The night wind blew softly sweeping across the vast marble balcony. From this elevated height, the expanse of the royal city stretched out endlessly. Thousands of light points illuminated the dark night.
Inside the room connected to the balcony, marble pillars stood firmly. Crystal lamps emitted a dim golden light reflecting on the floor.
In the middle of the balcony, a round table covered in velvet cloth was placed right under the moonlight. On top of it, a chess board ornamented with gold and silver was arranged neatly. The chess pieces stood upright occupying their positions.
Standing silently at the edge of the balcony was the Queen.
Her purple hair was tied neatly to the back, completely exposing her slender neck and sharp jawline. Her pair of pink eyes reflected the sparkling city lights below. She wore a pitch black long gown with gold accents that highlighted her elegant curves.
She was Queen Cyhas Verenia. Also the mother of Aldes.
The woman stepped closer to the table. She picked up one of her pieces and slid it forward with precise fingertips. Her eyes shifted staring straight at the man across from her.
"You look tired, My Dear," the woman said.
Tominus fell silent. He thought about his next move while staring straight at the chess board formation. He then replied by lifting a knight piece and placing it in a defensive position. The sound of a small collision between the wood and the board base was heard softly.
"I am." Tominus let out a long breath releasing the tension in his chest. "I am."
The Queen cleared her throat softly. She leaned her body forward and rested her cheek on her own arm resting on the edge of the table. Her eyes scanned the positions of all the chess pieces. Without lifting her head, she moved her hand and moved her queen piece straight into the open area. She sacrificed her queen.
Tominus fell silent. The muscles around his eyes twitched slightly, surprised to see the suicidal move from the Queen.
Cyhas raised her hand and pointed toward the chess pieces in front of them. "This board is your current position."
"You made a mistake by rejecting the offers from two kingdoms. You did not know that the cunning prince utilized that situation to control you."
Cyhas turned her head to Tominus. "Then you sacrificed your status as a king as well as our son if they fail this mission."
Cyhas tilted her head. She leaned her body forward across the table, reached out her hand, and touched Tominus's jaw. The skin of her palm felt cold as it made contact with Tominus's facial skin.
"I know, my beloved husband. Someone with your level of intelligence would not do all this if he did not know what he was doing."
Cyhas stroked Tominus's cheek slowly using her thumb.
Tominus raised his right hand. He held Cyhas's hand resting on his face, feeling the woman's body temperature slowly warming up. "You rate me too highly."
Cyhas brought her face closer slowly erasing the distance between them. "Oh."
"I see you for who you are."
Cyhas closed her eyes and pressed her lips against Tominus's lips. The touch was slow but deep. The sound of their drawn breaths blended with the sound of the blowing night wind.
Cyhas pulled her face back slightly. She stared intently into Tominus's eyes from close range. "Whatever scenario you compose, my darling."
"Whether conquering a kingdom, killing an entire continent, or getting yourself killed."
"Take me."
Cyhas slipped her fingers into Tominus's collar. "Even if that path leads to death."
Tominus leaned his head forward and pressed his forehead against Cyhas's forehead. He raised his left hand touching the back of the Queen's head. "You have lost your sanity."
Cyhas did not respond to those words. She smiled faintly. Cyhas parted her lips and kissed Tominus again with wild and rough movements.
