I Swear I'm Not a Demon Masquerading as a Human
Chapter 74: Mr. Lances Important SpeechChapter 74: Mr. Lance's Important Speech
The giant screen in Gela Memorial Plaza pulsed with flickering light, sometimes brilliant, sometimes dim. It resembled a solitary lighthouse silently guiding people's way through the darkness.
On the stone steps facing the open-air screen was Talia. She was dressed in a comfortable white dress and looked like a breath of fresh air amid the deep night as she quietly made her way to the edge of the plaza.
From this vantage point, she had an unobstructed view of the entire giant screen. After smoothing the back of her dress, she sat down on the textured stone steps and gazed at the display. Then, she slowly frowned.
On the screen was a stately, somber conference room. It had a soaring domed ceiling painted with murals of the Demon Kingdom, and the jet-black stone walls were adorned with statues that glowed with the faint purple light of mana barriers. Every detail whispered that only demons with a very high status were permitted to enter this chamber.
Lance sat in the central seat at the head of the table with a teacup before him. As he spoke, he occasionally tapped his fingers lightly against the tabletop. The other seats were occupied by demons of considerable standing from Purgatory Corridor Academy.
Each was impeccably dressed, and their attire appeared all the more magnificent and dignified under the glow of the chandelier. They watched Lance with rapt attention, answering his incisive questions respectfully and without a hint of dissent.
Lance was no longer wearing his school uniform jacket. Instead, he was clad in a vintage-style suit, and the nameplate standing on the table before him bore a clear inscription in Demon Kingdom script: Acting Headmaster.
Talia frowned deeply, then rubbed her eyes and looked at the image again. There was no mistake in what she was seeing. But hadn't she only stepped away for a few hours? How on earth did that bastard go from being a student to the headmaster?!

The atmosphere was tense inside the conference room on the top floor of Purgatory Corridor Academy, yet filled with mutual respect and anticipation. The school's leadership team sat in orderly fashion, listening quietly to Lance's thoughts.
Lance was at the head of the table. He took a sip of tea, set the cup down, and glanced around the room before beginning his address. He began by commending the academy's achievements in teaching quality and campus culture, while also reminding the leadership of the vital importance of, and the responsibility inherent in, their educational mission.
He then proposed several ideas for educational reform within the academy, including promoting educational equity, enhancing teaching quality, and prioritizing the development of the teaching staff. He emphasized that education was the foundation of the Demon Kingdom and the cradle of its future pillars. Every educator present bore the heavy responsibility of nurturing the Demon Kingdom's rising stars.
"I hope we can work together to create an education system that is equitable, high-quality, and modern. We must value and elevate the professional standards of our teachers, while also focusing on the holistic development of every student and unlocking their full potential..."
Just as Lance was outlining the school's future development strategy, the conference room door opened. The deputy headmaster walked in, closed the door behind him, and returned to his seat beside Lance.
He said respectfully, "Special Envoy, the academy's new regulations have been promulgated and implemented exactly as you requested. Additionally, the vampire envoy and the officer from the Demon Kingdom Inspectorate have arrived in Purgatory City. They are expected to reach the academy within the hour."
Lance nodded. "Good."
He had already met the deputy headmaster earlier, when Instructor Mogut had first brought him to the conference room. It was fair to say that Mogut's unwavering faith in him had saved a great deal of trouble.
When Instructor Mogut had gone alone to the deputy headmaster's office to request the meeting, he had recounted Lance's impressive display in the art classroom. Consequently, when the deputy headmaster invited Lance into his office, the mere sight of the black jade seal had been enough to command his utmost respect.
The academy immediately convened a series of urgent high-level meetings, and the deputy headmaster personally carried out the requirements Lance had deemed "essential for dealing with the vampire envoy."
Lance glanced at the deputy headmaster, then turned to the other senior faculty members and stated, "Now that the deputy headmaster has returned, let us first discuss the most pressing issue at hand: the matter of the vampires. Honestly, I don't think the problem this time lies with the vampires. You all need to reflect on your own shortcomings. His Majesty the Demon King might be able to shield you once, but what if there's a next time? Can he protect you every single time?"
For a long period of time, no one in the conference room dared to speak. They all knew that this distinguished confidant of the Demon King had come to clean up their mess. Being lectured was to be expected. In fact, his tone had actually been quite polite.
Hyperion stood behind Lance, looking like his secretary. A whirlwind of mixed emotions was pummeling her as she wondered how things had suddenly turned out this way. She struggled to keep her expression neutral.
Before her, Lance sat alone, leaning back in his chair with his hands resting on the table while he addressed all the school's senior faculty. She couldn't fathom where Lance found the nerve to sit there, calm, composed, and entirely alone, while lecturing a group of high-ranking demons.
He seemed to have truly convinced himself he was the real special envoy. Once again, he had seamlessly integrated himself into the school environment.
"That said, I can't entirely blame you for what happened. The Empire's modification technology did indeed exceed our expectations. Besides, the vampires are being far too arrogant. They clearly don't take us seriously."
Lance then sighed, his tone softening slightly. "During this inspection of this school, I got a taste of student life, an experience I'll certainly never forget. I will truthfully report my positive impressions to His Majesty. After all, conducting this kind of assessment is part of my job."
Once Lance finished speaking, the faculty present all seemed to breathe a collective sigh of relief. Thank goodness they had strictly adhered to the rules during this period and hadn't done anything unfair that might have angered the special envoy.
Moreover, although the envoy was stern, he had made no secret of his high regard for the school. His message was clear: he would definitely stand by the institution.
Lance's voice rang out, resonant and full of confidence, "In short, to prevent similar incidents or hidden dangers in the future I'll need your full cooperation once I've safely dealt with this vampire envoy. You all must actively implement reforms, optimize the selection process, and ensure that no outsiders with malicious intent can infiltrate our school. Is that understood?"
The sheer sense of responsibility and mission radiating from him made it impossible for the others to doubt his devotion to the school. Such passion simply couldn't be feigned. More importantly, he possessed the capability to command their confidence. In his eyes, a mere envoy of the vampires was hardly a problem worth worrying about!
The deputy headmaster took the lead in offering his sincere assurance to Lance. "Rest assured, you have my word."
Having heard Lance's strategy for dealing with the vampire envoy back in the office, the deputy headmaster was now utterly convinced that this envoy was a figure of terrifying talent and a demon of immense wisdom. He was clearly the only one capable of saving them.
