The sound of the wooden carriage wheels clashed harshly against the rocky ground. The carriage convoy moved along a narrow dirt path by the edge of a calm lake. The view of the reddish-orange afternoon sky reflected clearly on the surface of the clear water. Yang Fei and Fany sat on the driver's seat of the foremost carriage. Yang Fei's hands gripped the reins incredibly tightly. His eyes kept moving, scanning the dark tree area around them.
"The lake," Fany muttered softly. Her red eyes stared straight ahead. "Just a little longer, Yang Fei. Just a little longer."
Yang Fei gave a stiff nod. He turned his head back to look at the wooden carriage where the red-glasses-wearing man was.
"Let's hope he really is just hitching a ride," Fany said. Her fingers tapped her knee repeatedly, channeling her nervousness.
Yang Fei looked back ahead. "Yeah, still—"
**Sst!**
**Twing!**
"Yang Fei!" Fany shouted loudly. She pulled the collar of Yang Fei's armor and threw the young man's body backward.
**Srak.**
**Srak.**
**Srak.**
Pillars of earth and sharp rocks suddenly jutted out from beneath the rocky road. The earth coiled around and forcefully pierced the legs of the carriage-pulling dragon monsters. The monsters shrieked in pain. Their massive bodies were held back, making the entire carriage shake violently.
Yang Fei's pupils shrank. He jumped down from the driver's seat, landing on the ground. He immediately drew his sword. Fany jumped down after him, standing beside him.
"Protect the carriages! Protect the carriages! Prepare yourselves!" Yang Fei shouted loudly, scanning the surroundings.
Dozens of young guards ran forward, swarming the main carriage. They raised their weapons high. The pulling dragon monsters thrashed and whimpered, wanting to leap, but their legs were locked tightly by the stone pillars.
"Is this magic?" Yang Fei muttered, staring at the sharp rocks on the dragons' legs.
Fany raised her hand, pointing straight ahead. "Yang Fei!"
At the end of the rocky road, a man walked closer casually. He wore a clean, long white robe that covered all his clothes. A black metallic mask covered his entire face, with a glowing purple dot in the center.
That man was Vival.
"Who are you! From which clan!" Yang Fei shouted, pointing his sword.
*This person is not the monster that slaughtered the border troops. Their clothes are different,* Yang Fei muttered in his heart. He swallowed hard. Cold sweat ran down his temples.
Vival didn't say anything. He kept walking slowly, observing the troops in front of him.
*They look very young. Is this a refugee convoy? Is Uni hiding in there? I must hold them back as much as possible,* Vival thought, calculating the probabilities.
**Groaarrr!**
A deafening dragon roar vibrated the air above the lake.
Vival stopped his steps. Yang Fei, Fany, and the entire Husa Clan force simultaneously looked up at the sky.
Yang Fei's legs gave out. He fell to his knees on the rocky ground. An immeasurable sigh of relief escaped his mouth as he saw the view up there.
Dozens of giant winged dragons flew across the orange clouds. Armored troops rode those monsters. In the very front row, Uni flew leading them, her dragon eyes glowing brightly.
"Chief!"
"That's Lady Uni!" several young guards shouted in joy.
However, the aerial convoy was moving extremely fast. They passed the carriage convoy's position below without slowing their flight speed at all.
The Husa Clan troops fell silent in confusion.
Fany narrowed her eyes, staring at the sky. "They don't see us," she muttered softly.
Below, Vival clenched his fists tightly.
*That's them. They are here. They just arrived. Thank goodness the plan didn't miss. Aldes, I misjudged you,* Vival thought with satisfaction.
Vival bent his knees and then dashed into the air, flying to chase Uni's flight path.
**Sst!**
Yang Fei noticed the movement. "Bastard, he's targeting the chief!" Yang Fei shouted loudly.
He turned to Fany and the guards behind him. "Those of you with magic, shoot him now!"
Fany aimed both her hands at Vival, who was darting through the air. Dozens of young guards did the same.
**Sst!**
**Twi!**
**Tiw!**
A barrage of fireballs, ice spears, and blood knives shot rapidly from below, aiming right at Vival's body in the air.
Vival looked down, staring at the barrage of attacks.
**Click.**
**Sst.**
Vival's body vanished instantly from his position, dodging the ice spear. He appeared three meters to the right.
**Click.**
**Sst.**
He teleported downward, avoiding the slash of a fire bullet. He shifted again to the left, then down, letting the blood knife pass over his head. His movements were disjointed yet incredibly precise, cutting through the deadly rain of magic.
"Very annoying," Vival muttered flatly.
He hovered silently in the air. Vival twisted his body, then extended his right hand toward the vast lake.
The lake water churned. Instantly, a massive volume of water lifted into the air, forming a giant water sphere above Vival's head. The surface of the water sphere rippled, protruding hundreds of solid water arrowheads aiming at the troops below.
Vival snapped his fingers.
**Click.**
Instantly, the giant water sphere froze into a block of ice. Thousands of water arrows transformed into deadly ice spears reflecting the afternoon sunlight.
Vival turned his head back to look at the Husa Clan troops. He pressed his thumb and middle finger together, preparing to unleash the ice barrage.
**Cl—**
Vival's finger movement stopped completely.
A hand gripped his right ankle incredibly hard from behind.
**Sst!**
**Dug!**
The person pulled Vival's leg with brutal force, then slammed the masked assassin's body toward the water. Vival's body plummeted rapidly, tearing through the air, then crashing onto the lake's surface with extreme force.
**Splash!**
The lake water exploded into the air. Vival's body sank to the bottom of the dark water, leaving behind white foam on the surface.
In the air, the red-glasses-wearing man hovered down slowly, landing on the ground. His brown hair was messy. His black shirt and white tie looked contrasting against the forest atmosphere. In his left hand, he held a golden axe.
"Fuck you with stupid little halloween costume," the man muttered in a low voice.
The man cracked his neck, looking at Yang Fei, Fany, and the Husa Clan troops who were frozen in place. He waved his hand, shooing them away.
"Leave."
"Thanks for the ride," the man said flatly.
Yang Fei and Fany looked at each other in confusion. Their mouths were slightly open. "But—"
"For fuck sake go!" the man shouted loudly, swinging his golden axe to point the way forward.
"Go! Just fucking go!"
"Go!"
