I Tame Beasts by Feeding

Chapter 257 - 236: Wen Longyu’s Origin (2)

Chapter 257: Chapter 236: Wen Longyu’s Origin (2)

Yu Changsheng pondered for a moment, then took a Spirit Ticket worth one hundred thousand Spirit Stones from his robes and handed it to Li Minghan.

"Here, I only have one hundred thousand Spirit Stones on me. For the rest, see if you can write me an IOU. I’ll pay you back later."

"What are you doing?" Li Minghan waved his hand dismissively, pouting in disapproval. "This thing was worth fifty thousand Spirit Stones at most. The price was just driven up."

"Even one hundred thousand Spirit Stones is too much. As for owing me money, that’s just nonsense."

"It’s not the same. Since the winning bid was three hundred thousand, then that’s the price," Yu Changsheng said, shaking his head, completely against the idea.

"Fine, then just give me the one hundred thousand Spirit Stones." Li Minghan nodded after a moment of thought, scratching his head with a sheepish grin.

"Even though I’m the Young Tower Master, the Ten Thousand Beasts Tower isn’t my family’s personal property. We still need to go through the proper procedures."

"But a final price of three hundred thousand Spirit Stones is outrageous. It was malicious bidding. It’s within my authority to lower the price, especially to one that better reflects the item’s actual value. So, we’ll set the final price for you at one hundred thousand Spirit Stones."

After speaking, Li Minghan looked at Yu Changsheng with a sincere gaze.

Yu Changsheng’s expression shifted slightly. After a moment of silence, he slowly nodded, his voice tinged with gratitude.

"Alright. Then thank you, Brother Li. I’ll remember this."

"This Wen Longyu... is there something special about it? You seem to like it a great deal, Changsheng."

Li Minghan waved his hand as he took Yu Changsheng’s Spirit Ticket, asking curiously.

Yu Changsheng mused for a moment, then handed the Wen Longyu he’d been fiddling with to Li Minghan and shook his head. "It’s nothing. I just find it pleasing to look at. That’s all."

"Oh." Li Minghan nodded. He took the Wen Longyu and examined it for a while but found nothing out of the ordinary, which left him a little baffled.

But he didn’t press the matter and handed it back to Yu Changsheng.

He knew Yu Changsheng was no fool. If he was willing to pay such a high price for this thing, he must have had his reasons.

’But none of that has anything to do with me. I’ve already done him the favor.’

’What’s so special about this thing? It actually made the Beast Hide react. Could there be some connection between them!?’

Yu Changsheng wondered to himself as he examined the Wen Longyu again, rubbing it in his palm. It felt cool to the touch, but other than that, there was nothing unusual about it.

The Beast Hide, which had reacted by growing slightly warm, had also calmed down.

’Oh well, I’ll find out eventually. Or... does Yang Chengxu know something?’

Shaking his head, he suppressed his thoughts and regained his composure, placing the Wen Longyu together with the Beast Hide.

After that little interlude, the auction’s atmosphere became thoroughly energized.

However, though Yu Changsheng was interested in the subsequent items, he only watched without participating in the bidding.

Before long, the auction concluded. To Yu Changsheng’s surprise, Yang Chengxu didn’t come looking for him, but Zhang Tianwen did.

"Senior Brother Zhang."

Seeing the beaming Zhang Tianwen, Yu Changsheng was startled for a moment before greeting him with a smile of his own.

"So it’s you, Changsheng, and you, Ming Han. I was wondering who in the Ten Thousand Beasts Tower would book an Earth Room for me."

Zhang Tianwen didn’t seem surprised and chuckled.

"It was my pleasure," Li Minghan said with a sheepish grin, scratching the back of his head.

"Alright, I’ll remember this favor. Do your best in the competition tomorrow." Zhang Tianwen nodded, putting an arm around Li Minghan’s shoulders in a familiar gesture.

After a brief pause, Zhang Tianwen turned to Yu Changsheng, his tone probing.

"Just now, the person bidding against you was Yang Chengxu, right, Changsheng?"

"It was." Yu Changsheng nodded.

"I see." Zhang Tianwen’s brows furrowed. "Does this mean you’ve completely offended Yang Chengxu? Will the fallout be significant?"

"It’s fine. It was just a normal auction. Besides, we might end up facing each other in a match anyway. Within the Wanxiang Sect’s territory, I doubt he can do anything even if he is unhappy."

