Chapter 259: Chapter 237: Soaring Improvement (Part 2)

Thus, even though Yu Changsheng hadn’t intentionally used his Essence Points on upgrades, the proficiency of some of his Cultivation Techniques had still improved since he last checked.

’The Refining God Technique needs another 350,000 proficiency points to advance again. If I just save up a little more, it won’t take long at all.’

’But the further I progress, the more important balance becomes between my Cultivation, Physical Strength, and Divine Soul. Except in certain cases, if one aspect far surpasses the other two, it becomes a burden. It’s not necessarily a good thing without the corresponding support from the others.’

’For now, I don’t need to focus on upgrading the Refining God Technique.’

’Aside from the Refining God Technique, I can upgrade everything else.’

Yu Changsheng considered this, and without hesitation, he made up his mind.

[Consumed 50000 Essence Points! Ten Thousand Spirits Technique upgraded to Minor Achievement! Ten Thousand Spirits Technique: Minor Achievement (1/500000)]

[Consumed 50000 Essence Points! Beast Taming Technique upgraded to Minor Achievement! Beast Taming Technique: Minor Achievement (1/200000)]

[Consumed 40000 Essence Points! Three-coin Fire Refining Technique upgraded to Minor Achievement! Three-coin Fire Refining Technique: Minor Achievement (1/200000)]

[Consumed 20000 Essence Points! Fireball Skill upgraded to Great Success! Fireball Skill: Great Success (1/200000)]

[Consumed 30000 Essence Points! Shadow Flash upgraded to Minor Achievement! Shadow Flash: Minor Achievement (1/200000)]

[Consumed 50000 Essence Points! Beast Shadow upgraded to Minor Achievement! Beast Shadow: Minor Achievement (1/200000)]

Looking at the clean sweep of Cultivation Techniques now at Minor Achievement, Yu Changsheng narrowed his eyes, a smile gracing his lips.

A massive torrent of insights flooded Yu Changsheng’s mind. In an instant, it felt as though he had personally practiced each technique millions of times over. The sheer volume of information made even his powerful Divine Sense throb with a momentary ache. It took a long while before he could fully digest it all.

[Remaining Essence Points: 40000!]

Phew...

A moment later, Yu Changsheng’s eyes opened, a sharp glint flashing within. He slowly exhaled a turbid breath, feeling an unprecedented clarity of mind and spirit.

’Over 200,000 Essence Points, gone just like that. It’s never enough, is it?’

Yu Changsheng shook his head and gave a wry smile as he looked at his dwindling supply of Essence Points.

’But the boost I got in return is massive. Now that most of my skills are at Minor Achievement, my combat strength is worlds apart from what it was before.’

"If anyone else saw this, their jaws would probably hit the floor," Yu Changsheng muttered with a small smile.

The further one progressed in any Cultivation Technique, the more difficult it became to advance. Reaching the Minor Achievement Realm alone could often take decades—and that was just for a single technique.

Yet here was Yu Changsheng, with nearly all his techniques at the Minor Achievement level. If word of this ever got out, it would be utterly sensational, enough to cause a massive uproar.

The benefits of upgrading his techniques were immediately apparent. It wasn’t just a leap in his combat power; even his Cultivation was boosted. Nature’s spiritual energy stirred violently, surging madly into his body.

The foundation of his Fourth-Layer Spirit Platform, which had just been formed, solidified to nearly thirty percent in an instant. The aura of his Foundation Establishment Fourth Layer Realm also grew more profound and stable.

’Excellent. Now I’m much more confident about tomorrow’s competition.’

Yu Changsheng chuckled. Feeling the power coursing through his body, his confidence swelled.

As he was now, if he used all his techniques, he was confident he could even face—and kill—a cultivator at the Late-stage of Foundation Establishment!

’The remaining 40,000 Essence Points...’ Yu Changsheng mused for a moment. ’I’ll save them. Once I hit 100,000, I can upgrade the Thousand Mountains Technique again. Then my physical body will see another massive improvement.’

......

A night passed in cultivation.

「The next day at noon, on the Flat-top Square of Beast Taming Peak.」

"After two intense days of first-round competition, I’m sure all you disciples have a better sense of your own abilities."

"I won’t waste any more words. The sentiment remains the same: do your best and showcase the spirit of our respective disciples. And so, the second round of the two-sect Beast Taming competition now officially begins!"

"The first match..."

The format was the same as before. As the results of the drawing were announced, everyone watched with rapt attention.

"First match, Wanxiang Sect’s Yu Changsheng versus Spirit Dragon Sect’s Tang Chen!"

