky, all signs of life gone.
After casually dispatching the two grunts, Lin Li shook out his hands, dispersing the biting chill from them, and quickly headed toward a specific location within the Red Blood Gang’s main base.
Shifting focus to the two dead grunts, one could see two sharp icicles piercing through their necks, just below their heads.
Blood gushed out, quickly forming a pool beneath them.
...
In a pitch-black courtyard, the only source of light was the dim, yellow glow spilling from a single room.