Yu Changsheng shrugged, a dismissive curl on his lip.

’As for Yang Chengxu, so what if I offended him? He was targeting me anyway. And what about Li Minghan? First of all, Li Minghan had shown his goodwill by arranging the number one Earth Room for him, a room second only to the Celestial Rooms.’

’Plus, he’s the Young Tower Master of the Ten Thousand Beasts Tower. I doubt Yang Chengxu would drag Li Minghan into it, even if he is furious.’

’As for me, I couldn’t care less.’

"Hmm... that’s true. In a way, this Wen Longyu can be considered an item of our Wanxiang Sect. It’s good that you won it. It would have been rather inappropriate for it to fall into Yang Chengxu’s hands."

Zhang Tianwen considered this, then nodded and spoke after a casual glance at Li Minghan.

"Huh?" Yu Changsheng’s expression froze, and his face changed slightly. He scratched his head, looking a bit awkward as he laughed.

"Is that so? I had no idea about its history."

"Oh? You didn’t know?" Zhang Tianwen was stunned for a moment, looking at Yu Changsheng in surprise.

"You didn’t know, yet you spent so many Spirit Stones on it?" Taking a deep breath, Zhang Tianwen subconsciously touched the bridge of his nose, his expression puzzled.

"I just don’t like Yang Chengxu," Yu Changsheng said flatly after a moment’s thought.

"..." Zhang Tianwen didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. After a moment, he patted the back of Yu Changsheng’s hand and said approvingly, "Alright, you’ve got guts. But well done!"

"In any case, it’s meaningful for this to be in your hands," Zhang Tianwen said seriously, nodding after a moment of thought.

"Okay, so... what did you mean just now about its history, Senior Brother Zhang? Could you explain?"

Yu Changsheng voiced the question on his mind. He truly didn’t know the specifics of this Wen Longyu and wanted to learn more.

"Well..." Zhang Tianwen paused to organize his thoughts. "It’s like this," he said pensively. "I’ve only heard bits and pieces myself, so I don’t know if it’s true."

"I have a theory about the Wen Longyu. Perhaps it has an intricate connection to a Jade Pendant once worn by an ancestor of our Beast Taming Peak, Cao Jinxian."

"So, even though we don’t know what it’s used for, in terms of significance alone, its value is extraordinary."

Zhang Tianwen said this with conviction, but then a bitter smile appeared on his face. He hesitated before continuing, "However, given the current situation, you’d be better off keeping it for your collection. Try not to think about giving it to any of the sect elders, because..."

He paused, swallowing before continuing slowly, "After all, the old-timers in the sect have... mixed opinions about that ancestor."

Yu Changsheng’s eyes widened in understanding. After all, the things Cao Jinxian had done back then were truly hard to pass judgment on.

But Yu Changsheng really hadn’t known the Wen Longyu might have been his. He wasn’t the type to collect something purely for its historical significance.

It was just...

’It seems the Beast Hide Scroll also has some vague connection to Cao Jinxian. Is that why the two of them reacted to each other?’

A glint flashed in Yu Changsheng’s eyes as many thoughts raced through his mind. What Shen Xingchen had told him back at the Sword Cleansing Pool, in particular, resurfaced and echoed in his thoughts.

’Inheritance...’

At this thought, Yu Changsheng gave a slight smile, careful not to let his inner thoughts show. Instead, he nodded at Zhang Tianwen and said:

"So there’s that connection. I had no idea. Oh well. I find this thing pleasing to look at anyway, so that’s nice too."

"With this connection, it has some added collector’s value. Heh, not bad. I guess the money wasn’t wasted."

"Indeed. Keep it safe," Zhang Tianwen said with emotion, giving Yu Changsheng a meaningful look. "Perhaps it holds some other great treasure. Who’s to say?"

"Haha, it would be great if that were the case," Yu Changsheng laughed, his expression remaining nonchalant.

After staying with Yu Changsheng and Li Minghan for a little while longer, Zhang Tianwen didn’t dally, bidding them farewell with a cupped fist before leaving.

"Alright, you two have fun. Don’t forget the competition is tomorrow. As a key contender from our Beast Taming Peak, make sure you take it seriously."

Zhang Tianwen added as a final reminder before he left.