Down below, Yu Changsheng was momentarily surprised, but he didn’t dwell on it and made his way to the stage.

Yu Changsheng was a little surprised to be in the very first match.

Over with the Spirit Dragon Sect, Tang Chen gave a fist-and-palm salute to Yang Chengxu. After Yang Chengxu gave him a slight nod, Tang Chen slowly made his way to the stage.

At the judges’ table, a glint flashed in Mo Pengchen’s eyes as he looked at the results of the draw. He turned to the seemingly nonchalant Mu Yongxian and said faintly, his voice tinged with hidden meaning:

"Peak Master Mu... why was that necessary just now?"

Just a moment ago, during the draw, Mo Pengchen had sensed a subtle power influencing the results. The force was so faint that if his Divine Sense weren’t so sharp, he might not have detected it at all.

As far as he could tell, besides himself, the only one with the power to pull off such a thing was Mu Yongxian.

Since it was only the first match, Mo Pengchen couldn’t say much. He couldn’t just call him out publicly and put Mu Yongxian in an impossible position. Besides, the drawing was still technically within the rules, and it wasn’t as if they’d pitted Yu Changsheng against a top opponent like Yang Chengxu. So, Mo Pengchen chose to let it slide.

There was just one thing Mo Pengchen didn’t quite understand: why had Mu Yongxian done this?

"What is Peak Master Mo talking about? What happened just now? Wasn’t it a normal draw? According to the rules, in the last round, our Spirit Dragon Sect had four more disciples advance than your Wanxiang Sect."

"That means we’ll have two matches where our own Spirit Dragon Sect disciples have to fight each other. *Sigh*, what a shame. Your Wanxiang Sect really needs to step it up."

"Otherwise, this whole competition might just become the Spirit Dragon Sect’s solo performance. That wouldn’t be very interesting, would it?"

Mu Yongxian said lightly, a smile touching his lips. It was a smile that held a hint of contempt, along with some other, indecipherable meaning.

"Hmph. Don’t you worry your head about us, Peak Master Mu," Mo Pengchen snorted, turning away.

He watched Tang Chen slowly ascend the stage, his gaze scrutinizing, his mind filled with doubt.

Meanwhile, Yu Changsheng watched Tang Chen’s slow approach, and after a moment of surprise, his brow furrowed slightly.

’This face... it’s familiar... Tang Chen...’

As Yu Changsheng was lost in thought, Tang Chen stepped onto the stage. He stared at Yu Changsheng from a distance, the hatred in his eyes practically unconcealable.

His cultivation aura flared violently as he spoke, his words slightly slurred, "Spirit Dragon Sect... Tang Chen. I await your guidance!"

"Hmm?" Yu Changsheng looked up and frowned at Tang Chen. A flash of insight sparked in his mind. He finally realized why the face was so familiar.

"Are you acquainted with... Tang He... from Dongyang City?"

After a two-second pause, Yu Changsheng decided to ask.

Tang Chen’s expression stiffened. "Dongyang City is my home." A savage look crossed his face, his features darkening as he spoke in a hoarse voice.

"As for the Tang He you speak of... he was my father!"

The moment the words left his lips, Tang Chen snapped his head up, the ferocity and hatred in his eyes erupting without restraint. With a powerful stomp, he shot toward Yu Changsheng.

"Yu Changsheng! A blood debt must be paid in blood!"

"So he really is from the Tang Family. Looks like I didn’t clean up thoroughly last time," Yu Changsheng murmured.

Seeing his suspicion confirmed, Yu Changsheng wasn’t surprised. He let out a soft sigh.

"Sigh." Yu Changsheng shook his head with a hint of resignation. As he watched the charging Tang Chen, his expression hardened, and a flicker of cold indifference crossed his eyes.

Things had already come to this; more words would be pointless. Faced with such a deep-seated grudge, it was obvious there could be no peaceful resolution between them.

"Cyan Ridge Split Claw!"

And so, with bloodshot eyes, Tang Chen let out a low cry. He shaped his hand into a claw as a sharp, cyan light condensed into piercing points at his fingertips. His speed surged, his form blurring into a trail of afterimages. The cyan blades on his hand tore through the air, carrying a terrifying pressure as they stabbed viciously at Yu Changsheng’s head!

Yu Changsheng’s expression grew serious, not underestimating his opponent in the slightest. He took a step back, leaning forward, then pushed off his back leg. Unleashing the full, unreserved might of his Physical Strength, he stomped forward!

RUMBLE!
