I Tame Beasts by Feeding

Chapter 317 - 266: Jade Hairpin

Chapter 317: Chapter 266: Jade Hairpin

"That won’t do," Yu Changsheng said, shaking his head. "Two dragon corpses. One for each of us."

The value of the corpses of such rare Spirit Beasts as the Celestial Cyan Sub-Dragon and the Celestial Shadow Dragon was naturally immeasurable. Moreover, Li Minghan himself had two Spirit Beasts with draconic lineage, making them exceptionally significant to him.

"Don’t," Li Minghan said, waving his hands frantically and smiling wryly. "Even if you gave them to me, I wouldn’t have the ability to process them. Besides, the Spirit Dragon Blood you gave me earlier was already priceless."

"I didn’t contribute much in this battle. You, on the other hand, did all the hard work. You should just take them. How about this: when the time comes, just give me a few more treasures from Yang Chengxu’s Storage Pouch. What do you think?"

"This..." Yu Changsheng hesitated. After a long moment, he nodded and said, "Alright, I won’t refuse anymore. I do have a great use for these two dragon corpses. Thank you, Brother Li."

"It’s nothing. Just call on me if you need anything in the future."

Li Minghan chuckled, took out two specially made Storage Pouches, placed one dragon corpse in each, and handed them to Yu Changsheng.

"If you find you need them after all, just let me know."

Yu Changsheng nodded and glanced at the two Storage Pouches. They were printed with the logo of the Ten Thousand Beasts Tower. With a single thought, a flash of light appeared, and both Storage Pouches containing the dragon corpses were placed into his backpack.

"Huh..."

Just as Yu Changsheng put the Storage Pouches into his backpack, a look of stunned surprise appeared on Li Minghan’s face. He was inwardly astonished.

’I really can’t sense any trace of them anymore...’

Li Minghan muttered to himself. The two Storage Pouches were specially made by the Ten Thousand Beasts Tower for holding Spirit Beasts. They had a unique tracking imprint from the Tower, which was impossible for outsiders to know about and difficult to detect.

But now, no matter what Secret Technique Li Minghan used, he couldn’t sense any trace of the Storage Pouches. It was as if a stone had dropped into the ocean, vanishing into another world without a single response.

This discovery also put Li Minghan’s mind at ease, reassuring him greatly.

Meng Wuan seemed to have noticed their thoughts as well. He turned his head, smiled faintly, and said lightly:

"Don’t worry. Since I was the one who killed Yang Chengxu, it has nothing to do with you. I’ll take responsibility for my actions. That is the proper conduct for a Sword Cultivator."

After speaking, Meng Wuan paid no mind to what Yu Changsheng and Li Minghan were thinking. He simply shook his head, walked away, and slowly caressed Si Jian Cliff, gently exhaling.

"This..."

Yu Changsheng and Li Minghan were at a loss for words, trading glances. Logically, it was true that Meng Wuan had personally slain Yang Chengxu with a single sword strike. However, when it came to the cause and ultimate outcome of the matter, Yu Changsheng was the main factor.

If one were to truly assign blame, the two of them couldn’t escape involvement.

Now, seeing Meng Wuan’s demeanor, it seemed he intended to bear all the responsibility himself. This outcome was naturally good for Yu Changsheng and Li Minghan, but...

After all, the Purple Rainbow Sect was large and influential. His master, Qing Zhu True Monarch, held an extraordinary status within the sect, which meant Meng Wuan was not to be underestimated either. Even though he had killed Yang Chengxu, as long as there was a suitable reason, the Spirit Dragon Sect wouldn’t dare to do anything openly, even if they harbored resentment.

However, the pressure Meng Wuan would have to endure was also considerable. It was just that his situation was much better than Yu Changsheng’s and Li Minghan’s, and he wouldn’t be left completely on the defensive.

Yu Changsheng and Li Minghan remained silent. After a moment, they slowly got to their feet. Li Minghan helped Yu Changsheng up, and the two of them also walked over to Si Jian Cliff. They looked on with curiosity at Meng Wuan, who was lost in thought as he quietly caressed the cliff’s outer wall.

"So people really can comprehend something from this thing."

Li Minghan pouted, muttering as he placed his hand on Si Jian Cliff. A chill spread from his palm, and the sound of humming swords rang in his ears. Sword Intent raged through his Sea of Consciousness, causing a faint ache, but beyond that, he discovered nothing else.

Curious, Li Minghan slowly closed his eyes, completely immersing his mind. A moment later, he opened his eyes with a trace of regret and shook his head helplessly.

