"How does it feel to kill a man?" Tominus asked. He tilted his head slightly, staring intently at his son's face.

Aldes regulated his heavy breathing. He lowered his gaze to look at both of his palms. Fresh blood dripped down the blade of the sword in his right hand.

Yeah. I just took a human life. For the first time. I just killed.

How does it feel? Honestly. I do not feel anything. I am not emotionally attached to him in any way. I just feel like I am doing what I have to do. Exactly like carrying out a task.

Aldes raised his head and turned to look at Tominus. "I do not feel anything."

Tominus closed his eyes for a moment. "Is that so," he said softly. He opened his eyes and pointed downwards with his chin. "Look."

"With this, you have officially earned the trust of your people."

On the grounds of the city square.

Thousands of citizens, adventurers, and city guards tilted their heads up. Their eyes were fixed on the black-cloaked figure floating high in the sky.

"The prince who blew up the bathroom," muttered one heavily built adventurer.

"He is that prince who likes to get drunk, right?"

"What is wrong with him?"

"He looks like a completely different person," a woman whispered to her companion in the middle of the crowd. Their gazes radiated a sense of awe.

Suddenly, Aldes felt an incredibly agonizing throbbing pain in his chest.

He jerked backwards. His eyeballs turned red, enduring the pain. The skin temperature on both of his palms heated up intensely as if burning his own flesh. He dropped his sword into the empty air. Both of his hands gripped the chest of his cloak so tightly that his knuckles turned white.

The surface of the adventurer card inside his cloak pocket radiated a stinging heat piercing through the fabric.

What is this? Is this the effect of leveling up? Damn it, it hurts so much. Isn't the body supposed to become more energetic or refreshed when leveling up? Aldes thought, holding back a groan in his throat.

After a dozen seconds or so, the pain subsided. The muscles throughout Aldes's entire body instantly felt incredibly weak and drained of energy. Cold sweat poured down, soaking his temples and neck. He exhaled heavily.

"Oh? You leveled up," Tominus said calmly.

Tominus floated closer to Aldes. His large hand patted his son's shoulder gently. "Rest."

"I will handle the rest." Tominus stared straight into Aldes's eyes. "Trust me."

Tominus raised his hand and snapped his fingers.

Click.

Instantly, a space-bending black hole opened right in front of Aldes's body.

Aldes stared at Tominus's face for two seconds. He took a long breath, neutralizing his heartbeat. "Alright."

Aldes stepped forward into the black hole.

The next second, the scenery of the night sky disappeared. The cold wind stopped blowing. His boots stepped on a wooden floor covered with a thick carpet. He was now standing right in front of the wooden door of his room located in the palace corridor.

"What a day," Aldes said softly. His facial expression looked very pale and exhausted.

"Master Aldes?!"

A very familiar female voice sounded from the side of the wall. It was Finea. The maid stood frozen beside Aldes's room door with both her hands wringing each other in front of her chest.

"Finea?" Aldes asked with a hoarse voice. "What are you doing here."

Aldes's legs lost their strength. His body collapsed, falling forward.

Finea moved quickly forward to support Aldes's chest. Both of the woman's arms immediately wrapped around the prince's back, holding his entire body weight to prevent him from hitting the floor.

"I saw the strange night sky earlier. Then I remembered Master was traveling outside. So I waited for you," Finea said with a panicked yet relieved tone of voice.

Aldes chuckled softly over the maid's shoulder. "Were you worried about me? Don't tell me you have been waiting for me all this time?"

Don't tell me she stood waiting in front of the door for hours?

Finea lowered her gaze. "Uh. Well."

"Can I hug you?" Aldes asked softly with a weakly trembling voice. "I think I need it."

Finea held Aldes's body even tighter against her own. "You are already hugging me master."

Aldes closed both his eyes. He returned Finea's hug very gently. He leaned his head, burying his face into the crook of the woman's neck. The distinct scent of bath soap could be smelled very clearly, calming his messy thoughts.

"Thank you."

"So are you alright, Master?" Finea whispered. Her voice sounded very close to Aldes's ear.

"I am fine. I am just exhausted due to the effect of leveling up," Aldes answered with a hoarse voice.

Aldes regulated his breathing over the maid's shoulder. "By the way. Thank you for the recommendation. The food there was delicious."

Finea's right hand moved up. Her fingers stroked the back of Aldes's hair with slow and steady movements.

"Is that so," Finea said softly. "So you level up hmm."

Finea continued her strokes. "Congratulations master."

"Yes." Aldes nodded slowly. The friction of his chin touched the fabric collar of the maid's clothes. "You smell very good, Finea."

Finea chuckled softly. The vibration of her laugh resonated through Aldes's chest.

"Thank you for the compliment, Master," the woman said gently. She lowered her head slightly, looking at the side of Aldes's face, who was still leaning completely against her. "Are you hungry, Master? I will feed you and make a cup of hot chocolate."

Aldes closed both his eyes. He released the remaining tension in his jaw and neck muscles. A very faint smile formed at the corner of his lips.

"Yes. I think I need that," Aldes answered quietly.
