Chapter 250: Chapter 233: Hatred
ROAR!!
A powerful beast’s roar pierced the clouds. Just as Li Tao’s two beasts sprang into action, Yu Changsheng’s own two beasts—the Red Refining Snake and the Colorful Star Deer—shot out to meet their respective opponents.
The Red Refining Snake took the initiative to engage the Two-headed Red Flame Lion, while the Colorful Star Deer faced the Seven-Colored Cloud Deer Beast. The two pairs squared off, their Tier Two auras radiating a palpable sense of pressure.
In truth, quite a few people were watching this battle in secret. Both Yang Chengxu and Zhang Tianwen were observing intently, silently sizing up the combatants and making their own calculations.
’Since Yu Changsheng was able to annihilate the entire Tang Family by himself, Li Tao is undoubtedly no match for him. Defeat is a given. I just wonder if this will be an opportunity to gauge the extent of Yu Changsheng’s power.’
With this thought in mind, Yang Chengxu maintained a placid expression. As he continued his silent assessment, he lowered his head and shot a glance at a disciple beside him.
This disciple had a plain appearance. Standing beside Yang Chengxu, he was a mere foil, so unremarkable that he practically faded into the background. If not for the Spirit Dragon Sect disciple’s robes he wore, many would have subconsciously mistaken him for Yang Chengxu’s servant.
At this moment, however, the disciple’s face was dark. He stared at Yu Changsheng on the stage, the vicious hatred deep in his eyes so intense it could have bored holes through its target.
"Tang Chen, get a hold of yourself. This is an inter-sect competition. Whatever grudges you have, save them for tomorrow."
Yang Chengxu shot him a sideways glance and spoke lightly, his voice low enough for only the two of them to hear.
"Yes, Tang Chen understands." Tang Chen lowered his head. When he looked up again, the hatred in his eyes was gone, and his expression was once again calm. Only his tightly clenched fists betrayed the turmoil within.
Seeing this, Yang Chengxu secretly shook his head. A dark glint flashed in the depths of his eyes before vanishing. He patted Tang Chen’s shoulder, his tone softening slightly.
"I know you harbor an immense hatred for Yu Changsheng. He wiped out your entire family. If you don’t get revenge, I imagine your cultivation path will be forever stunted. I understand how you feel."
"That’s why I’ve already made arrangements for the second round of the competition tomorrow. I’ll have my master secretly pair you against Yu Changsheng. I’m giving you the opportunity; it’s up to you to seize it."
As he finished speaking, a flash of gratitude appeared in Tang Chen’s eyes. He lowered his head deferentially and gave Yang Chengxu a subtle, cupped-fist salute.
Looking closely at Tang Chen, one could see that his features bore a strong resemblance to Tang He, the man Yu Changsheng had killed!
And it was true. As the son Tang He had sent away in his youth to join the Spirit Dragon Sect, Tang Chen’s existence was known to few outsiders. Even Yu Changsheng hadn’t noticed this, or perhaps, even if he had, he wouldn’t have cared.
As for Tang Chen, the sudden news of the Tang Family’s annihilation had been an unimaginable blow. The depth of his resulting hatred for Yu Changsheng was easy to imagine.
"Thank you, Senior Brother Yang. I am eternally grateful. If I succeed, I swear I will follow you for the rest of my life and protect you at all costs."
Tang Chen spoke in a low, sincere voice. Though his tone was subdued, there was no hint of jest in his moving words.
Yang Chengxu shook his head, his expression nonchalant, but he allowed a perfectly measured look of indignation and pity to enter his eyes. "It’s only right," he said with a hint of displeasure. "This Yu Changsheng is far too vicious. Over such a trivial matter, he actually..."
"Sigh..." Yang Chengxu let out a heavy sigh.
While Tang Chen’s expression remained neutral, the sinister hatred in his eyes intensified. His nails dug into his palms, embedding themselves in the flesh. Trickles of blood slid from his hands, dripping unconsciously onto his robes before disappearing into the fabric.
"Senior Brother Yang has done more than enough. Please, let me handle the rest myself."
Tang Chen murmured, slowly closing his eyes.
"Mm," Yang Chengxu nodded, musing for a moment. "Alright. Remember to take the Elixir I gave you before the match starts tomorrow. It has some side effects, but under normal circumstances, given Yu Changsheng’s strength, you’re likely not his match..."
"If you take the Blood Burst Pill, it will damage your foundation over time, but I’ll be here. I will find a way to restore it for you in time. I imagine that’s not something you’re worried about, though."
"Yes. Thank you for the Elixir, Senior Brother Yang. As long as I can avenge my family, what does it matter if my Cultivation is destroyed in the process?"
Tang Chen didn’t care, nor did he want to consider what ulterior motives Yang Chengxu might have. For him, as long as it helped his quest for revenge, it was enough.
"Good. Then for now, use this opportunity to carefully observe Yu Changsheng’s strength. As for tomorrow, you are to go all out. Don’t worry about the Peak Masters from either sect intervening. I will speak with my master beforehand. We already have right on our side, so for that match, not even Mo Pengchen will have any reason to interfere."
Yang Chengxu said calmly, and Tang Chen’s gaze returned to the stage.
On the stage, Yu Changsheng was completely unaware of this exchange. He, however, was perfectly relaxed, feeling no pressure at all.
’After fighting so many opponents in higher Realms, it’s hard to get excited about facing someone in my own.’
The thought flashed through his mind. Yu Changsheng stood in his corner, directing the Red Refining Snake and Colorful Star Deer while glancing over at Li Tao. In stark contrast to Yu Changsheng’s calm indifference, Li Tao’s face was a grim mask of anxiety, his forehead beaded with cold sweat.
"Red Refining Snake, Colorful Star Deer, that’s enough of a warm-up. End this."
Yu Changsheng said calmly. As his words fell, the Red Refining Snake flickered its tongue, and the Colorful Star Deer nodded. They stopped toying with the Two-headed Red Flame Lion and the Seven-Colored Cloud Deer Beast and finally launched their attacks.
