Aldes opened his eyes. The morning sunlight pierced through the large glass window beside the bed. The bright light reflected on the dark wooden walls and floor inside the room. Outside the glass, the expanse of the blue sea looked very calm under a clear sky dotted with white clouds.

He raised his hand and rubbed his eyes slowly. Aldes lowered his gaze. He saw his naked body beneath the deep red and pitch-black silk blanket. His fingers touched the skin of his neck and chest, which were covered in red bite marks.

*She really ate me,* Aldes muttered in his mind.

Aldes turned to the side. Leafa was fast asleep, her body pressed against his chest. Half of the girl's naked body was covered by the blanket. Strands of her messy purple hair covered most of her face. The girl's body temperature felt warm against Aldes's skin.

Aldes raised his right hand. He gently stroked Leafa's cheek and tucked the purple hair behind her ear.

Leafa hummed softly. Her eyelids opened slowly, adjusting to the sunlight. "You are so romantic," Leafa said in a husky and gentle tone.

Aldes smiled faintly. His hand continued to stroke the side of the girl's face. "Good morning." Aldes paused. "I suppose."

Leafa moved her head forward and kissed Aldes's chest briefly. "Kiss me on the forehead." Leafa looked into Aldes's eyes. "If you are so romantic."

Aldes brought his face closer and kissed Leafa's forehead.

The girl smiled in satisfaction, then hid her face in the crook of Aldes's neck. Her breathing was steady, brushing against the skin of the man's neck.

"Thank you for yesterday," Aldes said quietly. His palm now moved to stroke Leafa's bare back. "You really helped me."

"Why did he summon you?" Leafa asked. Her voice sounded slightly muffled by Aldes's neck. "What did he say to you."

Aldes did not answer immediately. He remained silent for quite a while. His eyes stared straight at the glass window, observing the sea surface.

"I." Aldes closed his eyes for a moment. "Cannot say it. I am sorry."

Leafa cleared her throat softly. "I am surprised." The girl pulled her face away from Aldes's neck and looked straight into his eyes. "Did he threaten your life? Or."

Leafa reached out her hand and touched Aldes's jaw.

Aldes shook his head slowly. "No. No, my life is not threatened." He stared intensely into Leafa's eyes. "Quite the opposite."

Aldes shook his head again. "It is so secret that I am willing to die to protect it. And it is clearly not a betrayal against the kingdom."

Leafa lowered her hand. She placed her palm right over Aldes's left chest, feeling the man's heartbeat, which beat normally and calmly. Leafa exhaled slowly.

"I believe you, Darlin." Leafa moved her face forward and kissed Aldes's lips.

Aldes raised his hand, touching the strands of Leafa's hair. "You are acting like my wife now."

"Oh, really?" Leafa smiled broadly, revealing her rows of teeth. "Should I call you my beautiful husband?"

Aldes gently pinched Leafa's cheek. "I am not beautiful. I am handsome."

"Oh, sorry beautiful," Leafa said while winking playfully.

Aldes released his pinch and looked up at the wooden ceiling of the room. "And for the answer." Aldes fell silent for a moment. "I cannot give it now. I am sorry."

"It is okay, darling," Leafa said soothingly. "I understand."

Leafa moved her face forward and pressed her forehead tightly against Aldes's forehead. She looked directly into the man's eyes and whispered in a very gentle tone. "You knowing that I love you is more than enough for now."

Leafa once again kissed Aldes's lips. The girl then pulled her body away and sat up on the bed, letting the blanket slide down.

"Let's go get some breakfast," Leafa said while stretching both of her arms upward. "Before training."

Aldes stared at the girl's back then chuckled softly. "Yes, mommy."

"Hmm?"

Aldes raised both of his eyebrows.

"Nothing."
