Chapter 294: Chapter 255: The Colossal Beast
Before long, the top ten from the two sects’ competition—five from the Wanxiang Sect and five from the Spirit Dragon Sect—plus Meng Wuan, making a total of eleven people, all entered the Secret Realm.
HUMMM...
The vortex entrance to the Secret Realm flickered with myriad colors before suddenly beginning to swirl. Outside, Mo Pengchen and the others appeared calm, chatting with smiles on their faces.
Only Lu Ruikai watched the vortex entrance with a slight frown.
「Meanwhile, in the deepest, unknown reaches beneath the Cloud Mist Mountain Range.」
RUMBLE... RUMBLE...
A deafening rumble echoed as the heaven-reaching clouds and mist dispersed. The silhouette of a colossal beast emerged, emitting an overwhelming pressure as it slowly moved forward.
This colossal beast was as large as a mountain peak, vast and immense. From a distance, its body looked like a cross between a tortoise and a serpent!
It had a massive head, its giant eyes filled with an ancient weariness. Its four thick limbs were like mountain ranges, and the enormous tortoise shell on its back seemed capable of holding up the heavens. The shell was engraved with ancient, profound patterns, and coiled upon it was a formidable, dark-red giant serpent with prominent horns!
But at this moment, the giant serpent’s eyes were closed, its body withered. The tortoise’s gaze was dim, its lifeblood depleted. Everything about it radiated weakness, and a faint Death Qi emanated from it. Yet even so, its majestic aura was still like a vast ocean, stirring up world-shaking waves.
WHINE!
The beast’s cry stirred the winds and clouds. As its colossal body trembled, endless Laws manifested as enormous iron chains across the expanse of the sky. They streaked in from the infinite distance, carrying an ancient aura and shimmering with myriad colors. Layer by layer, they bound the beast, piercing directly into its flesh.
The colossal beast cried out in pain, its murky eyes filled with rage and sorrow. Thunderbolts flashed and cracks appeared in the void as the chains of Law bound it ever tighter. A white mist then shrouded the beast, and its figure slowly vanished within...
...
’So this is the Illusion Mist Beast Valley? It seems it’s not just a part of the Cloud Mist Mountain Range, but a separate, small world of its own.’
Yu Changsheng looked up, shaking his slightly dizzy head. He stared at the dark-red sky, lost in thought.
He looked around and found himself on a plain. The ground was covered in countless weeds, but they weren’t green; they were a strange, dark red. As far as his eyes could see, the earth was dark red.
In the distance, mountain ranges rose and fell, all of them either dark red or pitch-black. There was no sun, moon, or white clouds in the sky, only a shimmering, dark-red and dim-yellow firmament. Occasionally, a bird would fly by.
’It seems our teleportation locations are random.’
Yu Changsheng mused for a moment. After observing his surroundings and seeing no one else, he picked a direction and flew off.
The Illusion Mist Beast Valley, despite its name, was actually an independent, small world.
The greatest opportunity it held was a special species that existed only here: the Fog Beast.
Fog Beasts had form but no substance, making them an extremely special type of existence. They could imitate the appearance of other Spirit Beasts, even possessing nearly identical abilities. They didn’t exist in the outside world, having been born solely within this unique environment.
For Beast Masters, defeating a Fog Beast allowed them to condense its core Origin. For their Spirit Beasts, this Origin was incredibly nourishing. Not only could it improve their bloodline potential, but it could also temper their physical bodies and help them achieve a breakthrough in their Realm.
As these thoughts ran through his mind, Yu Changsheng flew onward, passing over the endless scenery until he reached the edge of the red plain. There, thin wisps of mist began to emerge from all directions, surging majestically forward.
’Mist? Then this must be the right way.’
Yu Changsheng’s spirits lifted, and without hesitation, he plunged into the mist.
According to the records, white mist was always present where Fog Beasts were found, often covering an area a hundred li wide. The mist seemed to be some kind of anchor for them. The larger the area it covered, the more Fog Beasts it contained, and the stronger they were.
The patch of white mist before him, Yu Changsheng’s rough scan determined, was just about a hundred li wide. It wasn’t considered enormous, so any Fog Beasts within should be manageable for him.
WOOOO...
Inside the white mist, his vision was severely limited. It was a vast expanse of white, so thick he couldn’t see his hand in front of his face. Strange sounds echoed from the depths, sometimes near, sometimes far, with no pattern. The mist churned as malicious gazes spied from within.
As Yu Changsheng charged forward, the white mist seemed to flow and grow even thicker, continuously converging on his position.
"Hm?"
Yu Changsheng was surprised. He sent out his Divine Sense and immediately felt a resistance; he lacked the usual, unobstructed view of his surroundings. His Divine Sense, comparable to that of a Golden Core cultivator, was being suppressed by about ten percent.
’How strange. A mere hundred-li-wide mist can suppress my Golden Core-level Divine Sense by ten percent. If it were any larger, the suppression would likely be even worse. Those whose Divine Sense hasn’t reached the Golden Core Realm probably can’t see anything at all.’
Yu Changsheng shook his head, muttering to himself as he sped through the mist. He continuously swept the area with his Divine Sense, and soon, he found something.
’Found you. So this is a Fog Beast?’
A slight smile appeared on Yu Changsheng’s face. He paused for a moment before suddenly shooting to his left at full speed. With a wave of his hand, his Golden-Winged Eagle appeared, following closely behind.
’A Bihuo Bird? No, it’s a Fog Beast.’
As he drew closer, the being in the mist became clearer within his Divine Sense. The Fog Beast had clearly noticed him as well. It turned and let out a soft cry as the mist churned around it. Its long, slender beak began to glow with a white light, transforming into a shocking arrow that shot through the mist, heading straight for Yu Changsheng!
’Dragon-Startling Peck? It’s got the form down pretty well. Almost like a real Bihuo Bird.’
This Fog Beast, in the form of a Bihuo Bird, was almost identical to a real one, right down to its aura. The only differences were that its body was completely white and it seemed to be composed of mist rather than flesh and blood.