"This is really tough for a Beast Master like me. Who would’ve thought a Beast Taming Secret Realm would have something like this? Still, I guess this trip wasn’t a waste."

Saying this, Li Minghan smiled helplessly and looked up at Meng Wuan. With a sincere expression, he cupped his fist and said, "But then again, it was all thanks to Fellow Daoist Meng’s exceptional talent that the splendor of that sword strike could be brought back into the world."

"Otherwise, in a few years, it would have become a permanent regret."

Hearing this, Meng Wuan grinned, shook his head with a light laugh, and looked at Yu Changsheng with deep, meaningful eyes. "Your Wanxiang Sect is not so simple either, filled with talented people. Yang Chengxu’s strength was worthy of his title as a prodigy, even across the entire Martial Continent."

"And now, you’ve forced him to the point of using his Secret Technique in a desperate, evenly-matched battle. I’m afraid that soon, Fellow Daoist Yu, your name will resound throughout the entire Martial Continent."

Meng Wuan deliberately emphasized this last part, directing it at Yu Changsheng with a gaze full of admiration, praise, and astonishment.

In fact, even he wouldn’t have been a match for Yang Chengxu at that moment. If it weren’t for the perfect timing, coupled with the buff from this special environment, he never would have had the chance to land a fatal blow.

"No, no," Yu Changsheng said, waving his hands hastily with a chuckle. "I prefer to keep a low profile—just hide away in the sect, slowly raise my beasts, and cultivate in peace. All that other stuff just disrupts my tranquility."

"Oh? Is that so?" Meng Wuan asked, looking at Yu Changsheng strangely. After a moment, he nodded slightly and smiled. "Is that really the case? I can’t tell. You don’t seem to be ’laying low’ at all, fighting for your life like that."

"Uh..." Yu Changsheng was at a loss for words again. He scratched his head, a look of helpless embarrassment on his face. He waved his hand and shrugged. "I had no choice. The guy was trying to kill me. I couldn’t just stand there and let him, could I?"

"True," Meng Wuan nodded noncommittally, a meaningful smile on his face. He then shook his head. "In that case, the matter of killing Yang Chengxu has nothing to do with you two."

Meng Wuan said this as he looked up slightly and smiled. "As it happens, I’d also like to build up my reputation a bit. It will be convenient for my future promotions within the Purple Rainbow Sect."

"Alright..." Yu Changsheng was taken aback. He gave Meng Wuan a look filled with a complex mix of gratitude.

Meng Wuan shook his head and said no more. After a soft exhale, he turned to look at Si Jian Cliff. He was silent for a long moment, then with a flash of light, his Long Sword was in his hand.

Sword Light flickered and Sword Qi raged as a cold gleam blossomed from the tip of the blade.

Yu Changsheng and Li Minghan watched Meng Wuan with curiosity. They saw his expression turn solemn, his body as still as a pine tree and as weighty as a mountain. His entire essence, spirit, and energy condensed into a single point. In that instant, the look in Meng Wuan’s eyes changed. His gaze flickered, a trace of gentleness mixing with his relief. As his fingers moved delicately, the sword tip spun in response, carving several lines of text into Si Jian Cliff, stroke by stroke:

"A moment of love, an eternity of sorrow. Though I cherished the spring, it has passed, hurried away by the weeping rain..."

"Meng Ying, I have avenged you."

Meng Wuan carved deliberately, one character at a time. With every stroke, the tenderness on his face grew. The emotion in his eyes shifted from initial relief to a flash of pain, then a complex mixture, until finally, only a soft sigh remained.

"In the end, even the most beautiful spring is no better than a fleeting dream."

Meng Wuan shook his head, murmured this one sentence, and fell silent, a wry smile on his face.

Yu Changsheng and Li Minghan were silent. Both had their suspicions, but they tacitly agreed not to ask.

"Yang Mengying was Yang Chengxu’s half-sister. She was also a disciple of my Purple Rainbow Sect. But later... she died at Yang Chengxu’s hands. If only I had..."

At this point, a look of deep regret appeared on Meng Wuan’s face. He clenched his fist tightly, only releasing it after a long moment. He let out a long breath, a flash of pain crossing his features.

"Now, I suppose my great vengeance has been achieved."

Meng Wuan said in a low voice, offering this simple explanation without going into further detail.

Understanding dawned on both of them. Yu Changsheng fell silent, thought for a moment, then walked forward and offered a word of comfort: "The curtain has fallen. All that remains is the spring light."
